2:10 You asked if there's a beta version of Hot Pursuit 2, there actually is. I have a romdump of a PS2 beta build labeled as being from March 2002. It has some unfinished courses and some dev tracks that are straight up out of the mind of someone who I can only assume was deep into the throes of a dissociative fugue state. The AI is mostly functional, but there is usually always a "lead car" who will just rocket off past you no matter what car class you're driving, and just keep going. In other words, they active the "AI catch-up" flag and just never turn it off, making numerous random races unwinnable. It just goes to show that for whatever reason, even with their first NFS title, EA Black Box was utterly determined to create and maintain demonic AI.

You can disable that God forsaken song in the main menu through options and ea trax. turning all of them to off disables it completely. Also, if you can't complete a race, you can still just force the race the end in first place with the debug settings. this game is cursed. Edit: Spoke too soon. The song re-enables itself after about 45 seconds into a race. God has forsaken us.

Yep, there are two hp2 ps2 builds. One has very few changes, but the other one is like a different game

"I wonder if there is a Beta version of Hot Pursuit 2" There is one, but the changes are more minimal than in Underground (except if you look for the Debug Menu) Here are some Infos i got from the Cutting Floor: Compiled a month before the final build. Behind the senses using black box intro as placeholder. Save file has different name BASLUS-20362NFS6 while final is BASLUS-20362HP2. Car unlocks for NFS edition are different NFS Points, it has required more millions than final. Dash models for all Ferrari cars still exist in this build and can accessible in event 31 (Ferrari F50 in Championship and Ferrari 550 Barchetta in Ultimate racer) and 32 (Ferrari 360 Spider) with completely locked camera cockpit. In final, only event 31 can change any camera. Also there is a unused dash model for Ferrari 360 Modena. Outback track has a bit different skybox

The full screen minimap and the debug menu is still in the final and can be enabled. I only made a cheat code for the PS2 NTSC build out of the console builds but if you need it in the final build lmk EDIT: as for traffic rubberband, it's not impossible. I did make them use the racer AI but they're still slow traffic cars so they're just slow all the time anyway. That can be fixed though.
