I had the honor of speaking with Whitley Strieber , renowned author and New York Times bestseller. He began his writing career with two modern gothic horror novels, The Wolfen (1981) and The Hunger (1983), which was made into a feature film by the great filmmaker Tony Scott, now deceased.
He is perhaps best known for the third phase of his career, which began with Communion (1989), an autobiographical account of his experiences with strange extraterrestrial "visitors" who he claimed came to his cabin in the New York countryside. This New York Times non-fiction bestseller (number 1 for 15 weeks) was also the subject of a film starring Christopher Walken.
Whitley has written several other thrillers and two novels about environmental apocalypse, Nature's End and The Coming Global Superstorm. Superstorm served as the inspiration for the Fox film The Day After Tomorrow (2004), and Strieber later wrote the novelization of that film.

In this episode, we'll discuss one of Whitley's most profound books, The Key: A True Encounter.
On June 6, 1998, at half past two in the morning, Whitley Streiber was awakened by someone knocking on his hotel room door. A man came in, and everything he said changed his life.
This is the disturbing and ultimately enlightening account of what happened that night. Strieber never really knew who this strange and learned visitor was-a "Master of Wisdom"? A character from another world of consciousness? A being endowed with preternatural intelligence? He called him the Master of the Key. The only thing Strieber was certain of was that the man and the encounter were real.
The Master of the Key's primary concern is to save each of us from self-imprisonment. “Humanity is trapped,” the stranger tells Strieber. "I want to help you blow the trap. In a broad exchange between Strieber and the unknown-which takes the form of a classic dialogue between a student and a professor in search of inner understanding-the unknown presents a lesson in human potential, esoteric psychology and the destiny of man It explains why man has been caught in a cycle of repeated violence and self-destruction, as well as the slim but very real possibility of s. 'free from it.
In its scope and intimacy, The Key lives up to contemporary metaphysical traditions, such as A Course in Miracles, or even the dialogues of modern wisdom teachers, such as D.T. Suzuki and Carl Jung.
