I learned recently that a nerd, and a geek is actually different, a nerd is someone who's just unattractive, lacks social skills, badly/un-socialized etc. A "geek" is what I used to think a "nerd" was, someone who has a passionate interests and hobbies in certain topics, like tech/comics/toys/games etc, and actually are typically quite social (or capable of being social they want/need to).
