Hey Neil, thanks so much for taking the time to rank these. My Instagram is @greatdainedesign for those who are interested. I also thought I’d include my inspiration for each of the jerseys to help clear things up for everyone. Anaheim Ducks: Inspired by Orange County. It has an orange base and a gold sun on the front like the Orange County flag. The main logo is a simplified version of the Mighty Ducks logo, to represent Disneyland. Lastly, the 7 palm trees on the inside collar pays homage to the teams 2007 Stanley Cup. Arizona Coyotes: Inspired by the Sonoran Desert. Uses a pattern that resembles sedimentary rock layers. Also, has a desert skyline with cactuses on the inside collar. Boston Bruins: Inspired by the Freedom Trail. Main Logo resembles the marker from the trail and the inside collar features the opening line of the Mayflower Compact. Buffalo Sabres: Inspired by the Blizzard of 1977. Features a snowstorm pattern in the background. Also, the inside collar draws from the city flag. Calgary Flames: Inspired by the Calgary Fire Department, with the same striping as their uniforms, and a modified version of their logo as the crest. The shoulders have the logo from the City flag. Lastly, the inside collar reads “1886”, a nod to the Great Calgary Fire. Carolina Hurricanes: Inspired by the City of Oaks, Raleigh. Features an Oak Wood pattern in the background, and the City and State flags on the shoulders. Also, the 6 oak trees on the inside collar pay homage to the teams 2006 Stanley Cup victory. Chicago Blackhawks: Inspired by the City flag. Uses the same color palette and striping pattern as the flag. Also, the city skyline is featured on the inside collar. Colorado Avalanche: Inspired by the Mile High City. Uses the same white stripe and ‘C’ as the state flag, but in team colors. Also, a mountain pattern lines the bottom on the jersey, and the inside collar has the elevation of the city. Columbus Blue Jackets: Inspired by the Civil War. Uses the same colors as the Union Soldiers, as well as a wartime font. The striping in the sleeves resembles Chevrons. Also, the main logo is a simplified version of the teams cannon logo, and the shoulder patches feature a Union Soldier hat. Dallas Stars: Inspired by the street art that appears throughout the city. Uses a graffiti font and a more vibrant shade of green. Also, a recolored version of the team logo appears on the shoulders. Detroit Red Wings: Inspired by the Automotive Industry. Features the teams modernized English D logo, as well as racing stripes down the front and the sleeves. Edmonton Oilers: Inspired by the Oil Industry. Uses an oil color for the base, and logos from the teams past that represent the industry. Also, the striping is made to resemble oil towers. Florida Panthers: Inspired by the television series “Miami Vice”. Uses a color palette and font inspired by the show. Los Angeles Kings: Inspired by Hollywood. The lion, crown and suns are drawn from the teams old logo, and represent the prosperity of the area. The color scheme also adds to this theme. Lastly, the Hollywood sign is featured on the inside collar. Minnesota Wild: Inspired by the northern lights, which can be seen in the northern part of the state. The lights are used as the base for the jersey, with a tree pattern along the bottom. Montreal Canadiens: Inspired by the City flag. Features the Red Cross and symbols from the flag. Also, the “Les Habitants” crest pays homage to the large French population in the city. Nashville Predators: Inspired by Country Music. The neck of a guitar crosses the front of the jersey, and a piano pattern lines the inside collar. Also, the three stars from the state flag appear on the sleeve. New Jersey Devils: Inspired by Brick City, Newark. Uses a red brick pattern on the sleeves and torso, and features the state of New Jersey on the shoulders. New York Islanders: Inspired by Long Island. Uses the teams fisherman and lighthouse logos, as well as an aqua color and wave pattern to symbolize the aquatic terrain. Also, the 4 stripes within the wave pattern represents the teams 4 Stanley Cups. New York Rangers: Inspired by the Big Apple. Features the city skyline in the background of both the torso and sleeves. Also, the crest is a modified version of the city’s subway sign, and the shoulders feature a simplified version of the Lady Liberty logo. Ottawa Senators: Inspired by the city flag. The split in colors down the center of the jersey resembles that of the flag, and the main logo features the Peace Tower. Philadelphia Flyers: Inspired by the historical value of the city. Uses a cream color to represent the Declaration of Independence. The sleeves/shoulders feature 13 stripes and the inside collar has the 13 stars from the Betsy Ross flag. Also, the main logo is the liberty bell. Pittsburgh Penguins: Inspired by the many bridges from the city. Uses a steel grey color to represent the Steel City, and a gold bridge pattern. Also, the inside collar features 3 stars, which represent the 3 materials used to produce steel. San Jose Sharks: Inspired by Silicon Valley. Uses a circuit board pattern throughout the jersey. Also, on inside collar is the teams slogan, printed using the Python programming language. Seattle Kraken: Inspired by the Pacific Ocean. This two-tone Jersey makes use of a dark and light blue gradient on the sleeves and chest, to match that of the ocean. Also, the inside collar has the city skyline. St. Louis Blues: Inspired by the Gateway Arch. A silhouette of the arch spans across the torso and down the sleeves, and the inside collar reads “Gateway to the West”. Tampa Bay Lightning: Inspired by the many storms in the area. Features a dark, cloudy pattern in the background, with realistic lightning bolts. Also, the logos and numbers have an electric feel to them. Toronto Maple Leafs: Inspired by Drake’s OVO Sound. The overall design of the jersey resembles the Toronto Raptors City Edition Jersey. Also, the main logo is an altered version of the Toronto Arenas logo, incorporating the CN tower. Vancouver Canucks: Inspired by the Lumber Industry. Uses a flannel pattern in team colors, to pay homage to the Lumberjacks of the area. The main logo was also chosen for this reason. Lastly, the inside collar reads “We Are All Canucks”, which pays respect to the city’s roots. Vegas Golden Knights: Inspired by the Sin City. The black base represents the nightlife of the city. Also, the main and shoulder logos have been given a neon effect, much like the bright lights on the strip. Lastly, the 4 playing card suits within the stripes, and the 3 seven’s on the inside collar represent the many casino’s in town. Washington Capitals: Inspired by the District of Columbia. The sleeves feature the flag. Also, there is a city skyline with historical landmarks along the bottom of the jersey, which has been recolored to match the change in colors on the Washington Monument. Winnipeg Jets: Inspired by the Esplanade Riel Footbridge. A silhouette of the bridge emerges from the bottom of the jersey. Also, the shoulder logo comes from the Winnipeg sign, a landmark of the city.

I've seen most jersey concepts on here, and sometimes it gets a bit "meh" because many looks like the team's current jersey (with very few major/bold changes). This concept has such a definitive theme and I really appreciate reading your inspiration behind them all. So, commenting on the jerseys themselves. Obviously, I don't like them all. No-one can like everyone, so no disrespect in that regard. In a "City edition" concept series, I totally understand using the city flag for Chicago, though I have never understood the fascination of those colours in any concepts. The Rangers metro symbols are genious in a concept like this. My top 5 favourites, in no particular order: Vegas (card suits), Tampa Bay, Minnesota (excellent idea with the northern lights), Philadelphia (liberty bell) and Calgary. Overall, well done!

These are INCREDIBLE Daine! I love all the different textures you used for the backgrounds of these jerseys (like the Wild, Vancouver, and bolts). You were able to keep a really great balance with out making them look overworked, they were very very thoughtful. They would also make epic soccer goalie jerseys too. I think the Wild is my favorite out of all of them!

For the kraken one, I agree with your analysis regarding the fog. I personally would be curious to see the colors inverted - as the rationale for the colors was actually the gradient between the sky, mountains, and water, it should by all accounts have the lighter colors on the top. Still a brilliant jersey (and yes Seattle does sometimes get fog, though mostly mist), but maybe as an away concept the colors could be reversed.

I’m gonna get flamed by other wings fans, but I like that jersey. Don’t love the D everyone uses for jersey concepts because I prefer the more detailed olde English D, but the striping is car racing stripes and I think it’s great. Every jersey having something inside the collar is such a nice touch (the piano keys for Nashville and the 777 for vegas 😍). The Washington monument being the middle of the W for Washington 😙👌🏻

Hey Neil and fellow committee members, here's my take: BUFFALO: That definitely screams "Winter Classic Jersey" to me. And I can confirm that 40cm equals 16 inches. NEW JERSEY: I like the logo and the black jersey, but the brick motifs are a bit much. VANCOUVER: Why do I hear The Lumberjack Song whenever I see this jersey? EDMONTON: I've always said that their orange uniforms look line Irn-Bru tributes, and this concept confirms that it was made in Scotland - FROM GIRDERS!!! DALLAS: The jersey is fine, but I don't like the font DETROIT: The striping looks reminiscent of a Shelby Mustang paint job PHILADELPHIA: I like the Liberty Bell logo, to make it a little bit like the normal Flyers logo LOS ANGELES: The sun logos are too distracting, and the lion has virtually no impact on me, I'm afraid to say NY RANGERS: Quite interesting to use the Subway pictograms for this concept ANAHEIM: The Wild Wing head is a bit off centre, but overall I like it CHICAGO: Perhaps this would have been better used on a white jersey ARIZONA: I'd have used a wordmark rather than any of the logos to better suit the jersey MONTREAL: Interesting concept to use what is essentially a St George's flag prominently on the jersey... CAROLINA: This could do with a cleaner look PITTSBURGH: The dark grey is great, I'd like to see this concept on a yellow jersey SEATTLE: I'd love them to use this as an alternate OTTAWA: It looks to me like an old Blackburn Rovers away shirt with added gold striping MINNESOTA: This is really bold, using an Aurora Borealis look all over the jersey. The tree striping gets my vote ST LOUIS: This is simple and timeless. A winner from me, if you can sort out the C placement NY ISLANDERS: I'd use the existing logo, as opposed to the fisherman look BOSTON: there's historic precedent with the Bruins using brown as their dark colour, I think the Hershey Bears would like this as an alternate TORONTO: The black and gold is used well, but I'm intrigued as to what it would look in blue and white TAMPA BAY: Now what would this jersey look if the logos and wordmark actually did glow in the dark? CALGARY: This jersey looks rather cool WINNIPEG: Good jersey, the current logo complements it better than the retro logos COLUMBUS: Good and simple jersey, but hasn't the cannon been used to death? NASHVILLE: There had to be a Music City reference somewhere, and this is used rather well VEGAS: It had to happen, obvious gambling and neon city references WASHINGTON: This is well done. Have you noticed that the middle part of the W in the logo looks a little bit like the Washington Monument obelisk? SAN JOSE: This could potentially be an actual alternate redesign in the making FLORIDA: Another great jersey that could yet benefit from it being glow-in-the-dark COLORADO: Although this is a consensus choice, it's a good consensus choice. Love the midnight blue with Gotham's skyline for the New York Rangers, though the "Y" ought to have been another color (yellow or grey). Chicago is a fabulous city but the City Jersey needs some black for the Black Hawks. Please add some colors (blue, magenta, green) to the Montreal City flag and its application attempt to the Canadiens City Jersey! "We the North" chevron looks out of place on the Toronto Maple Leafs City Jersey. Great work, Daine!

I like most of these jerseys when you explain why they used something because it relates to the city. I don't get a few of them. Take Detroit for example. What on that jersey other than the D is representative of the city? It's the Motor City or Motown, surely something could have been done instead of two vertical stripes.

As sead it is based on The Montreal City Flag but extremely poorly thought out as it is missing many key elements on of The Montreal City flag & would not see that jersey going down well at all with the people of Quebec.
