This song was such a prelude to his new album concept… DRIFTING… if you dig deeper into the lyrics of this song this starts to seem like it has an underlying global/nautical theme, “watching the world go round" ,and "Unknown Sounds" is a nautical reference… "sounds" is another word for sea ports where the water is calm (like Puget Sound, Seattle). "Drifting in the same boat as you" NF is docking in unknown places he is not familiar with. That one strange sharp sound in this song that repeats and echos is like the "ping" that submarines use for sonar. The word "sound" is also used to describe the process of determining the depth of water in a tank or under a ship-so NF doesn't know how deep the waters he is drifting into, "Sinking dreaming, screaming for some truth" and of course that last intense part: "Give me the faith to rise" (to the surface) "immersed in my belligerence amplified"… such great bars!
