The Fitzpatrick stuff feels like Miami propaganda. Why are we taking Ryan Fitzpatrick's word on it, cause he met the guys one time? He only played in Miami one year but he's talking about the entire 3 years? And everything you hear from former players and coaches (Vic Fangio, DeShon Elliott etc.) is how soft the team is. Also conveniently left out is the part of the story where the owner was trying to actively pay $100k for the team to lose games. When you know the owner and most likely other individuals within the building are working against the success of the team that's bound to make anybody act a little crazy. Also maybe Tua is a little soft but he's getting paid $50 mil now and no one wants to admit it. He's the one out here airing dirty laundry years after probably trying to save face. But everyone seems content to just say ohh yeah Flores was a bad guy. Just all seems a little suspect.

I think the problem with the idea of giving Ballard slack for Richardson if that was his QB3 is that he still used a top 5 pick on a historically inaccurate below average college QB with 1 season of starting experience bc he has a crazy vertical. That was pretty obviously a horrible pick on face value at the time

That giants take is pretty wild, sound reasoning is only sound of your analysis of the players ability is correct. Their analysis of Daniel jones was WAY off, and the importance of saquan to that offense was also WAY off. So the reasoning to do the things they did 2 years ago cant be sound if their talent analysis was off.

i agree with you on the draft. if im looking at their picks: Kayvon thibodeaux - huge fail evan neal - fail wandale robinson - ok joshua ezeudu - fail cordale flott - fail bellinger & belton - fail mcfadden - ok davidson - fail deonte banks - fail john michael schmitz - ok jaylin hyatt - fail they had a pretty good draft this year but the stars on that team were put by the previous administration. what i dont agree with is, saquan wouldnt have had as many yards behind the giants o-line, and i dont know that any1 couldve predicted that running backs would become more important this year. the only team that averaged positive epa running the ball in previous years had been the 49ers, this year 6 teams averaged positive epa. its still not as effective as passing and saquons value is still much lower than that of the top qbs. i dont think anyone using an analytic approach wouldve said pay saquon

I just don't know how many GMs are available out there that are gonna draft better than Ballard at the end of the day. The old vet QBs have been his real mistake. Other than that he's not made more mistakes than every other team does. I think you give him this year, put more stuff around AR and give AR himself more time to mature. If it still looks the same next year then let's start over with a new GM.

Crazy thing with aBaalke taking Walker over Hutchinson is that Walker would have probably still been available if they traded back 5 or 6 picks, maybe even 10-15. The only reason Walker was even in the #1 overall discussion was bc the Jags were picking there. Historically bad reach

The Bengals firing Lou anarumo could actually improve their defense. and even tho ppl may argue whether it was the gm who did not provide any good players or not(they have spent a lot of draft picks on their defense and signed free agents as well like geno stone) their defense on paper is still better than a bottom 3 level, which they have been for most of the season. on the other hand, the colts defense has actually been good or average(ranked 10th in success rate) while having arguably the worst secondary(pretty much all bums except the nickelback), it has actually been the offense thats laid an egg while throwing almost the most interceptions(3rd to jameis winston and will levis, not exactly great competition) granted anthony richardson has been a rollercoaster but has generally been unable to pass, and that oline got banged up, its still pretty bad. feels to me like gus edwards was just a scapegoat like they needed someone to go after that defensive disaster that took them out of the playoff race but i dont think it was the right person. until richardson improves i dont see them being successful dc or not

if GMs believe they need to amass the most talent it drives star salaries up. if GMs require players sacrifice more and do it with culture, salaries more stable and injuries easier to replace with depth. File under risk management.

you guys keep talking about qb determining everything as if there arent tiers. there are obv great qbs like burrow and jackson but there are also just above average qbs who once are signed to big contracts can get your team in a hole because your salary cap takes a hit and they arent good enough to win you a sb with what they have. in terms of above average-average qbs there are a bunch and they arent that hard to find. its just winning a sb that is a challenge with them. if we look at qb wins added, its not like a qb is gonna get you 8-9 wins by himself like theres ways to make a run with just an above avg qb

The absolute disrespect for Bill B and Mike T. Ya’ll just hate defensive coaches. Bill B wasn’t just a product of his QB decision numerous numerous times he was a defensive genius who put players into positions to excel. And the same can be said of Mike T in his management of personalities and making that 4-3 defense work year after year and usually be a top end defense. These types of things cannot be easily replaced and is a key part of why they are so successful. Not to mention Mike T never having a true rebuilding season they rebuild slowly then are dominant for a while then it lulls while they still win until they become dominant again. It’s how the Steelers are I mean in the history of the franchise they have only chosen top 3 pick 7 or 8 times. That’s ludicrous

i agree, thats why i didnt understand that no one wanted to hire him bill b as hc(not gm). even in the last couple years where everything unraveled, he still had a top 10 defense over those years working with players that he drafted and developed(or traded but i mean jabrill peppers was considered a failure in cleveland). he didnt sign any big free agents, where did josh uche, kyle dugger, peppers, j.jones, jc jackson, adrian philips come from? the year that they made the playoffs, a top 3-4 defense carried them. defensive coordinators have come and gone in NE(some good like flores where we broke records, some terrible like matt patricia) but the defense has always remained consistently at least above average. and btw, from 2018 to 2023, the pats have THE LOWEST EPA PER PLAY ALLOWED

They've said multiple times that bill was still an elite defensive mind it's just team management (and assistant coach hiring I'd say (Matt Patricia oc 🤮)) which was his downfall. Idk what Steve was on about Tomlin but pretty sure Sam has given him high praise throughout the year. Maybe what Steve was trying to say is Tomlin needs to hit on a top 8 qb whereas a McVay or elite offensive mind can do it with a top 14 qb or something ¯⁠\⁠_⁠(⁠ツ⁠)⁠_⁠/⁠¯

Disagree with Steve... Pierce and Mayo were very "conventional hires" in the age of the Rooney rule. Owners who know their rosters are multiple years away from being good enough to win, continually exploit the rule, for additional compensatory picks, the appearance of being progressive and the "stealth" tank". They know they're going to lose under the Defensive minded coach and Rookie/Journeyman QB. They're just stealing picks until they think they're ready.

I don't think a 3rd round pick is worth potentially setting your rebuild back one to multiple years. If life was a videogame it would make sense because they'd know the next hire is a success. Plus they gotta be willing to treat the coach like an object and not a person, which is possible for anyone. I think it is far more likely the HC played politics with Kraft, scapegoated BB, and promised change. The results indicated that the team itself is not particularly good and the quick turnaround isn't happening.

Love Sam but there's some revisionist history with Trayvon Walker vs Aidan Hutchinson. I remember very clearly the fellas at PFF going through the pros and cons. No less than Eric Eager himself laid out that Edge was as close to a solved position as there was in the league-- with rare exceptions (Danielle Hunter in the 3rd) the traits that an Edge could win with were known to all, and the prospects that had them were drafted early while the prospects that didn't deservedly fell. And there wasn't a single comp for a star at Edge who had arms as short as Hutchinson's. That's what we were told and it made a lot of sense. After all, we still believe in arm length at other positions. Baalke made the wrong choice, that's obvious in hindsight. It's not so clear that his process was bad with this one decision at first overall.

on their big board hutchinson was #1 and he was touted as the best edge since chase young while travon walker was 12 and was "still figuring out how to rush the passer". also i would not say walker has been good despite having 10 sacks as hes bad in run defense, is playing besides josh hines allen(who is way better than him) and never gets chipped because of his playing mate
