Nice learner practice. Much appreciated. The tonal modulations similar to what one may find on air

@NG9D-Thanks for this upload. Very interesting clip. There are few things left in modern society that bear personal characterization but I believe using MC and the key probably stand out as one of the last strongholds of individuality. In the excellent book "The Red Orchestra" by V.E.Tarrant,clandestine radios used by(Russian) agents in WWII,at times had a work load of 5 hours non-stop, sending pages of 5 digit code groups while German radio-detection squads stalked the streets in hot pursuit.

The receiver is an electronics hobby kit sold by Ten Tec, model T1056. The circuit board is installed in a Radio Shack project enclosure. The kit comes with all the parts for any single amateur radio HF band from 1.8MHz to 30 MHz. 73, NG9D

PLUGS PL259. THAT COMBINATION IS NOT PARTICULARLY IMPEDANCE MATCHED EITHER. THE REASON THAT THIS IS NOT (.-... I think that’s wait/standby) QSTDE W2AW= RECOMMENDED IS THAT THERE ARE A NUMBER OF MECHAN The .-... at 3:37 I think is the code for “wait/standby,” the -...- at 4:16 is “=“ usually but I don’t know if that’s intentional Took me a while to remember impedance is actually a word lol Still not sure if PLUGS PL259 is supposed to be something else but I’m fairly confident I heard that right? As far as “(.-...wait) QSTDE W2AW=“, I can’t for the life of me figure out if it actually said something else and I heard it wrong. I was fairly sure I heard it right but just theoretically looking at the letter patterns, I’m trying to see if maybe the transmitter was slightly off which led to misreads? Idk. I’m coming up with the same things again and again. It’s possible that “wait QSTDE W2AW=” is to be disregarded and it’s just supposed to continue “THE REASON THAT THIS IS NOT (“wait/standby”, gibberish) RECOMMENDED” or something, and maybe MECHAN is supposed to continue to mechanisms. But if the wait code and the following letters are to be disregarded, then I would think they’d use the “erase/error/disregard” one which is ........ which I know that’s a rare and mostly unused code but if they were actually using the wait code and the = sign, then I would think they’d know the error code too. So maybe not? Idk Still no idea on PLUGS PL259. No idea. Think I interpreted it right and as far as the “wait” and “=“ I’m probably reading into it too much but no idea overall lol

The first ? at 3:37 sounded like .-... which used to be used as like an interval or a “wait/standby” The second ? at 4:17 sounded like -...- which can be “=“ I also don’t know if that’s intentional usage bc those codes are obscure and not really used anymore so it still makes no sense lol

Hi Rex, Thanks for the comment. This is probably not uncommon for a home-brew radio. Two reasons for the adjustments, it drifts a bit when warming up. Also when RF gain is increased, it will slightly detune. I have used this same circuit board on other radios I have made and noticed on the lower frequencies these effects are less pronounced. This receiver works on 14 MHz (20m). I have tested the circuit out on other bands (7, 3.5 and 1.8MHz) and found as the frequency is decreased, the stability improves. I doubt this circuit would work very well on, say, 10 or 6 meters. But even on 14MHz, when the receiver is warmed up and the signal is fairly steady (not requiring adjustment to RF gain) it seems to do OK. Here is another example of this receiver after warming up with a steadier signal kzbin.info/www/bejne/fJiVgqugjtaLf9E 73, Lynn

Hi, thanks for the reply back. I didn’t mean for that comment to come across as rude, sorry. I was just starting to learn cw, and easily thrown off. Last time I listened to this, I was maybe getting 1 in 4 characters. Now it seems so slow. The mfj code tutor is working, I’m up to 10 wpm 👍 🤓 Keep up the great vids, thanks.
