The Thirumangalam-Shenkottai project is being planned in two phases Thirumangalam-Rajapalayam (71km) and Rajapalayam-Shenkottah (80km).
The existing project alignment (Existing Km 0+000 to Km 73+380) is part of Madurai-Kollam section of NH-744 and included under Inter Corridor route of Bharatmala Pariyojana Phase-I. Thirumangalam -Rajapalayam section of NH-744 proposed for up-gradation is spanning through Madurai & Virudhnagar dist.
NH744 Thirumangalam to Kollam Srivilliputhur to Rajapalayam Stretch

Land acquisition for work on the 72-km stretch of the Tirumangalam-Rajapalayam section is at an advanced stage.
“The tender process will be finalised very soon for the work to be taken up at a cost of ₹1,600 crore,” an official from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) said.
The work will be split into two packages --- Tirumangalam-Vadugapatti and Vadugapatti-Rajapalayam - of 36 km each.
