This game heavily favors the players that play it like a full-time job and/or spend a ton of money on it, and many streamers/youtubers, excluding yourself, ignore this. The game mode is called Hockey Ultimate team, and yet it feels impossible to get the players you actually want for your "Ultimate Team." Of course, you can play the market to get the coins for the players you want, but I play NHL because I want to play hockey not because I want to do the video game equivalent of ticket scalping. This game needs to reward those who play it without making the player have to spend money or play an unrealistic number of hours a week. Also, why were there no loyalty packs? This may be a minor complaint compared to the numerous other issues, but I think it is indicative of a larger problem with EA: They do not give a single shit about their player base.

I agree with you for the most part, I like the gameplay but like you said, it just fucks me. If my team played the way they should I wouldn't have very many complaints about gameplay. Rewards are garbage and have been for a long time so no surprise there. As far as controls go, just play using the skill stick.

Hence, I want to say you are an incredibly talented person, and your videos have been a cut above other streamers. You get right to the core of the issue, and you base your advice on facts and not on emotion. You are really smart. For example, your market advice was 100% opposite the other youtubers and you were right and they were wrong. Hence is 100% correct here. I am an average player who played hockey years ago so I love the sport. I think the flaws result from (1) they completely redesigned the engine for control because of complaints they had not changed the game in years. (2) the system they have created is flawed as they did not have time to test it. (3) they removed and changed the old control system, skill stick, to force you to use total control. (4) the controllers we use are not precise, they wear out in weeks and months and it is impossible to replicate what EA says you can do. They base all those buttons on a precise instrument and Sony and MS sells cheap controllers. (4) when you give us players with dumbed down skills, as every game does, at the beginning, the new method of playing does not work with players with lousy skills. (5) The entire EA just cares about pushing players into spending money and this system does not appropriately reward normal game play. I will miss you but I will back down playing because I think you are 100% right. I have been playing a lot and it is not even enough to keep up with all the collectibles and objectives they have built into it. Hope to see you back here on another platform.

First & foremost thank you so much for making this video. I've subscribed to you & please keep exposing EA. Im currently still playing my EA Play trial & this will be the first year in year's ive skipped titles. And depending on what they do for NHL 25 for offline player's will depend if i purchase that game either. But I'm done supporting EA and there monopoly. This game is literally the exact same from NHL 20 until now with minor tweaks to certain things its virtually the same. The flex cam looks absolutely terrible & the control's are terrible as well. The pressure system would of been a great addition had they reworked the A.I to begin cyling the puck in the offensive and defensive zones but i guess they didn't think so. The goalies this year in my opinion are terrible as well they act like fish out of water the moment certain passes are sent. Like the bottom line with this game alot of it is lack of care & poor attention to detail. The refs movements haven't been upgraded in forever. The hitting is pretty glitchy as well & just like you it's pretty hard to land a hit. This game is lack luster & been lack luster for a long time & the bigger youtubers like nasher & nosleeves are now in my eye's under EA's pay roll & even there having to say something because the game is so bad as a 2 way defensemen EA has constantly armed the offensive side of the puck but constantly strip the defense. But keep exposing them and hopefully we can make a change by exposing them and not purchasing upcoming title's until we see a true change to these game mode's not just the game play even though that needs ALOT of work as well

Yeah nah. I was competitive in NHL back in like NHL 17 ERA. Finished top 10 in the very first 10K tourney worldwide only like a few North Americans, I tried NHL 24 and just refunded it after a few games. I won every game but I realized I had to basically let the AI play for me and just control little bits of the game and flicking shots was more beneficial than setting up. I used to get pissed off like this but the recent years in NHL just haven’t been worth playing. I switched to FPS games and not going back to that shit.

Amen Bro, Ive been a huge chel fan but just this year I started playing madden 24 and MUT is Miles and miles and miles better than HUT. So much easier to accumulate coins, the field pass is filled with amazing rewards so you can still have a competitive team without spending money, the content from the cards to objectives to the pack animation is so engaging and fun. NHL 23 had its gameplay issues & content and rewards are just embarrassing again comparing it to MUT but NHL 24 sucks I fucking hate this game too. The worse thing about the online gameplay is the force cross creasing. I don’t think that’s ever gonna get fix. Ai penalties are tough, but I’m an offline player so it doesn’t affect me too much. There’s too many ppl who play the game dude. That’s why when u play 25 games of Rivals, it feels like u haven’t played enough and that’s when it feels like a job. Hitting is a we bit tough. Got this game for free on PS plus last month. I really wish I hadn't. Managed to get a 91 overall team in a week, yeah, but they can't score on a 78 goalie with no energy half the time. I had a game where I had 30 shots and no goals against the cpu. They took 5 shots and got 1 in. I'm getting interference penalties for skating into other players. The AI trips players hits them for boarding penalties. I hold L1 to block shots, and the cpu runs over my stick and trips for a penalty. I try one poke check, tripping penalty. I even got a slashing penalty for taking a wrister, and the stick brushed against a player. I've loved hockey games since NHLPA 93 on sega genesis. NHL 07 was the last one I played until now. It's so sad how the older games are more enjoyable than these modern-day overcomplicated cash grab bs sports games from EA and 2K.

I feel your conviction and I am sad you spent your hard earned money on this. I've been playing since '92. The games really starte to decline around 15. A if not THE problem is, the game is being engineered by individuals whom do not really know the game of hockey. They are just using general rules that essentially have it so that you must learn to play "their game" vs actually hockey. I hope you get a refund and I am glad I have not purchased it again this year.

It's funny because I actually set up some of the older NHL games like 22 and 20 to have corrected agility and take a little longer to get moving... it looks about the same as this years game. The gameplay looks exactly the same, the AI sucks as usual and there are nothing but wiffs on most of the stick checks. It's the exact same game year to year, and they're just marketing it differently.

In order for them to truly fix these games moving forward they have to actually understand hockey and how the game operates. Opposing teams don’t use body and hip checks as their only means of playing defense. Also, the AI is way too aggressive and often times erratic. Your AI teammates don’t move effectively to create realistic scoring chances, and goalies become liabilities no matter how high their rating is. Jake Oettinger is a great goalie, so there’s no reason why my defensemen have to worker harder to supplement a Vezina caliber goaltender in order to keep him from getting lit up by fluke goals and glitchy rebounds. They also need to go and really study how hockey players move on the ice. Once they overhaul those things I will support EA. Until then they can fly a kite.

Professional goalies are hard to score on but the problem I have is that one guy has a God goalie (especially when it's a freaking girl or just lower level) and the other goalie lets everything in.

😅 full pressure system tho good in theory is an absolute debacle. Penalties with AI players is crazy how many they take. Total controls basically makes it easy mode taking away the skill gap players had with the skill stick who put in the time, the 1 button dekes to do zegars moves is wild with the efficiency it goes in with.. however having said all that alot of these clips you're getting upset over looks like a skill issue, no disrespect intended.

Love this video. When I say this game sucks this is what I mean. I bought the disc version of 24 and actually snapped it in half and threw it away. You’d think I was losing but I actually won 6 games in a row and I was just so pissed how terrible the gameplay is. I’m in my twenty’s and I’ve only owned hockey games. I’ve never played other sports games or call of duty and the list goes on. I’m officially done with this garbage game and selling my console because I know it will never change. It’s sad but I’m so done with EAs game that was fun before Covid but just has gotten worse every year it is released.

Intermittent variable rewards man. If you buy a pack, will you get a good card? And if so, how good? Same thing that gets people hooked to slots, EA using it to get people to buy packs. I've been playing NHL every year since 92. 2020 was my first time trying HUT. I thought it was cool that if I could get a Mario card if I saved up enough icon collectables throughout the whole season. Every year since, the rewards have declined sharply. It became too much last year, and decided not to buy this year. Looks like I'll be going back to my be a pro season in 22. Excellent rant, glad to see I made the right choice. I sware the whole system of defence is manipulate by ur controller inputs. Like the amount of times I’ve gone down the ice to make a move and 3 of there defenders will come and crush me. Then I’ll line a perfect hit up and last second the ai makes the most amazing deke ever. The goalies too. I have a 87 Patrick Roy and I lose most my games to teams with a gold 80 over all goalie. Then I’ll play a team that’s 88 overall and I’ll win 5-1 but I’ll play a team that 76 over all and lose 3-1

I love seeing this energy. This game sux. Something you didn’t mention tho, why in the actual F**K did they mess with skill stick? The L3 thing is garbage, and even tho fake shot has ALWAYS BEEN R3, my guys all of a sudden do a fake shot this year every time I try to shoot or stick handle. I literally changed button assignments on my controller to change R3 to up on the dpad just for that, and switched to total controls so I don’t lose hip checks, but now every time I shoot the strategies pop up, and puck chops are awkward. I shouldn’t have to change my button assignments to play the game

My kids just got me the game for christmas. Ive been playing since NHL 2014. I just tried my christmas gift for the first time and was litterally yelling the same exact things at the TV you are saying in this video. I hate it so much. I tried 6 different games and was down 3 to 4 zip 5 minutes in to the 1st 5 to 6 penalites and ZERO face off wins. NEVER did any of this happen prior editions. Hitting is completey LAME all of a sudden. Im returning NHL 24 and staying with NHL 23, screw you EA this is horrible.

Honestly since I’ve made this video my stance on the game has changed a bit. I actually really like hitting now but it’s a huge learning curve. Once you learn it, it’s super rewarding. The shit goals still go in a lot but with the changes to full pressure it happens less so than before. It’s also a lot easier to score now once you get used to the game and how it plays. Honestly I’d say give it another go, it’s far from perfect, but it’s a hell of a lot better than 23 and 22.

Let alone those magical CPU goalie saves and litterally impossible goals, my guys get the puck taken away the second they get it on the stick, CPU skates around everyone and absorbes hits and keeps going, penalties every shift on my guys, none on the CPU...

2k needs to make a hockey game , they dont even have to put real teams , just fake teams and make it as sim as possible , people will buy it over EA's shitty arcade interpretation of hockey...2k released the best sim football game and still is the best football game till this day all pro football 2k8...that game had fake teams but it dont matter the gameplay was simulation football, i will take a sim hockey game with fake teams over an arcady hockey game with real teams anyday of the week

its the goalies the other team gets a low shot and my goalie dives out of the way and the other goalie is a brick wall when i get 67 shots on net there all good shots and they beat me 14 0 with 19 shots its rediculus
