The thing is whenever you compare the S3 to something, you're running a custom ROM over top of it. The average user who may stumble across this video and wants to chose will think thats how the S3 comes stock. Also, I think just in general itd be more fair to go Touchwiz vs Vanilla Android and see who wins out. Just both phones in their out of the box form. Just my opinion, great vid!
@trc21411 жыл бұрын
I love your videos dude! Also, it's pretty cool that you go to Stevens, my Dad just recently decided to go back to school and earned his MS from Stevens. Two things: 1. The Galaxy Nexus does not have expandable storage. 2. The Galaxy S3 really isn't an upgraded Nexus 4 when rooted and ROMed since it has a dual core processor in the US.

Galaxy Nexus also packs 32gb internal memory (at least on Sprint it does). Galaxy S3 can also get inductive charging using a Palm Touchstone and getting the charging parts on ebay for about $25. Galaxy Nexus can also be modded for this but its a little more work. Sprints GS3 doesnt have the LTE Sim slot either, and I cut that area out to reduce the bulge from the inductive charging piece. Nexus 4 is nice, but the lack of storage, IPS display, and non removable battery really suck, ill pass.
@Bjnbenner11 жыл бұрын
The nexus phones are usually used by google not to sell well, but to provide a design standard which they want other companies to follow and improve upon. As well, they were able to get amazing specifications into a nexus phone for a portion of what a competitor costs. For those not fully convinced by the battery life, 4.2.2 improves upon it two fold (I can usually squeeze out almost two days now without charging). As for storage, google offers lots of cloud options to save space!

For some time I was thinking as you say, but actually that isn't true. "Even though oleds are capable of true black (they do not use a backlight), the individual oled subpixels have better response times if they aren't fully discharged on blacks. So they have a faint glow that comes from the low power they are using to keep the pixel charged up and ready to go when a color change is needed." Anyway, all of the pixels are lit, including those which are meant to be black. GNex owner ;)

It shouldn't, depending on manufacturer and country. In 99 out of 100 cases before sending the phone to service guys, you are always able to un-root it. If you and people on forums can't manage to get the phone into recovery/download/fastboot and un-root it, so can't service guys. They will never know. And usually they don't care.

There is. It does not support all bands though. It works in Canada as far as I know. LG did put a LTE chip in it but its not FCC approved. They probably scrapped it to cut cost. Rooting your phone will let you access it and let you use LTE.

@trapcity11 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't call the Galaxy S3 with the SuperNexus rom an upgraded version of the Nexus 4. Just because you have the software running, doesn't mean it has the same feel like the Nexus 4, for example the hardware buttons. Not too mention the performance is 2x better then S3 because you get more Ram and a faster CPU + the software is fully optimized for the phone. Nexus 4 is single handidly the first android phone that doesn't have any form of lag / chokes.

I have the international SGS3, and I like stock android. But because of the exynos processor the international AOSP roms work significantly worse in terms of smoothness and stability than presumably on the US version. Therefore I am going to switch to the Nexus 4. Also the display on the SGS3 is indeed black as you say, but because of the pentile pixel layout it is not quite as sharp as their LCD counterparts.

really depends on what you want in your phone. Do you want LTE, do you use your phone constantly all day long and want a removable battery? If yes then the Samsung Galaxy S3 would be better.. however, if you want a pure android experience with updates right away as well as an unlocked phone the Nexus 4 would be better. Please note that the Nexus 4 is no longer in stock anywhere besides ebay/ 3-rd party retailers until January/February 2013

I have a SGSIII and a Google Nexus. I really don't see how stock android would make the SIII any better. There are a lot of small things that make everyday use better, like e.g. smart stay. And even more so now with the Premium Suite. I enjoy the Nexus only in the way that it is my experimental phone, but for everyday usage I would never want to give up Samsungs add ons.

Someone probably already said this, but the Galaxy Nexus doesn't have removable storage. The chip in the back of the phone above the battery is actually a sim card (one of Verizon's only phones to have one). The Verizon version of the Galaxy Nexus does come with 32gig of storage though, unlike the others that only come with 16gig. What I want to know is that 4.2 Jelly Bean an OTA update, or did you root and install it? As far as I know currently we are stuck on 4.1.1.
