Worked for me! Thanks! But I did not do everything in this video. I extracted the mainboard and removed all plastic parts and rubber parts. After that I protected the rest of the sensitive components with aluminium foil, such as the standby button and and the volume rocker, the sim card tray and the proximity/lux sensor. Than I used a heat gun (approx 180 °C for 90 seconds) to heat up the same chip like in this video. After cooling down I assembled everything and it started successfully for 2 minutes. After that the bootloop started again. So I repeated the process with approx 210 °C. But directly after the 90 seconds of heating up I pushed the chip gently towards the mainboard with a wooden stick. After cooling down and assembling, it works permanently for me. Never had a bootloop again. I recommend to assemble the phone completely except of the back cover with the NEXUS text on it. But I would assemble the cooling plate and the plastic backplate and also the screws, because they are pressing the heat spreader against the chips. So if it continoues to boot but because of heating issues, this wont help you. I did not use any fluid or (ESD-)toothbrush. Just heat. I had a heat gun without temperatur adjustment. I measured the temperature before with my weber grill temperatur indicator. So not that accurate, that is why I started a little bit lower. So if you tried it and you got only a temporarily fix, just try it again with pushing the chip gently downwards. Maybe this will work for you.

Worked for me. First we used a flux pen as this was the only flux we had. We applied the flux over all the "faulty" chip and all the components and chips around the "faulty" chip. We then heated the motherboard with a common household heatgun and had a thermometer (thermocouple) located just above the chip in question. Note we could not focus the heat to only the faulty chip as our heatgun had a big nossel. We approximately used the following heat profile: 100C for 1min, 150C for 1min, 210C for 50sec, 150C for 1min and finally 100C for 1min. The temperature was adjusted by simply moving the heatgun closer or further away. We did not clean the motherboard for residual flux as we forgot to do so - and btw there was also no flux residues to be seen. I will update this comment if our fix continue to work or not. ...Update: The fix worked for only one day :-(

If you cannot afford a hot air station, take the cover off the phone and use a hair dryer on full heat for about 1:30 seconds around the area with the most surface area (processor area) after it's nice and hot, leave the cover off and try turning on your phone, it should boot long enough to retrieve your personal information. I was just given one of these phones and spent hours banging my head, I thought it was a software problem, here it was a hardware problem all along. (pretty common with processors that don't have adequate cooling) Anyway, if you want a decent phone, buy a Motorola, they are built like tanks.

Great video, very informative. I have a bit of a different problem... I can't get my phone to turn on or even take a charge unless one special battery back which is super old and I assume doesn't have some sort of overfeed protection... It happened after a beta update to 8.0...before that the phone was getting very hot and extremely sluggish. After watching your video I decided that it's possible that there was a defective solder joint on the main board where the USB type-c port may have been damaged... I inspected everything and didn't see any visible cues... Do you have any other recommendations?

They sent it back (after getting $19.95 for a diagnostic fee), but when I opened it, I realized they left out the L-shaped EMF metal shield. I am going to call them (preparing to be frustrated), but in the meantime, is it okay to use it without that shield?

@RyanOlsen7 жыл бұрын
Julian Teoh I am sorry you don't have the warranty and support that we have here. There is no way for me to know how this works in other countries. I titled my video the way I did on purpose, as I believe it is truly the only viable option for: fixing the bootloop in a way that does not void the warranty, fixing the problem for free, and fixing the problem in a way which provides a 90 day warranty on the work; all through the manufacturer of the device. I want those who do have the warranty option (but do not know that) to see this option first; before they destroy their phones or have a false sense of security that their phone is fixed, when the problem will just return again. If you want your phone to work, just know that the problem is a bad motherboard. That is what LG replaced in my phone. I hope you can find a reliable repair shop that can replace that part for a reasonable price. I don't know of any other real solution for you.

What happens when the SoC gets in direct contact with the heat ?? It had worked the first time then the error came again. I did it again and the device worked again. The device has no root and the bootloader is too. I installed Substratum the next morning and Andromeda from XDA ran the script on the pc. Later, the device did not start anymore and stayed in fastboot mode. Now it does not start anymore. So I ask if it can be that it does not start because the Snapdragon was too hot. because otherwise everything looks good. ??????

Reeeeealy great video, man. Thank you. I will try your method this week. Can you please tell me what was that on the syringe? Can I use a "regular" Heatgun?
@ICDTTechnologies7 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for the compliment. The syringe is Chip Quick No-clean Flux. It helps transfer heat to the chip and prevents the solder joints around the chip from oxidizing. I also do not recommend a heat gun, because it blasts a heat at a wide area. Also, the air speed on a heat gun is too fast, even on low setting. It may be too fast and you risk blowing components out of place or off the board. Please let me know how it turns out.
@dedadoblack7 жыл бұрын
I'm in Brazil...the "Chip Quick No-clean Flux" I never heard from and I think it will be hard to find. The machine you used I have never seen it too. =/ Just got cold feet after this informations. hehehehe....Should I isolate the others components from the heat gun blast with Tin Foil?
@ICDTTechnologies7 жыл бұрын
The flux can be found on Amazon. smile.amazon.com/ChipQuik-SMD-291-Clean-Syringe-Nozzle/dp/B00CM2A97S/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1500874596&sr=8-5&keywords=no+clean+flux The machine is called a hot air rework station. You can use a budget hot air station, but if you only have a heat gun, use a laser thermometer. And if you want to isolate the chip, I would use kapton tape. It has a very high resistance to heat.

hey.... can we use hair dryer instead of that heating gun...? please reply what was that when you sprayed after the chipquick gel...? was that water...? is there any other alternative for that chipquick gel
@ICDTTechnologies7 жыл бұрын
Thank you for posting. Most hair dryers have a max temp of around 150° - 200° F. They do not get hot enough to reflow the solder. Also, the spray was not water. It was 91% isopropyl alcohol. There are many alternative manufacturers for the flux (I use ChipQuik). I recommend using only the "no-clean" flux. I also recommend using a hot air rework station, so that you can accurately control the temperature and airspeed. If you only have a heat gun, you should use a laser thermometer, to monitor the temperature of the board, and set the heat gun to the lowest airspeed.

What you're heating is the "Samsung K3QF3F30BM-QGCF 2 GB LPDDR3 RAM", not the eMMC
@ICDTTechnologies7 жыл бұрын
You are right. However the RAM is an eMMC, which means that it has a contoller and flash memory in the same chip. I have found that the problem is inside the chip and not the solder. I will be rediting and reposting a new video on this, to include information on warranty replacement and refunding through LG and that this is a temp repair for data recovery.
@tonytran21457 жыл бұрын
if it isnt the solder, do you still need flux when you use this heating method? or would just hitting the chip with heat do the same thing no matter what? I was thinking about picking up a cheap rework station (to have better control of temp and air flow rate) and some flux, but if its overkill for no reason, i have a standard heat gun that i can use. what do you think?
@nicolaschiodo57167 жыл бұрын
Tony Tran I did it with a heat gun which has an air reductor so that the air comes out in a small area, the speed was too high though so I had to do it carefully. I didn't use flux. After doing it I could use the phone for at least one week, then it died again, I tried heating it again but it didn't worked.
@tonytran21457 жыл бұрын
thanks for the reply Nicolas. 2 more questions, does your heat gun have speed settings? mine has a high and low, wondering if it'll still be too strong. next, how long did you apply heat for?
@nicolaschiodo57167 жыл бұрын
Yes, I did it with low speed, it's maybe too much but I did it in an intermittent way, I can also regulate the temp on my heatgun, I don't remember how much time but remember that is a temporary fix, heat it not too much nor too little so you can recover your photos, if you live in USA you should call LG for the replacement/refunding.

If you are going to do this I recommend also flashing an OmniROM-based ROM for the most seamless installation of updates. I have one that is bootlooped so I'm going to try this
@parthopodder31437 жыл бұрын
hey, thanks first of all. I followed your steps as same as you have showed. though it's still on bootloop. but the bootloader only works. what should I do?
@ICDTTechnologies7 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your question. I am sorry that you are having trouble with your phone. I am unable to diagnose further without looking at the phone. it could be a completely faulty logic board, critical memory space, corrupted ROM, or bad battery. I would recommend inspecting the physical components, or trying the heat again. I wish you the best of luck.

I am not sure I understand. If you are asking what I am putting on the chip before heating, that is ChipQuick No-clean Flux. If you are asking what the chip is, it is a dual layer chip with the eMMC RAM chip that is mounted on top of the SoC chip.

i tried as in the video but nothing it started and after few minutes went down so i used another temperature cos 380 °F was not enough so i used for 1 minute 450 F with a peak of 500°F with a square tip for solder hot air. Now is working it s almost passed a day, it seems everything s ok. Anyway i putted a large piece of tape biadhesive in the rear of the chip, so it's more pressed.

U ve to remake the process in my case everytime.
@vladislavmatveev46556 жыл бұрын
Marco Esposito what I did is flash a costum kernel and boot image via fastboot, this way the phone only uses the little cluster cores and bypasses the big cluster (the effected chips). Google Nexus 5x BLOD fix
@vladislavmatveev46556 жыл бұрын
Marco Esposito I think it would work if one would completely resolder the chip and then add a copper plate as heat sink and for pressure

This is only a temporary repair to collect data. You can repeat this to reactivate and download contacts, pictures, text messages, etc. I am sorry that this is happening to your phone, and I understand it is even worse when it is a special gift from someone special to you. The back cover is difficult. You can just use your hand very gently or us a plastic safe open tool to work the clasps loose on the sides. I start opening from the charging port. I hope this helps.
@ViktorFerenczi6 жыл бұрын
Use the corner of an expired plastic (credit) card if you don't have a plastic tool for this. Definitely start from the charging port or the SIM card slot with the tray removed.

@ICDTTechnologies7 жыл бұрын
Thank you for posting. I am sorry that you are having trouble. I would recommend trying again. Maybe increase temp to 390°F - 400°F but no higher than 400°F. While you are heating the chip in a circular pattern, closely observe the small components around the chip for the solder reflowing (the solder will become shiney). At that point remove the heat and allow it to cool.
@jerinjohn98677657247 жыл бұрын
ICDT Technologies thank you for your time...i tried but after a while it goes into bootloop again..i tried heating 380-400 but it works for a day or so

Do it once to get it booting temporarily and enable "OEM unlocking" in developer settings (and backup any data), then apply the better software solution from Xda to work around the bad chip: forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-5x/general/untested-nexus-5x-bootloop-death-fix-t3641199

J Peterman this actually fixed my device. Thanks a lot! But the only problem is that it cannot multi task like before and the phone is a bit slow when opening the camera
@marcusc1736 жыл бұрын
The only way to actually is the flash a custom rom onto the phone but it will void the warranty and you will lose all your stuff so if you still have warranty and this happens then i recommend just getting a new phone

Mera phone bootloop nhi ho Raha
@samhausmann14795 жыл бұрын
A) why is it factory resetted when it suddenly went into bootloop - one would expect it to be set up already.... B) why fixing the emmc when everyone reported it to be a issue with the perf cluster of the 808? Smells fishy, sorry but this insults my mind...
@ICDTTechnologies5 жыл бұрын
This procedure takes advantage of thermal expansion and allows the phone to work temporarily to recover data. You are correct that the eMMC is the problem and not the RAM chip. Thank you very much for you input. I am always looking to learn and expand my knowledge and abilities
@samhausmann14795 жыл бұрын
@@ICDTTechnologies not trying to troll you here but I didn't say anything about the RAM nor the EMMC, it's commonly known that the performance cluster of snapdragon 808 (or the soldering of the chip) is the problem, that's why the software-sided solution of a modded boot image works, it disables the 2 performance cores and leaves only the 4 other cores of the CPU enabled - that's why I don't understand your approach to the problem and I'm still wondering why the device is resetted if it unexpectedly felt into bootloop, the bootlooping doesn't factory reset the system, this does not make sense at all....
@ICDTTechnologies5 жыл бұрын
@@samhausmann1479 This devise did not factory reset. This belonged to a French doctor who reported that all of his data was recovered successfully by this procedure and that the device functioned for 3 weeks after the recovery. We also offer the 4 core kernel installation. I know you are not trolling and I grately appreciate your comments.
@samhausmann14795 жыл бұрын
@@ICDTTechnologies thanks for understanding that I'm honestly interested! But if you check the end of the video you posted it clearly shows a reseted device, this welcome screen only appears on very first start up, also this SIM screen and the encryption password is also missing - this is by no means a "used" device, in fact it shows all signs of being factory resetted, hence my doubts, as this is "the proof" that the device was successfully repaired, it however shows the absolute opposite, I'm also wondering how you diagnose the issue, how you determine if EMMC, RAM, or CPU (perf cluster)? Not meant to be disrespectful but this whole video raises more questions than it actually answers, I have serious doubts on it being legit, like it being a kind of PR stunt!
