Tonight from Madison Square Garden in New York, Henrik Lundqvist leads the Rangers into battle against Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin and the Pittsburgh Penguins. Good evening I'm Gary Thorne along with Bill Clement. The Rangers are riding high on a six game winning streak, averaging five goals a game. The Penguins meanwhile have won four of six, with Marc Andre Fleury recording three shutouts in that span. Bill: That's right Gary, and the key tonight for both teams is to stay out of the penalty box. The Penguins have the 4th best power play in the league and the Rangers are right behind in 5th.

Honestly, it's between a cup of piss and a turd sandwich; ESPN's commentators never shut up and called the game, and NBC's don't either, although honestly, I got spoiled by Jim Jackson, Steve Coates, and Keith Jones/Gary Dornhoeffer, who never yapped too long, and got to calling the game the minute the puck dropped. I'd sooner let Fox have it back, even with the stupid FoxTrax puck scanning silliness, it's still miles and bounds better than anything ESPN, ABC, or NBC could put together.

When Tampa Bay debuted in 1992, they were originally in the Norris Division in the Campbell Conference (similar to the Buccaneers competing in the NFC Cental) to make the divisions all even (Ottawa was in the Adams Division in the Wales Conference at the time). When the NHL replaced the two conferences with the current conferences in 1993, Tampa Bay moved to the Eastern Conference and still remain there today (Tampa Bay was originally in the original Atlantic Division with then-expansion team Florida, then moved to and formed the Southeast Division and then moved to their current division the new Atlantic Division (along with Florida)). Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Tampa Bay played in the Central Division for only one season in 2021 (while the Eastern and Western conferences were inactive for only one season due to travel restrictions amid the pandemic).
