The old highway name is NH 47B and the new name is NH 944. It is called so because it connects to NH 44 (new number after NHAI renamed highways based on direction of travel). There is some confusion because the current two lame road is also having the same number. Once the four lane road is opened, it will be the official NH 944 (same as how after construction, the new four lane road to Trivandrum will be NH 66).
