Elier Melendez He wasn't a running QB but he was mobile inside the pocket and behind the line of scrimmage. I looked up his career rushes one time, and initially thought there's no way he's as good as ppl say having only rushed a handful of times for bout 20yds (don't quote me) his whole career. However after watching a bunch of his games, it was clear he didn't NEED to run the ball. I think if he wanted to, he could've done SLIGHTLY better running the ball, he was slow but a big guy. Maybe 3-5 yds here and there. Plus he had a bum knee, I'm not sure at what point it was injured, but looks pretty early in his career and I don't think it was ever the same. Also I think in that era, there was a idea of what a QB should be, and I don't mean a white guy that stands in the pocket, I mean a QB who stands in the pocket. It's clear the way the game was coached and played for the most part ppl thought, a QB should pass the ball and if we need a run, then hand it off to someone who specializes in running the ball and gets paid to do so. Plus if a QB runs the ball in 80s-90s he's gettin smashed , just not really a good idea unless your an exceptional runner, and even then, you're asking for it.
