Most forget how legendary it was. He was getting 200 yard games against folks like the LA Rams, who played him with a 5 man front line. He still split them for multiple long runs. He also was less than 1 year removed from ACL surgery. The man was not entirely human. Nobody, and I mean NO ONE else has come back from an ACL and UCL tear in the knee and been the same player. AP wasn't just the same, he was Better!!!! nearly 2100 yards.

Man omg it was a pleasure and privilege to watch prime AP during the earlier part of his career with the Vikings. John Madden (RIP) would always say AP was a “violent runner” because the front of his jerseys would be all messed up from getting tackled and the turf, helmet paint, etc staining his jersey. Anyways for AP to have over 190 rushing yards, THAT is the epitome of old school Smashmouth football! Im an eagles fan and all but I feel a lil bad that AP literally put those vikings teams on his back and tried to run em to a super bowl win but he couldn’t do it all himself because those teams weren’t complete teams by a long shot. But i dont think we’ll ever see THIS kinda football ever again because the league has evolved into more of a passing league. Damn i miss old school running like what AP and Beastmode played….

@@SeaweedBrainCabin3 Id say APs TD numbers are suppressed by never having a passing game, the defense always knew in the red zone that AP was getting the ball so they sold out against the run. Personally I see LT and AP as neck and neck and you could really make a case for either but their respective stats were a product of their environment not their generational talents

@paysonfox88

@@nelsonbohanon2190 I would take Jim Brown and O.J. Simpson over anyone you just named. O.J. Simpson you can't argue with. He Rushed for 2003 yards in a 14 game season!!!!! He also played in BUFFALO in the SNOW and MUD. That means, he was getting 200 yard games in the worst running conditions all year, and still put up 2000,. No other RB that rushed for 2000 had to deal with that. CJ2K had modern turf and stadiums, and he played against defensed geared tward the pass. In OJ's day, running the ball was the primary option, and you threw to keep the defense honest. In Barry Sanders and CJ's days, passing was primary, and you ran to keep the defense honest. There is no comparison.

Generational talent, but AP still falls short of LOB legacy. This was posted because 2012-2016 Seattle was recently brought up as the Top 3 defenses in history; Statistically being the #1 defense during those 4 years by just running TWO types of plays. This should really be an example of a Vikings team who had the best RB in the league, but never saw the SuperBowl. A very relevant topic in 2023, involving large investments into the position.
