The 1697 Thaler is indeed a knight trampling over envy, greed,and lust.Thalers came from Joachimthalers,minted in Bohemia, which was part of the Holy Roman Empire,in fact,their first large size thalers appeared in 1524.The predecessor to those were the guldengroschens,which were minted in 1486,the first true large size coins.Alot of variations with different rulers.

Thank you for showing non-USA coins. I pretty much gave up on US coins and started on German and British. Their long history you have a lot of categories to collect from.

I appreciate your erudite perspective on coins especially those which have absolute and condition rarity. Oftentimes these coins are beyond my ability to collect them but not beyond my ability to appreciate them. I have a first century BC tetradrachma from Thessalonica. Alexander on the obverse. Not quite.sure if I should have it slabbed.
