The Oilers never tried to change their logo, the other logo was just a 3rd jersey designed by Todd McFarlane who is a huge Oilers fan and was actually one of the owners of the Oilers before Katz bought the team.

For the Isles’ logo, the blue on the island does in fact show where the Nassau Coliseum is, as well as the “Y” clearly being a hockey stick. The four bands on the stick represent their four straight cups in the 80s.

A note on the Islanders logo: the shape of the island, at least in the logo at 10:45, excludes Queens and Brooklyn. Only Nassau and Suffolk counties to the east of Queens-Brooklyn are included. I just checked the team logo on the Islanders website, and even with the fleeting move to Brooklyn, it's still Nassau and Suffolk on the logo. The top of the "I" in Islanders, then, is placed roughly where the Nassau Coliseum is.Rankings here I had some trouble with, though these are all subjective judgments. The top choices are fine, but classics like the logos of the Sabres, Blackhawks, and Penguins trail behind and should certainly go ahead of the webbed foot of the Anaheim Ducks. Just my preferences, of course. One person out of many. I'm an Islanders fan, but their logo fell about where it should.

As other people mentioned the I in Islanders does in fact point to the location of Uniondale where Nassau Coliseum was. Brent's confusion is somewhat understandable -- the depiction of long Island shown on the Islanders logo does not actually include all of long island, but rather only shows Nassau and Suffolk counties, and omits the NYC portion consisting of Brooklyn and Queens, which of course is ironically where the Islanders now play.

The flyers logo does indeed have the wings on the side and then if you look closely. The rest is a "P" for Philadelphia if you look up the Philadelphia Phillips old logo it looks like that but a different color.

Roman generals wore such helmets - and were dressed for battle (of course). And, especially in the Republic times, the generals were senators. Julius Caesar was a senator (and a consul). So was Pompei. So yes, senators DID look like that. Also, centurions DID NOT look like that. Centurions had helmets with a transverse crest.
