Rich as a Steelers fan, what’s gonna be frustrating af is going 5-1 in this division and missing the playoffs. If we have 10 wins and are 5-1 in the division and don’t get in, I’ll be frustrated off that alone. And at the same time, it’ll be completely our fault because of the NE & AZ losses. This week will either be a relief, or a grand disappointment.
@camicawber

Those two losses - at home, to terrible teams, in consecutive weeks - are kinda tough to swallow right now. Beat those two teams and the Steelers are 11-5 and they've clinched. And if the offense we saw the last two weeks had been also there for the second Cleveland game, they're 12-4 with a chance for the division and the No. 1 seed this weekend. But I'm trying not to think of that now. Just hoping that Baltimore rests everybody, the Steelers win, and then...well, whatever else needs to happen, happens.

I think giving the refs in the cowboys lions game any kind of pass is insane. The lions lost squarely because the officiating crew couldn't do its job correctly. Putting any of that on the lions of Dan campbell is pretty wacky. I'm kind of stunned you guys were on any side other than, "Officiating crew ruined a great game by them not doing there job correctly."

I agree there is nobody to put that debacle on other than the refs, but it’s going too far to say that the Lions would have won the game if the refs had not screwed it up. Of the refs had told the defense that #68 was reporting eligible, that might have and likely would have changed how the defense covered the play.

Well as far as the Broncos go, Stidham threw for 224 yards and one TD. Which means he'd have to throw for 448 yards for 2 TDs. Respectfully DISAGREE that "Georgia stomping FSU proves that [having only] four teams [in the playoffs] was never enough. 1. FIRST, let me say that I agree 100% that having ONLY 4 teams in the playoffs was insufficient and wrong. There is SO MUCH quality and parity in college football that a playoff field of "only" 4 teams is inadequate. MANY more teams should be allowed, ESPECIALLY since major D-1 college football has basically allowed itself to evolve into a quasi-professional NFL farm league. That's NOT how even major D-1 college football used to be in yesteryear (even though certainly "some" players went to the pros). Now that D-1 is basically professionalized with NIL $$$ and the NCAA Transfer Portal eliminating players having to sit out a year, the level of parity and "quickly constructed" championship caliber teams DEMANDS a much deeper playoff field. 2. SECOND, the only thing U GA's unsportsmanlike "stomping" of FSU signaled to me was how petty, classless, thin-skinned, and vindictive Georgia, its coaches, and its players are. I get it. They're butt-hurt that they were left out of the playoff and unable to defend their title while other 1-loss teams got to go. I agree that it's unfortunate that 1-loss U GA missed the playoff cut by losing the SEC title game. But that's the way the cookie crumbles, and everyone knew that was a distinct possibility when there are only 4 teams artificially allowed. That said, there was absolutely NO NEED whatsoever for Georgia to "pour it on" and "show up" FSU so shamefully. FSU was SO depleted by both injury and players sitting out, that it never was a real contest from the beginning. So (to me), Georgia PROVED NOTHING about howe "good" they are by crushing a crippled opponent by a lopsided score. To me, Georgia looked terribly unsportsmanlike by the margin of victory. I realize not everyone will agree with my sense of honor and will think that teams should "run up the score" whenever they can -- that's their opinion (to which they are entitled, but it nonetheless personally disgusts me). 3. THIRD, what I'd really like to see happen is the elimination of these ridiculous "Conference Championship" games that provide a select few teams the opportunity for a "13th game," and INSTEAD create a substantial EXPANSION of the D-1 playoff. At the same time, I'd personally like to see a DRASTIC ELIMINATION in the number of all these crazy meaningless bowl games during the Holiday Season -- games that are all the more MEANINGLESS and WATERED DOWN (to the point of good teams in the regular season looking far more ordinary in the bowl game) because so many TOP TIER players with NFL aspirations elect to SIT OUT a non-playoff game rather than risk a significant injury that could cost them BIG $$$$ via lost NFL Draft position. Most players -- even those expected to play in the NFL WILL suit up for a playoff game wherein there is a chance/pathway to earn a National Championship ... BUT NOT when the bowl game is meaningless and is not part of the playoff system. I think the NCAA could have a Playoff Bracket of 32 teams -- take the "Top 25" Poll teams and then add 7 bids for a selection committee to tap late-season up-and-coming teams and/or teams from "lesser" conferences who still have had a great season and give them a shot at the tournament. The "first round" of the playoffs would be 16 games held during weekend that used to be the "13th" game of former conference championship games. Eliminating Conference Championship games would also sidestep the issue of a great team losing a last regular season game and/or conference title game (as happened to Ohio State and Georgia) and then suddenly becoming ineligible for the playoffs. The 16 winners from Round 1 would then advance to the 8 games of Round 2 played on 31 December and New Years' Day (4 games each day). This Round 2 could incorporate the MAJOR old traditional bowls (e.g., Rose, Cotton, Sugar, Orange, Fiesta, Peach, Citrus/Outback, and Gator) to keep the bowl nostalgia alive, if desired. There would be NO GAMES in December between Round 1 at the end of November/very early December and 31 December to allow players to focus on finishing the first semester and taking final exams. Then the 8 winners would advance to Round 3 of the playoffs which would take place in 4 games during January 6-7. The four winners would play in the 2 semi-final games (Round 4) in mid-January, and the 2 winners that emerged would play in the College National Championship game (Round 5) during the 3rd weekend of January. Players' school work would not be impacted because only the 2 teams playing in the National Championship game would POSSIBLY be playing after the second semester had just started. The teams would also be seeded and paired off such that #1 would play #32 in the 1st round, #2 would play #31, and so forth. The higher seeded teams would host the games on their home field in the first round. In the second round, the highest surviving seeded team would play the lowest surviving seeded team, and so on. This pairing protocol would last throughout the playoffs. Round 2 would be at neutral site bowls, and Rounds 3, 4, and 5 would be at neutral site stadiums too.

@wingedbuffalo4670
@wingedbuffalo4670 Жыл бұрын
Many thanks ... And while I'm at it, I think I'll take this opportunity to dispense with several likely naysayer objections ... (a) To those who would claim that "32 teams is too many," I would allow that, in "absolute value" terms of who is truly likely to be competing for and deserving of a National Championship, that MIGHT be a correct assessment ... BUT there are MULTIPLE other considerations that, upon deeper reflection, don't render an initial playoff field of 32 teams to be unreasonable at all: (1) The NCAA allows MORE THAN TWICE THAT MANY teams to have a shot at the National Championship in Basketball via "March Madness," so what's so terrible about giving 32 football teams a shot at the football title? Especially when ALL playoff teams will be decent at the very least. (2) Remember that one of the additional objectives of expanding the National Championship playoff is to eliminate the bevy of ridiculous, meaningless "exhibition" bowl games where players who have been key contributors to their team's regular season success suddenly "sit out" and/or "transfer" to supposedly "better" programs ... thereby rendering overnight the team that deserved and qualified for "bowl game x" to resemble NOTHING of the team's former self. Making these expanded games all PLAYOFF games makes it much more likely that the team's true capability will show itself because most all players WILL participate because they will have a legitimate shot at a title. (3) For the National Championship to be on a fair and level playing field, all teams who eventually advance to the title game must play the same number of games. This means that the playoff bracket MUST be either 4, 8, 16, or 32 teams UNLESS the NCAA wishes to "bake in" a certain number of teams that receive PREFERENTIAL TREATMENT via receiving a "first round bye." But awarding bye weeks is antithetical to having every team on a fair and level playing field. Clearly 4 and 8 teams are FAR TOO FEW. Arguably, 16 teams might well be too few as well, because many teams further down the Top 25 list are DEFINITELY CAPABLE of beating the "top teams." But 32 captures all of the Top 25 teams in the Nation pus a few others. (b) To those who would claim that "it's not fair" for a mere #32 ranked team to win a National Championship, I would state that the chances of that even remotely occurring is almost nil. Moreover, even allowing for the lightning strike possibility to occur, I would say this: (1) Even a 64th ranked (or 68th ranked play-in) team is NOT DENIED the opportunity to win a National Championship in basketball ... so what's so different about football that we can allow ourselves to become DOUBLY RESTRICTIVE that we are about basketball? (2) Moreover, any 32nd ranked football team [probably having as many as 3 losses during the season but also probably not as many as 4 losses and definitely not as many as 5 losses] that is able to defeat in succeeding playoff rounds the potential "murderer's row" of the #1, #2, #3, #4, and finally the #5 ranked teams in the entire Nation) FRANKLY DESERVES the Championship !!!! @@jeromemaida4933

Maybe because it wasn't Tommy John and he was ready to go in training camp. Maybe because Lamar Jackson outplayed Purdy and led the Ravens to a win over the anointed "best team". Maybe because yesterday Jackson led the Ravens to a 56-19 walloping of the 11-4 Dolphins to go 13-3 and clinching the AFC No. 1 seed while Purdy and the 49ers got to 12-4 and clinching the NFC No. 1 seed by beating the 4-11 Commanders 27-10. Maybe because if asked who the most valuable player for the 49ers is, most 49ers, fans, media, etc. would say CMC or Trent. After all, when the 49ers lost to the Browns it was but Trent and Deebo got hurt, and when they lost to the Vikings and Bengals it was but Trent and Deebo didn't play. The caveat for the 49ers since week 6 has been when the 49ers are healthy, if the 49ers are healthy, if the 49ers stay healthy. As if there aren't teams who have dealt with serious injuries all year (which the 49ers haven't) and still found ways to win. Can you even imagine what the 49ers 2023 season would have looked like if CMC had suffered a season ending injury in week 2, like the Browns did with Nick Chubb and who still got to 11-5 without him and going through 4 QBs?

Stars above, the Bills barely beat a reeling Chargers team and won extremely ugly against the Patriots with Bailey Zappe throwing three abysmal picks. And we're treating them like some superpower? At least wait to see if they beat the Dolphins in Miami before hyping them up, it's getting old... and even that wouldn't be particularly impressive considering the injuries the Dolphins have now.

It's never enough with you Bills bashers. Either they didn't win by enough or they beat an injured team blah blah blah. Miami would've already clinched the division if they didn't blow that game at home against the Titans. They don't play the games on paper. With all that said, Allen and the offense need to be way better or their season will be over quickly.
@kchandaman3012
@kchandaman3012 Жыл бұрын
@@davidleary4524I don't hate the Bills, and I'm not a Fins fan either. I'm just saying that the Bills offense, while certainly good in large part because of Josh Allen, still has a lot of issues that require him to be superhuman when he obviously can't do that all the time (no one can). Allen is extremely talented and one of my favorites, but if they don't run the ball, he is forced to make predictable plays that lack efficiency. Right now the Bills defense is still elite, especially with Douglas filling the void left by Tre White, but I do think there are legitimate questions as to whether that can get them far in the playoffs. By the way, all of what I said absolutely applies to my team, the Chiefs, who are rightfully discussed by the media as a team that's extremely flawed on offense but is getting carried by our defense. I do not believe the Chiefs can make it far in the playoffs, especially against teams like the Ravens. But the Bills seem to be placed in a tier above the Chiefs when they have a lot of the same problems despite overall having better receivers. They both have an inconsistent run game that results in sloppy play calling, and while the Bills seemed to learn from their mistakes with that win against the Cowboys, they're running less again. So I don't have much faith in either team getting past powerhouses like the Ravens or even Browns on the road to the Super Bowl. But we'll see, it's tough to predict the future lol.
@seanguitarman5594
@seanguitarman5594 Жыл бұрын
@@kchandaman3012 My point was every team has injuries, ...but the Bills had season ending injuries to their arguably 2 best defensive players, and this before 1/3 of the season even played out. Matt Milano was always key to our defense (defensive QB/Mike LB), especially after getting rid of Tremaine, ...and Tre White is only manageable because we happened to grab Rasul in a timely fashion. So neither team has an "injury advantage" really. Beyond that you make some solid observations. Both the Bills and Chiefs are having similar struggles, and the Bills are aggravatingly moving away from the running prowess and RB passing game that was lifting their offense whenever it was actually used. I believe Josh is still playing through his throwing shoulder injury from early on in the year, and that has been part of the reason his throws have been off in motion, touch, and depth. Other than that, both teams would benefit from their coaches focusing on getting key players involved in key ways, ...no matter the cost. Hope you had a good holiday week, and look forward to a Bills/Chiefs rematch! Go 🦬!!!

As for Detroit trying to trick Dallas, that’s not my opinion. Dan Campbell admitted it on Monday. “You’re gonna decide you’re gonna make 68 eligible and he walks over to the ref and then the ref stands over 68 before the play [and points at him] … you think you’re gonna be able to throw it to 68? Missed calls are one thing, but when a prenotification was caught on camera and yet the brain-dead and "part-time" referee just ignored it anyway, well that was priceless!
