I will continue to remember Montreal as the team that has done nothing in over 3 decades. Memorable indeed. LMFAO. Imagine clinging to a team that hasn't been the same since the 70s when they had Ken Dryden and other mega HOFers. So tell me, since the 70s, the Canadiens have won, what, 2 cups? 2 cups in 40 plus years. You cant pretend the Canadiens are being remembered by most fans that were born after the 90s, for any thing other than being a mediocre team that couldnt get it done this century even once.

"Montreal won't be remembered for much for a long time..." I know of two unbreakable records that the Habs set in my lifetime. The first was in 1993 when they won TEN CONSECUTIVE playoff overtime games (they had 11 in total that year but lost the first to the Quebec Nordiques). The second was in 2021 when they became the only team in NHL history to win the conference championship trophy despite never having been in that conference. The Canadiens have always been an Eastern/Wales Conference team and they won the Campbell Bowl in 2021 while STILL being an Eastern Conference team. Neither of those records will ever be broken and I saw them both being set. I'm kinda lucky that way because there aren't many unbreakable records left.

Cool that Gretzky said it himself. Put Saros, Bobrovsky, Shesterkin or who ever into his era and he wouldn't scored even half of his points. Nothing away from him but it wasn't even the same game back then. He scored 517 pts in a single season (85games) as a teenager, thats just impossible these days even for the top talents.
@Dylligraphy7 ай бұрын
Gretzky is also known for being very modest. If you look at the 1984 scoring leaders it pretty closely resembles 2024 scoring leaders, except with one absurd outlier that had 73 more points than anyone else.
@tseliteiv7 ай бұрын
@@Dylligraphy You can actually take the average number of goals scored by 1 team during Gretzky's prime and adjust it for the lower number of goals scored today. Even if you adjust all of Gretzky's stats downward, he's still on top for almost all of them.
@kentmartin92893 ай бұрын
@@Dylligraphy the most eerily similar comparison I have found is 1986-87 and 2006-07. If you add up the points for the 2nd through 10th highest scorers that year, the sums are identical (and the biggest difference from the same rank is the 2006-07 2nd leading scorer being 6 points ahead of the 2nd leading scorer from 1986-87). The only real difference is that Crosby lead 2006-07 with 120 points (his career best) and Gretzky lead 1986-87 with 183 points (his 6th best of his career).
@jho22554 күн бұрын
