The waivers thing happens when you trade an NHL player on your team for an AHL player or draft pick on theirs (or the balance of NHL and AHL players is off). This happens because the AI teams usually have full rosters, so to receive an additional 1 way contract they would need someone to go through waivers. The teams that can trade either do not have full 1 way rosters or have an empty roster spot. The teams will also be willing to put a player through waivers if you account for something around 50% of the players value in the trade or if the trade is for big name players (a team would still take Crosby even if they had to put someone through waivers for him and the value was even).
@utubeseiz9 жыл бұрын
One way you can guess which teams you can trade with is look at their rosters and see if there are any players on the bottom 2 lines that would probably have a 2 way contract. If they do, then they should trade with you. Additionally, they usually wont drop a top 2 line player (forward or defender) to the AHL even if they do have a two way deal.
@utubeseiz9 жыл бұрын
and don't turn waivers off because of this, I think it makes it more realistic (think of how rarely teams place useful players on waivers in the real NHL) and adds a new level of difficulty to the trades.

Also, trade away Mike Smith. He could end up somewhat salvaging the season because he's 89 ovr, which we don't want because it would be great to get the 1st overall pick for McDavid.
@utubeseiz9 жыл бұрын
problem is that NO nhl team would trade an elite goalie with some years left in him even for a McDavid. Good Goalies are very hard to come by.

New game, never know what some goalie prospects can turn into...
@utubeseiz9 жыл бұрын
Its true, but you've got at least 4 years off very high quality goalie in Mike Smith and then he'll still have decent trade value at the end of that, even if it isn't as high as it is now.
@Shotyonly9 жыл бұрын
Also the goalie market in the real nhl is pretty dry right now you can get a starting goalie for a second and maybe 2 prospects. Centre ice men that are first liners rarely get traded young.

The guys you are trying to give away have higher overalls than some guys on their NHL roster so they would have to send someone down, either their own guy or the guy you are trading, risking losing them to waivers. The only way for it to work is for you to trade your guys that have two way contracts or trade for a guy that is on their NHL team, that way you avoid them having to and someone down to the AHL.

Johnny, here's an explanation on the Cullen deal. Nashville had the maximum amount of forwards with one-way contracts on their main roster. So by trading them another player with a one-way contract, they'd have to send one of their guys through waivers.
@intensemajick15979 жыл бұрын
In the upcoming draft you should definitely trade some of your first and second rounders for high draft picks to get McDavid, Eichel, etc. to build a core and you can fill the supporting cast through free agency or a few trades. Plus I feel you should trade Mike Smith soon for a goalie or again maybe draft picks but hey, I'm not the one running the series. Do what you feel you have to.

the waivers thing with MATT CULLEN is that you were trading them a roster player where they would have to send someone down and they dont have anyone up who is a 2way who doesnt have to clear waivers.

The thing about having to send Matt Cullen down is that you are sending them an NHL player and taking a non NHL player from them therefore having too many NHL players so they would have to send them on waivers, it was there in NHL14 btw.

With the vancouver Canucks when it said Markstrom would go to waivers, it was because you were sending Dubnyk to them when they already had Miller, Lack and Markstrom!
@ThaAngelus19 жыл бұрын
I like that new feature. If a team has three goalies over 80 ovr, you can't trade them another NHL-goalie simply because they would be forced to put a "too good" one on waivers. Kinda makes the trading more realistic that you just can't throw spare parts at another team if it's player they dont need at all.
@chrisormie9 жыл бұрын
The message relates to the fact that they have a full roster in the positions you are trying to send them players (ie Dubnyk forcing Markstrom to waivers). They already have 3 goalies on the roster they would need to clear waivers, you sending them a fourth means they'll lose one for free (in most cases). Try changing the players you are sending them or at least trade like for like in terms of roster spots, then that message will not show up as often (or hopefully at all!).

1. Tank for McDavid this year 2. Use two or three of your four 2nd round picks as well as Doan to get another high first round pick 3. Trade Mike Smith (and picks/players if necessary) at the draft for the 2nd overall pick 4. Use the first two picks to draft McDavid and Eichel, setting up a sweet Domi, Perlini, McDavid and Eichel forward core for the next 10+ years 5. Use your other first round pick to draft a stud defenseman to play with OEL, Gormley and Schlemko

Here's how I'm interpreting the Cullen thing: They would have too many players on the roster and would have to move Cullen down. You'd need the same number of 1-way contracts being exchanged, or taking on more 1-way contracts than them in the trade so they wouldn't be forced to move someone (Cullen in this case) down and subject him to waivers.
@mihmom9 жыл бұрын
The waiver thing means that should the trade go through the team would have too many players with 1-way contracts. The player stated would be put on waivers and some other team would claim him. So if the message pops up, you should get one roster player from the other team.
@longliverocknroll59 жыл бұрын

The reason you couldn't do the Vancouver trade with the goal tender was because they need to have 2 AHL goalies listed. You were taking an AHL goalie which then would need Markstrom to replace him through waivers.

@timometsanoja96669 жыл бұрын
It is the whole one way/two way contract thing. Basically the teams have too many players on the one way contracts and thus would have to put someone to the waiver list. That is the reason. This is basically blocking just trading 3-4 guys for a single guy... And that is a good thing. I wouldn't want to see trades that basically get you the best players and have the other team putting players on the waiver list, basically making the trade very unbalanced.
