After waiting patiently for many months now, we can now present you Free Roam in Olympic City and both drift courses without the need of any trainers. This is the most stable version to date and there will be no compatibility issues across versions of the games.

When I was a child, I always wondered what is behind all this walls and things that teleports you back. I used to see some connections between tracks even then. Couple days ago I have installed Underground again just for nostalgia feelings, but found that I see even more familiar places and connections between tracks, and this sense of curiosity came back. And now you make one of my child dreams come true. Thank you for your work even after so many years passed after game birth and death. It's actually exciting how world has changed. In those old days I used to live without Internet, and never thought that something like custom made mods even exists. Nowadays we take such things for granted, even in the past we never thought it's a real thing.

@@AkinaJVS 2015 was some edgy wannabe, not bad but very lacking. Payback is absolute trash those characters are disgusting, gambling for parts is disgusting. Heat was boring, I liked it but it just felt ...empty. Also all of them have those horrible driving physics. EA will never make a good nfs, the only way is selling the franchise.

IMO, NFSU2 is like a continuation of NFSU1 since they both run on the same engine, and Palmont is like a remaster of Olympic City being how similar the architectures look. The soundtracks and the whole scenery are just unbeatable in NFSU1, can only imagine how wonderful it would be if it had a completed map like NFSU2

Which both games are somehow similar to Hot Pursuit 2 (the PS2 version), Underground 1 and 2 use a lot of physics from Hot Pursuit 2 but they're a bit tweakened, same goes for traffic cars as well. Except there are no cops in UG1 and UG2.

Actually Hot Pursuit 2 to Undercover and World uses the same engine (EAGL) only updated from time to time, of course. It would be dope to Pick the older EAGL games and put them into EAGL 4 or 3. I can imagine using Carbon as a base to Underground 1 and 2 "remasters", and Most Wanted to Hot Pursuit 2.

this is really cool cause I've always wondered what was behind those areas you couldn't get to however, this just wouldn't work in this game, and I'm really glad it wasn't included the sense of speed is too fast, so you would be around the map in a few minutes this game just clearly wasnt made for this but still, it's a great mod, and respect for doing this. Hey, a year late, sorry. For rivals, I am not too sure if free roam can be done. It's much more linear than Underground, you don't really see the same connections between tracks.

Growing up is realising Olympic City actually makes no sense at all lol. The roads aren't layed out like a city and there seemed to be about 4 different "downtown" areas with skyscrapers everywhere. Looking at the map, it's almost like they drew a load of racing circuits, fitted them together and then just put a city skin over the top of it to act as a backdrop.

What tools did you use to accomplish this? Surely there must have been a process of exporting and editing the map files to get rid of all the barriers and duplicate objects. I think it would be cool to get something like this into a blender scene.

We used a hex editor to learn how the collision worked and then created our own programs to automate the process of merging the data together. The barriers had to be removed manually.
