This is great. Jacking up a car without a hydraulic floor jack is the bane of my existence.

I got lucky and the emergency scissor jack in my car operates from the same 3/4" hex as the lug nuts. The most important word to remember when using these jacks is "GREASE"! I greased the screw and all of the pivot points on my jack and it works flawlessly with my DeWalt DCF899 impact wrench lifting my Cadillac Deville in seconds but it is still only for emergency use. I carry a 2.5 ton compact floor jack in a blow molded case tucked into the trunk with a pair of 3 ton jack stands as my first solution.

@@docesamon a proper surface the floor jack will be safer, more stable. That being said, on gravel or dirt a floor jack may not travel like it's supposed to as it lifts the vehicle and the vehicle could slide off the jack. I also find on a unibody vehicle that have jack points they are large enough to scissor jack it up then slide in a jack stand and lower the vehicle onto it.

All i did was get a screw hook at the hardware store at least the size of the crank hook. Put the threaded part of the screw hook into a drill chuck, and the hook part into the jack hole just the same as the crank hook would be. If you want, you can grind three flats approximately 60 degrees apart on the screw eye threads for the three chuck jaws to grip. You dont really need to remove too much material, nor do the 60 degree angle positions need to be exaxt. Just judging by eye is enough. I made two of them. I keep one around wherever my drill bits and other accessories at home, and the other is kept with the jack. Tape it either to the jack or to the original jack crank. That way if one is missing theres always a spare to use in case of loss. A bonus is that theres no actual axial alignment of the jack shaft and the hook shaft. It fits loosely and will find its own center as it rotates. The hook and jack connection also becomes a crude universal joint and thus can run at any practical drill angle. Adding an S hook in between the screw eye and jack helps it to run smoother as it rotates.

My hand crank and a sort of z bend so I just cut it a couple inches from the hook and can do the same to raise and lower when not loaded. I slips in the drill chuck since it's round, so it would probably help to put 3 flats on it. Did a similar thing with an extra socket extension by cutting off the female end but it also slips. Probably be easier to go buy some power socket adapters.

An additional gearbox is needed here, I have an ordinary old hand drill. The screwdriver turns through the chuck of this drill, and instead of the handle, the head is inserted through a semicircle into the jack screw. I've been lifting my car like this for 10 years now when I change the wheels for the winter. One battery is enough for everything.

It REALLY comes in handy. About a year ago, I got a flat tire on my truck, and I had a cheep 20v Porter Cable impact wrench, and it spun the scissors jack right up, then I used the impact to take off the lugs. It made short work of it.
