Every week we are given new intel after taking out the Nemesis in the Descent game mode. This video will be a continuation of the last video where I covered off the first 4 comms.
If you haven’t seen it, I’d highly suggest checking it out first, as I will be referring to it throughout.

However, here is a quick rundown of what was discovered:
It is based in a time long before the outbreak, likely years.
Calvin McManus and Natalya Sokolova are talking to Alexander and Claire Ortiz about a new piece of tech they have created. 3 different AI systems, one of which is ISAC.
Natalya isn’t completely sold on the tech at this stage, as she has concerns around the amount of data it gathers, however it would appear she eventually buys into it later on, as her Black Tusk can be seen sporting the logo of one of the AI’s, called diamond.
However, in the background, Claire Ortiz does not trust Natalya, and is providing Calvin with more advanced access to all three of these systems.

Interesting: So ISAC is an offshoot of ANNA, a more advanced critical thinking ai as well as the NSA knew about ameheryst ideology and what he could do, but McManus allowed it. Hopefully we can put this guy in the ground as well upgrade to ANNA soon. Since Season 3 of year 5 is Vanguard, I imagine it’ll tie back to Keener. Maybe we’ll indirectly spread ANNA to every agent’s watch to increase our Carte Blanche effectiveness.

Amazing work as always. 😊 I just have an issue about Anna/Isac. You see Alexander mentions if they prefer Anna they would delete Isac. The discussion they have shows that Isac was not part of the original 3 AI systems that they proposed to Calvin and Natalia. So the OG 3 AI were Anna, diamond and something else. They later gave them Isac instead of Anna I believe. So my guess is Hunters have different AI system. Anna was not being used until theo parnel uncovered it and gave it to keener for rouge network. I may be wrong tho. Just a thought 😅

ANNA was developed before ISAC was anything. But when it was field tested then operators did not like that ANNA was so smart. ANNA gave the operator more freedom of choice when it came to decision making. That's when ISAC came into play and was more black and white. As for the Hunters, Cal wanted a system separate from ANNA and ISAC. Hence why when you come across those guys ISAC has no fucking clue as to who or what they are, not to mention how they are able to jam/ hijack your skills. The Hunters essentially have that back down access.

I don't think Hunters use ANNA because they would have known and taken care of Keener, Jupiter, Hornet and all other rogue agents way before we came to know about hem. I like the idea that ANNA may be listening to us through keener's watch. She may activate for us upon some big event. I will detail my thoughts : I went back to the final mission and ending of WoNY ending to be sure and as I remembered, ANNA was activated before Keener's dying as she tried to kill us through SHD tech boxes in the room before getting outside to Keener while she erased all data about Keener and his project ("initiating data purge" as she stated). At this point, after surviving the tech attack, she states that the systems are rebooted and initiating the final sequence which could either be linked to Keener's missile launch or ANNA's full activation. Upon his death Keener seems to sets the full activation and lock the watch at the same time ; Theo's parnell's watch is locked too as we can see in Faye Lau's hand. At this time, Keener is dead and his watch activate by herself to show us Faye Lau's and Schaeffer's conversation stating : "hostile radio intercepted". But hostile to who ? Keener is already dead as stated by ISAC, so ANNA knows it too meaning that either she wanted us to track Schaeffer and then Lau through manipulation (like Keener tried), either she believes that we are the "true heart" of the division because we stopped Keener's mass slaughter. It links us to previous Descent audio logs where we learnt that McManus and his hunters were allied to BT and those audio logs that hint that he may have not prevented the green poison outbreak. McManus seems more and more as a villain having let the outbreak happen to seize power through the use of both the Division and BT. Having the Division make the first and second clean and BT eliminating the Division and then his hunters controlling both BT and Division problems/remnants. Diamond seems to be an AI dedicated to Sokolova and BT that we don't know much but isn't really on civilian protection since it doesn't seem to derange him/her that BT execute civilians. The first set of Descent Audio logs stated that every data from the 3 systems went into the same place. ANNA has been "in sleep" or inactivated for quite some time, but what if she was still gathering data all this time. What if the AI has been listening on every watch, collecting every data making her at least aware of McManus plan and BT doings. ANNA was mostly created by Claire Ortiz, which is depicted in the logs as a fabulous scientist with sincere thoughts of helping and protecting people and was aware of private contractors problematics and more inclined to give the tech to the government for the benefit of the people. She may have instilled this "protect people" mindset into ANNA, which upon full activation led her to think of how to protect people. What if Keener had Parnell "only" constraint ANNA to follow his needs on the watches he modified but ANNA's core is still free otherwise meaning she can analyse and think on her own ? By killing Keener we may have created her a watch where she is freed from Parnell's contraint and can interact with the outside world as she did by giving us Lau's & Schaeffer's conversation. Seeing what we did with Keener, she would then think of us as potential agents to accomplish her goals of protecting the people. To test us, she would give us Lau's and Schaeffer's alliance to see how we would handle it. At the end of Y5S1, we have protected Washington from both Jupiter and Hornet, protecting a lot of lives, then we have handled the Schaeffer/Lau's alliance. All the BT/True Sons alliance phase doesn't concern her until BT attacked the White House and kidnapped civilians of interest. Maybe she will activate herself upon Y5S2 or Y5S3 when it would chronologically be at the same time than the Division deactivation ? At this time, we would continue to protect people, becoming rogue in ISAC's binary vision as Claire and Alexander Ortiz stated and ANNA would then pop up out of nowhere with a line like : "ISAC sucks. Need a new AI to accomplish your mission ? I am ANNA, much better and here to help you". (How awesome would that be ^^) I think that Schaeffer's awakening and learning about his and Lau's intel/plan will be coincident with Division deactivation and probably us becoming Rogue Agents for ISAC. Question at this time will be what about Kelso ? Would she stand down and hunt us if we don't ? Would she abandon protecting the white house, NYC, Manny... ? That is a lot of questions but that is why this Y5 will be exciting and I think that they can't give us that much lore just so we can't have access to this better AI which would be a very good change for all players and to ensure people to keep playing.

I am starting to like ANNA more as we learn more about her in these audio logs. She is more "human" in a way so she understands situations where a Agent will need to do something a bit off to achieve their goals along with more options to how they can achieve their goals and account for actions in a way she does not consider all "rogue agents" as evil as well. Not to mention she is advance enough that a Agent can literally talk to her like a normal person even with her limited ability to respond. Of course there are always concerns about creating a AI that can literally come close or start developing Actual Intelligence as we seen in these audio logs as well.

i tried to not be that person, but here I go anyways. In ThE bOoKs, ANNA displays little concern about killing people, or even its owners death. it was indifferent. i feel like it probably does not even have a moral compass. So its not the case she understands necessary evil exists, it feels like she doesn't know evil from good.

@@andersenzheng it is possible those aspect may have been added in by Keener's choice. What we see here in the Descent logs are mostly during the early development stages when they are still adjusting the AI to account for things and adjust their morale values assessments which we see here with how they are concern with ISAC limited moral values due to his limited design but concern with ANNA's ability in greater processing ability and how it may affect her. However, we still do not know how much of ANNA in current events used by Rogues are originally ANNA design or additions as the result of Keener and Theo's development into finishing ANNA. There is also the question of how much of ANNA was finished and not finished. We know Keener had Theo finish ANNA which is why previously we all thought ANNA was made by Theo but now we learn ANNA always existed but Keener manage to obtain ANNA some how. However, from how things went previously, Keener may have obtained ANNA in a unfinished state.

I think it is HUGE that they mention ANNA can pass the turing test, that is like, next level AI stuff, and if that means Diamond can too, gods only know what that means, given we see Black Tusk with state of the art robotics as well

The Turing test isn't actually that high of a bar to clear when it comes to AI. It's more about testing with an AI can hold something like a conversation, not whether it's capable of complex reasoning.

5:30 now I feel bad for killing some of those npc rogue agents, even during combat they try to justify their actions as "doing the right thing" I feel like later in the series there will definitely be a choice between following orders, or doing the right thing. Faye Lau is a perfect example.

Keener had knowledge of ANNA and knew the capabilities and you often heard him calling thr agents "mindless drones" " following orders" etc bc he knew that ISAC was a liberal system that MADE your decisions for you. But knew the capabilities of ANNA which gave the agents/operators more freedom of choice which let the agent decide what action to take in any given situation. So the Rogue Network (ANNA) really ISNT a " Rogue Network" per say, but more of opening the minds of the agents to let them see there is more to their choices than a AI system. So by doing that they are going against the grain or "rogue".

Funny, as you mentioned the Hunters not using bricks, I thought about that I have added 2 years ago to my Hunter cosplay (you once showed it in a video of yours, thanks for that btw I was SO happy that day!) A "hacked" and wired brick to the lower part of the backpack as gimmick. For years we know hunters can hack and disrupt skills with ease, but we did not know why they collect watches at this point. So I thought a skilled hunter could hack an ISAC brick in combination with the watches to enter and utilities the ISAC network to track down agents. In a similar manner I one played an Division text RP where my Hunter oc tried this.

Big theory here, if the Hunters are using ANNA instead of ISAC, it wouldn't surprise me if McManus paid extra to the Ortiz's for some extra privileges that Sokalova didn't want, I believe the Hunters are about as experienced or more than the division and would explain why they are so damn strong and tanky, they are the 3rd wave, but they could've been trained for longer before the outbreak, under orders from the secretary of defense, it's possible that the Hunters are just special forces like the Ghosts from Ghost Recon, maybe even trained for black ops missions on USA soil. Whether McManus paid the Ortiz's for the simulation is unclear until the future reveals more about why the simulation became accessible so late in the division world

Hey really enjoy the work and I was thinking a bit about Keener network. From what I remember (I can be totally wrong so do call me out if I am) Keener network is a subnetwork or maybe a leech network that getting some access to ANNA but doesn't have all the bells and whistles that a wearer should have. You could kinda think of it as three islands with Issac & Anna being the main island while Keener network is a man made island between the two allowing for things he wants to get through while keeping out the things he doesn't. So the reason behind not having Anna could be that AI is working with the enemy which could leave Issac as the better choice for us.

As always, great job on the video. I don't think the hunters are using only Anna, I think they're either cycling through all 3 AIs or using an amalgam of the 3 systems. I think Cal brought Theo in to combine the systems and that how Theo and Keener were able to access Anna through thier watches. I believe the division have isac as stock with Anna as a built in backup but no access to diamond, this would explain why they went with Anna instead of the creation that the hunters are using. I don't think the Division can access anna through Keener's watch because they don't even know it's there, but maybe after these coms, they'll know what to look for and we can upgrade isac to Anna

Great work with the lore and comms of decent. Just unlocked recent coms as of Aug 16. I have a lore narrative that would peel back layers of untold story. The issue I have is with the mission of SHD. It’s the continuity of government. Right now that in gameplay is to keep the black tusk from taking over the country or at least be recognized as the true arm of the government. The way I see it using the comms from decent is the US line of succession. Pres Waller died in game lore passing the role of president to Ellis, Fay killed Ellis, next is the president of the House of Representatives who is unknown, then the senate also unknown. But after those 2 it’s Calvin McMenus as secretary of defense. Since he made the Hunter program who eliminates agents he must not be president at all costs because then he becomes our boss. When I think of McManus all I can conclude to is “Order 66” from Star Wars where agents are the Jedi order. Hunters exist to hunt agents. Agents know who our Palpitine is so he should be a future man hunt target as to find the last two people in the line of succession. Once agents get a president who can be trusted then the directives that ISAC uses to determine if an agent is on mission or rouge can change. This will benefit agents to keep them from being hunted by other agents, hunters, homeland security, the general public and any other faction.

I only defeated the nemesis once, the difficulty of the simulation spikes sometime. Or maybe it's because i suck at it. Either way, it'd be nice to have ANNA as our new voice on the watch. ISAAC is fine but a more entertaining chatter on the coms would be nice. And if I hear this right, perhaps we'll get more options in missions if we had ANNA. She'd give us options either to directly attack, or optionally go in stealth. But on the serious note, I'd prefer ISAAC over ANNA. While ANNA is more independent and advance, simplicity can often time be what we need. There's a good chance that these two AIs will go toe to toe, or band together to face off DIAMOND.

We probably don't hear ANNA on the watch we took from keener because he locked it before we took it from him, and I believe they could only partly unlock it (giving us a slight boost in our agents power. Or Parnell reprogrammed ANNA to be different so she won't just speak without prompt.

Very hard to say whether McManus is just an jerk or whether he's actively helping Amherst. From those comms it very much sounds like he's just not interested in the deeper information available, though why he as the head of Homeland Security is making that decision doesn't make much sense. I am positive that the NSA monitors lots of people without the department head having any direct input on those choices - although they may be provided with the reports. For him to be specifically asking about, or being briefed on, Amherst is a bit strange. And then there is the whole ANNA, ISAC, DIAMOND thing. It makes a LOT of sense that ISAC is a more limited version of ANNA. But it does, as you said, beg the question of who is using ANNA given that it doesn't appear that Hunters are carrying that sort of gear. Then again, if they could modify the system so that McManus doesn't need to carry the brick I'm sure that it's possible that the Hunters have some item that allows them to access ANNA. Maybe one day I'll actually manage to get further in Decent than a couple of rounds. All I seem to do is keep running into Bomber Drones which destroy me as I just don't seem to be able to take them down fast enough. Looking at the season 5 trailer seeing the hunters collecting all the agents ISAC watches I was thinking Nat might be trying to cripple or cut off ISAC for all the Division when in turn could cause the agents to turn to the use of ANNA from the watch they retreived from Keener back in New York that Theo Parnell hacked into.

My working theory behind them was pretty much that the "trophy" watches were not a decoration but a diversion in part to give them a menacing image that they cultivate on one side and on the other to hide that what they are doing. I think they are using multiple watches to effectively "hijack" processing power and access and the trophies are in part a scheme to hide that in plain sight. Given what happened when we got keener's watch i think this is valid. I don't think hunters use the 3 systems individually but all of them. I think this is less likely theory then previous ones but i think they have access to the "full" system of all 3 A.I.'s and that they were originally intended to be a part of a greater whole. If they were ever to lets say hijack warhounds or other diamond assets i think that would bolster this.

So, what I understood is , there are 4 AI , ANNA,DIAMOND, something else and ISAC , and ISAC is just a gimmick . Diamond is being used by BT , and ISAC is being used by TD Agents, but ANNA is inert, I mean I may be wrong here. So ANNA is not active, and was only used by Keener and Parnell. The other "something else" AI is being used by the Hunters, where that AI is pooling data from all other 3 AI ? Now I am a little confused here, so the rogues encounter which we have at CP4 , are they running ANNA ? So , in the future, what I am thinking is, maybe instead of killing off ISAC , we can give ISAC access to ANNA's neural network or something, like basically the training data which makes ANNA smarter than ISAC , because taking down an AI will not be very nice, specially for ISAC, who is incapable of thinking. Note : But if you think about it, its us , the division agents who gets to face all the hard choices due to a lack luster AI. We turned on our fellow agents because the AI told us to, essentially getting rid of all kinds of emotional attachments and that sort of thing. Which in return, makes us a whole lot of stronger, and whole lot of dangerous (and a whole lot of dead ). Those BT with their weak diamond AI is only winning due to their majority in numbers, and the Rogues who die at Control Points and Summits due to being too busy simping on ANNA.

I think like an earlier descent recording stated about if someone dug through the garbage they could find the backdoor that gets you into all three systems through one system. I think Theo dug through and gave keener and rogues access to ANNA which we now know is the advanced version of ISAC. Keener probably saved the watch with access to all three systems for himself which explains how he stayed ahead of the division, black tusk and hunters/HLS. But that means our agent has that watch which might mean we might unlock access to all the systems down the road.

on one hand it makes sense that anna is preferred as anna has more flexibility than isac but at the same time it also opens up opportunities for more problematic agents that use immoral means to achieve their goals. not to mention anna also seems to draw from agents' experiences which means if more and more agents used immoral means then anna would learn from that and allow it meaning before we know it the entire division would basically become like the true sons. at least with isac although limited has clear boundaries on how division agents can operate because keep in mind the division practically operates with impunity. thus if some division agent starts committing crimes in the name of order and stability no one can actually hold them accountable, there's no paramilitary branch that can police division agents and charge them with any crimes except themselves.

If you playback the “new AI” recording you will hear ANNA’s AI voice then playback the Liberty Island mission, before taking down who we believe is Keener you can hear ANNA’s voice say “Threat detected”. When fighting Keener look at his watch and brick the brick is on his hip. This lead me to think he was using ANNA not ISAC and that was not Keener, from part 1 and all the content up to warlords of New York I think Keener is more fit to be the Recruiter than the Eclipse missile launching villain in the DLC. We already learned Theo Cornell’s research shows he can edit an agent’s identity and Keener showed ISAC can be hacked leading me to think ANNA can override ISAC at anytime and when agents took his watch in the end cutscene our SHD watches granted us access to ANNA in the form of SHD levels. Like DIAMOND it’s been in front of our faces this whole time.

If you think about it Keener was only rouge agent able to hack our skills same as hunters do, but he was also able to hack Black Tusk tech, so there is possibility, that once we will gain knowledge how to bypass or switch to different network, we also may be able to hack enemy skills and tech. Technically we are using Keener's watch which have the tech build in much more like the three network single watch, ISIC is just not smart enough to use it? Just imagine legendary stronghold with hacked warhound...

However, later on she changes to anti ANNA (essentially scrapping the system) and pro ISAC. WHY? What made her change? Why is ISAC less capable and "smart?" Alright so i have a question. If ISAC is the dumber version of ANNA then why did the division go with ISAC? Or were they not informed about ANNA? Here it shows that only ANNA was legitimately being put on trial by the government and ISAC was more of a docile version if they thought ANNA was too human. Im assuming that the division wasnt informed about this but if they were informed and they went with ISAC in the end didn't they handicap their agents intentionally? Probably the reason many agents got killed because ISAC was mostly docile to take decisions in high pressure situations and the agents were left with their own intuition to take decisions instead of having options from a more smarter AI which could analyse the situation perfectly and help agents make an informed decision.

If they gave the rouges a more flexible AI over ISAC being very black and white does that mean they could be right about their actions and intents. According to the end of season 11, the SHD Network is operating at 50%. We're most likely going use the ANNA servers to strengthen the SHD Network and to prevent Black Tusk from remotely shutting down the network again.

I kinda hope that for The Division 3 they employ a good old-fashioned faction system, where each one uses either ISAC, ANNA, or Diamond. Three different faction PVE stories to explore, three different sets of faction gear and cosmetics/skins, and of course there's your basis for PvP and PvPvE.
