As a sharks fan i agree it was not a 5 minute major. How they were calling the game up to this point (tightly), it's no surprise its a crosscheck and according to the rules an automatic ejection. He fully extended his arms while both skates were planted to the ice. We definitely came out on the positive end of a controversial call. But let's take it back to game 2 where the sharks were negatively on the receiving end of a controversial call that completely changed the momentum of the game. We battled back to a lead just to have it stripped away by, at best, was incidental contact. (especially after watching the bruins leaf allowed goal). Game 7, Eakin (poetically) scores on a controversial call which was a high touch. I agree that by nhl standards its inconclusive but you can see the puck come just under Karlsson head and being 5"11 (6'3+ on skates) simple math will show it was a high touch. Sharks then score 4 goals in 4 minutes on the major penalty of you guessed it, Cody Eakin with just under 11 to go in the 3rd. They made the most of an opportunity they were given just like vegas did in game 2 and early in 7. Calls go poorly and positively for both teams throughout the series, but the sharks just made history with how they handled an opportunity and 1000% deserved this series no matter what anyone says. Absolutely epic.

After that the momentum was on Chicago and they put it away, it was a really close series, Chicago beat a good team. Besides both games took place in a half season so do they even count. jk lol

I believe they gave an incorrect reasoning for the major. That so-called crosscheck was nothingburger -- but the 'pile driving' him into the ice was definitely a major penalty. It looked like more of a combination of an off-balance fall and the momentum of the push after the check that drove him to the ice. But, yes, in the moment... I would have to call a major for that.

It's still on Vegas to kill that penalty, something that you would have figured they could do. There was no indication, up until that point in time, that SJ would score one goal, let alone explode for four goals. Vegas was playing well and had the game in hand. I think that penalty, and losing their captain, really inspired SJ to play with more passion and urgency. Was there luck involved? You bet. I don't know if the officials looked at a reply of the incident. I don't know if that's allowed by the rules. Looking at what happened it was just one of those fluky things - Eakin cross-checked Pavelski, and Stastny finished the job by hitting an off-balance Pavelski, knocking him almost head-first to the ice. The result was worse than the sum of the parts. But, SJ took advantage of the opportunity before them and made it count. Even with all that, Vegas tied it up with less than a minute to go in regulation and it took almost an entire overtime period to settle the game. This is something I had never seen before, and I've been watching hockey for close to 50 years. I live in SJ, so I loved the result. It was a once-in-a-lifetime comeback. I'll never get tired of watching it.

The only penalty that should have been called was CROSS CHECKING. There was no cross check to the head and it wasn't a major penalty but the ref goofed and called it a five minute penalty and a game misconduct. Very bad call which cost the Knights the game and the series. Many players have hit their heads on the ice and have bled. This was the case here. His head obviously hit the ice and that's when the bleeding started. The officials called it wrong but will never admit it. The video review was a laughable process and whoever the videos review person was should be fired. If Gary Bettman lets this go then he should be fired as well.

@@jems390 There should have only been a two minute penalty for the cross check which if you watch any hockey this type of push is an ongoing thing during a face-off. If one loses the face-off they push at the other player. There was no hit to the head but the injury occurred when he went down and hit his head on the ice. If it had been a normal penalty of 2 minutes only one goal would have been scored and the penalized player would return to the ice and the power would have been over. The refs and the league blew the call and tried tio make things right which they didn't do.

Flippy Floppy Fluery is the most overrated goalie ever. He flops all over and can never stay in position to make a save look easy. It’s his thing to excite the crowd by making it look harder then it is. It’s why he got the axe in Pitt. The Vegas cheerleaders / tourists / fans point their fingers at everyone but him because they don’t know anything about the game.

Bad call? He was knocked unconscious and bleeding. I guess they need to actually club him on the head to get a major? Refs miss lots of dirty plays, doesn't make them any less dirty. It should have been Stastny who got the penalty though. The other guy definitely crosschecked him, which is either a crosscheck or an interference penalty, but Stastny slammed him to the ice.
