To put these into perspective, back when the goalposts were on the goal line, when Tom Dempsey kicked his 63 yard FG, he kicked it from his own 37 yard line meaning had the goal posts never been moved back, Tucker would have kicked that from his own 34 yard line. Unless they have a monster leg, coached don't even try FG's when they're on the opponents 35 yard line let alone your own.
@SonnyBubba2 жыл бұрын
Tom Dempsey’s kick was probably why the NFL moved the goal posts back, and also change the rule that dealt with missed field goals. Before 1974, a missed field goal was treated the same as a punt (it had to be returned by the opposing team, not by the referees). Canada still has that rule, in that a missed field goal has to be returned. If it isn’t, a missed field goal or a punt that results in a touchback scores one point for the kicking team.
@Rockhound61652 жыл бұрын
@@SonnyBubba Dempsey's kick had nothing to do with moving the goalposts back. It was a combination of a safety issue and to encourage more scoring. However the goalposts are still on the goal line in the CFL(I'm actually watching the CFL right now). One thing I liked with the Arena league was the netting. A ball of the netting was a live ball.
