He just keeps scoring. He's a better scorer than Gretzky. Gretzky's league averaged over a goal a game more, and was in an Era without the salary cap. He never would've put up those numbers nowadays. Ovechkin though? He's still putting the numbers up. I'm a pens fan. Whether you'll admit it or not, Ovechkin is the best scorer of all time, behind only maybe Lemieux.

Don’t forget Mika Zibanejad tied an NHL record for points in a period with 6 he also scored a natural Hat-Trick and all the goals were at different strengths. Oh and the score could’ve been a lot worse if you considered that 7 of the 9 goals were scored in the second period! Wow!

Hats off to Ovechkin. 🏒🏒🏒 I remember the season when Esposito hit his 700th goal... He was the only the second to do it behind Gordie Howe, and they were playing without helmets, against 12-inch goalie pads back then! lifelong Black & Gold throwing respect to Ovechkin.

Ovechkin has had many obstacles thrown his way, lockouts, covid 19, the climb has become more daunting but I wouldn't count him out, just yet, tonight he scored 2 goals against the Rangers from Phil Esposito's office, so as long as he keeps that shot on the powerplay and he's willing to adapt like the aforementioned goals tonight from the crease, you never know and of course staying away from injuries, Ovie has been very durable during career, he hasn't lost many games to injury.

To answer your question on Georgiev, we(goalies) do a ton of split stretches for that kinda reason haha! At least that's how I was trained, although you're right. The human body, especially the male human body, isn't suppose to stretch like that without tearing something. I don't even understand on a biological level how we don't rip and tear more body parts with some of the moves we have to do in order to make saved. Lots of cardio and stretching I guess lol

I will be pleasantly surprised if Ovie catches Gretzky. Age will catch up to everyone. Even if he doesn’t beat his record, Ovie is still the greatest goal scorer ever. The goalies of today are on a different level compared to the goalies of Gretzky’s era.

Not to that extreme of a degree. 3.8 v 2.8, plus you're ignoring Gretzky's dominance over his peers. Ovechkins dominance over his peers is not even close. Where are the other 90 goal scorers? Plus he was putting up huge assists at the same time, and killing penalties, something the princesses of today don't do. Ovechkin is a little better than Mike Bossy, which is huge praise.

It’s dependent on how the next two seasons go. If Ovi ends this season with like 735 total or so, and if he gets like 90 or so in the next two seasons, he’s got it in the bag I feel that if he gets into 830 goals, he’ll go until he gets it. It’s inevitable after that.

ovi probably will score more goals. Gretzky said he didn't want to keep playing because he couldn't play at the level he was accustomed to playing at. He was still playing at a good level but it wasn't his level so #99 retired in 1999 (perfect number to retire at) Ovi will hang on until he gets the record. He says he'll only play for the caps, if he needs to get record, i believe he'll do it with another team if he has to

Ovi will probably end the season tied with Dionne needing 163 goals. He needs to play at least 5 more seasons averaging 32 goals to catch 99 - maybe even 7 seasons if production dips. HIs production is better than 99 at the same age but that is a huge, huge number. 99 was great but it's a different era. Compare Ovi to any other active player he is so far ahead it's simply sick.

I watched a few of those Avs games, and I can’t help but think that they were getting home cooking from the score keeper. Anything near the opponents net was a shot, yet opponents’ shots seemed to be under more scrutiny. I thought it was odd at the time. The Avs for the most part outplayed their opponents, but not in the dominating way the score sheet showed.

I hope Ovi takes first place, but I wouldn't bet on it. He's 178 goals off Gretzky, and at his career average pace that's almost 300 more games. He'd need to be getting 50+ goal seasons at 40+ years of age. I think it's more likely he ends up in second.
