What a lot of great tips for the plants I enjoy. I live in zone 7, so definitely get snow in the winter. I’ve had SOME succes overwintering indoors. But what I enjoy doing and have had success with, is to trim off coleus cuttings as you suggested and then poke them directly into the soil wherever you want a new plant! Works a charm!

The best propagation tutorial video I've seen so far. All the 'tutorial' I've watched so far don't understand propagation, I was cringing at the way they were doing it and I was the one who was looking for tips! Lucky Coleus are obviously very forgiving easy propagators. Your video is needed in this space. Thank you, I'll try perlite for my Coleus it will save me money on the expanding plugs I use on my other plants. I've never had Coleus before. Also, I had mixed results with rooting hormone powder even sometimes thinking it killed the cutting that would normally have taken without the powder. I have a much higher percentage success rate with rooting liquid than powder but I don't think I'll use either on my Coleus as they seem to root easily anyway. Subbed

Congratulations on your first ornamentals videos! It was awesome! I made lots of notes. I was thinking for the past couple of weeks of selling my house and property, but decided today not to. I had kind of lost my enthusiasm about gardening and flowers. Now I've got some thinking and planning to do...and some seed and bulb to order. I really want to try to figure out how to do a cottage garden when I have such a flat expanse around the house and not a lot of shade except along the tree lines on either side. Thanks for getting this ol' gal charged up and excited again and feeling like I can do it. Your style and knowledge always amaze me and make me smile. Thanks for all you do and the time you put into sharing with us. I hope you know how much you, Emilie and Noah are appreciated. AND you are DEFINITELY not a "fish out of water".....you were a shark and killed it!!! ;)

I love all of your videos. I garden in the sub-tropics (Brisbane, Australia) and I find that your advice pretty well relates to how I garden. If you are looking for a plant for the dry shaded area of your garden or even under trees you cannot go past the Cliveas. They bloom in all shades of cream, yellow and orange and are absolutely spectacular in a tropical garden. I have even grown them under a mango tree and they absolutely thrived. They are also evergreen and quite slow growing. You can even grow them in pots where they actually like to be a bit over-crowded.

If you put cuttings into dry perlite, as you have done with the polkadot plant, it will die. Instead you could try moistened vermiculite or stick with water. Beautiful garden 👍

Do you still plant ur bulbs out in the fall if u have winter season??. Hmmm my flower bed needs severe help I want to trim back everything but not sure when to do this. I have roses that have went out of control and some green bush that blooms pink in the spring no clue it was here when i got it. Bjt not sure what to plant my garden is dry but the soil in fron yard stays moist not completely dry idm bc close to the house and one part doesnt get sun light. Ive not had luck growing colored items roses do great on the end. And 2 hollie bush's do to. But man weeds been night mare but my focus has been the garden then I went down hill had have kidney surgery coukdnt get out there and pull and tough for while got kinda crazy. So beautiful foliage thing had some of the green looking one once and did really well . Now that I weeded yesterday the dog was laying in the bed guess bc moist ground feels good to her and she smothered my ground cover my mom sprouted for me lil turd

One plant I have in my garden that is a really good showy plant is the dragon's breath. O.m.g has it survived the heat here in the desert and now that it's getting cooler it's changing cooler and flowering. I highly recommend that plant it's super beautiful in the summer and in the fall.

Love your show. My husband wants to plant Apple Trees in small 8 foot area. I would like to learn about various SNOW DROPLETS in various colors. We are in Zone 6 and get 5-6 feet snow. Spring starts in June. My tomatoes did great this year doing your methods. The entire neighborhood loves receiving tomatoes. What else grows near the panhandle of Idaho?

Brian, thanks so much for this video! I grew some beautiful red velvet and black dragon coleus plants from seed for the first time, and they have grown into gorgeous plants. However, they started getting leggy and also started putting out their first flower buds. I wasn't sure what to do to keep them bushy and thriving indoors. I also wasn't sure whether they would survive outside in my zone (9b). However, your explanations answered my questions; so I appreciate the video. I also grew some blue and silver drop eucalyptus plants from seed, and they have now grown into strong, beautiful seedlings. I want to transplant some of the seedlings outdoors, but also keep one or two of them as indoor plants. So I was wondering if you would do a video on growing and caring for eucalyptus plants, including when and where to transplant them into an outdoor garden, as well as how to keep them thriving indoors. I, for one, would be grateful for any expertise and advice you could offer!

Once I have cuttings planted in pots and indoors over winter, how do I keep them from growing too big? Do I pinch them back? Will the plants even get large or will they stay small because of the size of the pot? Thanks for this informative video!

I was wondering if you have a banana 🍌 tree and how can you tell if it is the one that gives bananas. I also have Elephant ear plants I just separated one and it had 6 pups so they are in its own pot/ bucket/ growing. They do great in zone 9b central valley of Northern California. Love plenty of water both plants.

Great video! Of all these plants I have only grown coleus. I do however let some bloom and go to seed so I can collect them. I've been growing the same coleus from seed for the last 3 years now. Never thought of bringing them indoors to over winter though. Also have you or can you do a video on cannas? I have grown a green and red variety here in my zone but have to dig them and bring indoors for winter. Occasionally if I'm unable to dig them before winter the red ones will sometimes come back up in the spring if the snow and freeze doesn't kill them. Not so much the case with the green variety.

Thank you for all the interesting science facts you add to your videos along with the gardening tips. I learned a lot today. I love coleus. Used the stems from both my polka dot and coleus plants last year that I cut to harvest seeds from. Fortunately they all rooted. Very interesting about checking for stems with closer leaf nodes will definitely will consider that this fall. Also like the perlite trick.
