Johnny ive been a loyal fan since NHL 12, and I still don’t understand why you NEVER go all out for ELITE ELITE superstars when they’re available in free agency. Every time you go against a good playoff team you shit your pants when you see 92-93-94-95 OVR players, yet when you have the chance to get them for FREEEEEEEEE, you hesitate. Yes I agree it’s a burden to carry that big contract but at least you’ll have a SUPERSTARRRR!!! Something you have always wanted to have. If it doesn’t work out, you flip him for 2 good players, or some other elite prospect.

Hey Johnny, I think you should look across the AHL for younger players that shoot the puck a lot to find your sniper. Similar to what you did with Jakob Forsbacka Karlsson a few years back. I think it would be a great way to fill that sniper role you are looking for.

GM Superbman, This post comes with all due respect to the fact that I've been watching your GM modes since NHL12 and that I'm 28 still geeking over your content lol but c'mon man... During the regular season you were wanting a shooting forward badly (*cough cough* a Miko Rantanen type player) and now that he's available in Free Agency you don't try harder to get him? It's so rare to see a guy like him land in Free Agency, let alone a player that was on the team you could only score ONE goal in the playoffs too.. (I get it's Colorado, but ONE GOAL? LOL). It's not like he's one of those RFA players you would have to give up your next 4 year 1st round picks for. You have 3 similar players in your top 6 in Keller, Cooley and Macelli, why not trade Macelli (who doesn't have the best chemistry on your team) for a Defensive Defensemen who can fit in your lineup now and also play along side Kurtz when he grows instead of signing Chychrun? (Keller Schmaltz Rantanen) line 1 and (Guenther Cooley Crouse) would be a sick top 6 forward core. You also extend Cooley to a 6 year deal worth less money to afford that Rantanen deal. I was buzzing watching this video because I was like "JUST SIGN AND GET HIM". That would have been a fun playoff run, but maybe Dante Fabbro would become the true sniper that series. ;) Best, A big fan, Kevin

It makes no sense. He complains he doesn't have a superstar player, and stares one in the face but basically throws in the towel without making a competitive offer. He wouldn't be able to re-sign his guys? Who cares, none of the top players on this team will ever be as good as Rantanen will be for the ENTIRETY of the contract he would have had to give. He could have easily traded one of the top six guys he's going to waste money on now for an elite defensive prospect and paid Rantanen in the meantime. A majorly foolish decision.

The most important and main attribute for your Associate/Assistant coach’s are the PP & PK stat. The associate coach is essentially your forwards coach (PP coach) so you want him to have A+ PP. everything else is irrelevant. (Sounds dumb but trust me) You want an A+ PK for your Assistant coach as he’s your defensive coach. (PK coach) They have no effect 5v5. The coach’s you have now aren’t bad, but something to look at in the future

-Sign Cooley 7x9mil -Fire the coach and get the first one you looked at -Keep Kurtz in the AHL for one year but on the first line. But make sure you can get +5 chemistry for him and Gonchar -Ditch Kesselring and bring up the defenseman you just signed

MACCELLI WAS THE GOAT FOR ME IN NHL 23! I was doing a seattle kraken franchise mode, and i got him in a steal of a trade (trade deadline year 1), and then he helped us squeeze in to the playoffs and then popped off winning the conn smythe and helping us win Lord Stanley. I made him the captain season 2 lol.

At this point, Kurtz can be great on 1st Defensive pairing in NHL, that way you work for a depth defensive core that has options on ALL lines. Putting Kurtz down will make the young lad annoyed as he was considered NHL ready. It can also be an test for 1 month, try it for 10/12 games, so you see what happens and if anything, move Kurtz then to AHL then, but if it works, higher level of play will make him ready for NHL much faster.

i would lock up cooley for 6 years @ 9mil, maccelli for 4 years @ 6mil, and doan long term now before the season...youre going to have a good season, and they are going to want more later...suck it up and bite the bullet now...my 2 cents but, id look into trading swayman, his contract is getting too expensive, and you can find another goalie to have success with that's cheaper (we know the ea voodoo with goalies, especially with high overalls, save that money for somewhere else)

Johnny, 29:50 when you’re looking at scouts to hire, hire the highest overall ones, no matter what, it takes them a year to 2 years max to become an A+ in any region. Their underlying scouting stats on the third page are so much better than the B- scouts Then when you got Chychrun, the Senators traded the coyotes a first-round pick in 2023, a second-round pick in 2024 and a second-round selection in 2026 for Chychrun on march 1 of 2023 so they got him for a year, you made that second round, got him back, still have a second rounder coming back Lmao

Johnny important information about goalie in playoffs: I noticed that even though goalie fatigue is not in the game -I still think it is. If i made the playoffs, I always make sure, that my starting goalie is not playing the last 3 games of the season, so he is rested. The same in the playoffs: If i notice him playing 2 bad games in a row, I put in my backup and then switch it back. My starting goalie is all of a sudden playing like a beast and sometimes even gets a shutout in the next game.

You have a decision to make in the AHL. A defensive head coach will grow Kurtz more while a forward coach will grow Gonchar and Nabokov more. A generalist will grow both but not as much as a specialist coach will. Scheme fit and teaching also play a huge role in this

Always good to extend medium elite or better players to long term deals asap as their contract prices jump exponentially year to year. For example Gunther is a first line soon to be 90 ovr for 5 mil a year because you extended early where as if you waited he’d be much closer to 7 mil. As far as Cooley goes I would lock him down as he’s the 1C of the future being 87 ovr at 21 years old he’s going to grow for sure especially with top 9 minutes.

Im not sure if you like to play like this but one way I found out how to sign players to the lowest amount they'll take during extensions is take what they ask for and multiply it by 0.85. For example: Maccelli is asking for $6,600,000 for 4 years. If you take the $6,600,000 and multiply it by 0.85 you get $5,610,000 so you would then sign him for the next highest you could get so in NHL it would be $5,625,000 for 4 Years! That's how I always work the extensions on NHL GM Mode but that does not work in Free Agency or Resigning players after the draft so note that!

I usually do 85% rule but even that sometimes doesn’t work. I’ve had players want an extension but the 85% rule even a 90% offer didn’t work on them. Sometimes if it’s a player I really wanna keep but they don’t want an extension a 90% offer won’t work it sucks cause ea killed trade values in this game so trading him for something decent usually draft picks is a pain in the ass and I hate losing guys for nothing.

I'd keep Kurtz first pairing AHL for his first year. Can always shift gears if he doesn't develop at all within the first few months. Also, I vote Colonel Kurtz as the nickname (character in Apocalypse Now played by Marlon Brando).

You should bring up Fleury and send down Kurtz. Fleury can be scratched in the nhl and not go down in overall so kurtz can develop on a first power play unit and first pair in Tucson. Then. If kurtz grows you could bring him up next year and give him second or even first power play time and play on the second or third pair. You could even send down knyzhov with him to play on the first pair in Tucson

Still think the forward core is lacking a real shooter... 1 goal in 4 playoff games is NOT good enough. I predict another 1st round exit looming, not enough done from GM Superbman in FA to improve a forward core that scored 1 playoff goal. Rants was exactly what the team was missing, a superstar and elite sniper but GM Superbman let him slip through his fingers. Chychrun was a great signing but not what the team needed to make the next step. Poor from Superbman here
