The 5-0 start by the Vikings was such a fluke, but the analysis doesn’t do it justice. That defense wasn’t just top 10. They were unstoppable despite having no OL or running game on the other side to give them rest. They saved the first five games with key turnovers, and Bradford was playing lights out. The OL was bad enough at the start of the year (Matt Kalil, Alex Boone and friends sucked) but then we were seeing the third string backups by midseason. Everyone says they have the worst OL, but watch a Vikings game from after week 5 and tell me you’ve seen a worse OL. There seemed to pressure instantly every play, without opposing teams blitzing anyone. TJ Clemmings one of the worst LTs I’ve ever seen (couldn’t stop anyone for a second, called for holding and false starts all the time). Matt Asiata totally shit starting RB (couldn’t get more than 3 yards on a run and out of the league soon after). Bradford had like a half second to throw most plays, to the point they had to scheme their offense around a useless line and he broke the completion percentage record with all the quick dumpoffs. The defense was still great but they couldn’t singlehandedly win games anymore and stopped getting as many turnovers as the first five weeks. Also lost our head coach for a game due to eye surgery. All around mess and it absolutely sucked watching it lol

@@joemckim1183 Surerly. And also, these long streaks are probably as much a distraction and burden for the players as it is an achievment, for it creates a false focus. And when it ends it's probably at least as much a relief as it is sadness. When they are multiple scores down at last, I guess many of them secretly welcome this long-last L so this totally meaningless false focus goes away at last.

What’s really crazy to me about the 2004 Eagles is that even though they were that year’s last undefeated team, won 13 games and were the top team in the NFC, the Steelers and Patriots both had better records than them and each looked like a far superior team both times they played Philly that season.

my packers had no business going 13-0 in 2011. they had the worst ranked defense in the league. but rodgers and the receivers willed that team to those wins.

As a Bostonian…2007 was rough as a pats fan. My submarine returned from deployment in November. We had been deployed for 6 months. My Celtics got the “big 3” together My bruins found a new coach My Red Sox were KILLING everyone Then, my patriots were on a fuckin rampage. Super bowl 42 was heartbreaking. What made it worse?!?! I was stationed in Hawaii, and my barracks at Pearl Harbor is viewable from aloha stadium where the pro bow was played. Signs were everywhere that said “congrats champion NY Giants” that whole week was a Fuckin hangover from the game to the pro bowl game

This video brought us some painful memories, all my Packers had to do was beat the Giants at home, and we shit the bed. Again. At home. Against the Giants. Too many Super Bowl opportunities wasted by either bad defense, an off day for the offense, or our special teams rearing it’s ugly head. Pain.

@evanmazza52812 жыл бұрын
Crazy that the Patriots 2007 undefeated season would've ended in Baltimore if not for Rex Ryan calling a time out. The Ravens season was lost by that point and they would've salvaged it that night. Also, the Ravens divisional loss to that '06 Colts team was brutal. 2nd worst loss in team history.

I thought that John Harbaugh was coaching the Ravens in 07
@evanmazza5281 Жыл бұрын
@stephenschwenke720 Brian Billick coached that team in '07. It was his last year before Harbaugh took over in '08. Rex Ryan was the DC. Ryan called a timeout on a 4th down stop that would've ended that game and the Patriots undefeated season.

I know people will just shit on the Patriots for not winning the Super Bowl in 2007 but after watching this video it really puts into context what they accomplished that year by starting 18-0. We see how hard it is run the table and get through the postseason but going 16-0 through the regular season is really ridiculous. The league is so balanced that’s it’s almost impossible to go through the entire regular season without a loss. It took an unbelievable performance by the Giants front 4 on defense and the Tyree catch in order for the Pats to lose just 1 game. And that was only by a FG. The margin of error was close.
@drencrum Жыл бұрын
It's really luck, the 17-0 Dolphins suffered injury setbacks during the season with the starting QB Bob Griese going out for a chunk of time but they had a veteran backup Earl Morral (who had commanded the Colts to a dominant season in 1968 w/ Shula) who kept the season alive. They (like the 2007 Pats) also played against an overachieving team from the NFC East in a game with a narrow margin but won theirs.

I remember thinking the '08 Titans might just be the team to finally take us all the way. But once again another postseason letdown. It took them 8 years to make it back to the playoffs

What I found astonishing was that, while the Patriots have been the most successful team so far in the 2000s, they were only the last undefeated team once (18-0!)… and they failed to win the Super Bowl that year.
