Wow, thanks for this post, have been hoping to find this NBC telecast for almost 43 years! I was at this game, and they ran the field differently than normal, sort of down the third-base line instead of across the outfield as usual, and minus the familiar auxiliary sideline seats in the old Coliseum football configuration. The apparent reason was the A's were still playing, as they would be in the expanded playoffs that began the next week in the "strike" year, and they wouldn't put those auxiliary seats in the outfield until MLB was complete. They did have a football press box more along the first-base side at the Coliseum, but they used a makeshift press box down the third-base line for this game, hence Jones and Dawson looking like they were sitting in the grandstand (which they effectively were). It was a tedious game to say the least, Denver mostly keeping the ball on the ground and letting the defense mostly smother Oakland as it was teeing off on Plunkett and then Marc Wilson later in the game. Utah State's Rick Parros (who inherited #24 from Otis Armstrong) had one of his better games running the ball for the Broncos, with 73 YR, including that 20-yard TD when he danced thru the Raiders defense, effectively putting the game out of reach at 17-0 in the 3rd Q. Yes, this was during the Raiders' numbing streak of three straight shutout losses; Oakland had also lost at Denver on opening day, 9-7, in the Dan Reeves HC debut for the Broncos. As this game progressed, a mysterious spate of fumbles by Oakland's Ira Matthews confirmed the Raiders' fate. The 17-0 result was wholly appropriate...

Added note Oakland Coliseum...after the Raiders returned in 1995, and the construction of "Mount Davis" in the outfield, there was still room for a new set of auxiliary seats beneath Mount Davis, though not the same full sideline grandstand of the old, pre-renovation configuration. Those later auxiliary seats have not been needed since the Raiders left after 2019, but can still be found in a corner of the Coliseum parking lot and close to the BART tracks, rusting away, a last and sad reminder of when they played football at the Coliseum ...

I have noticed that in Weeks 1, 2 & 5 (whole games available on KZbin) that Ted Hendricks was constantly getting in the opponents backfield but missing the tackle/sack.

Final note...I don't think there is anything related to the Raiders, save the memories and those rusting auxiliary seats in the parking lot, visible today at the Coliseum. There is still a nice section behind home plate that acknowledges the A's and their past glories in Oakland, but nothing that I found regarding the Raiders in my last visit, which was in in May. Soon the A's will be gone and I assume the Coliseum, too, so all we'll have is memories from the Oakland days. The Raiders have tried as best they can to move their history with them to Las Vegas, and there are some tasteful displays at Allegiant Stadium, but nothing that I can find at the Oakland Coliseum. Nothing, I think, at the LA Coliseum, either, certainly not in the newly renovated portions that honor USC (which now manages the Coliseum). That's a lot of history at two stadiums that have completely forgotten about the Raider memories and championships in those Coliseums...

I think he was best with Len Dawson. Cefalo and Todd Christensen are good but Jones/Dawson is broadcast bliss.

Charlie Jones was definitely one of the best football announcers of all time. Dick enberg, Merlin Olsen are one of the best as well but Pat summerall and John Madden were the best in my opinion of all-time announcers
