How many players play through broken wrists and concussions and stuff in the playoffs? It happens, unfortunately, a lot. And Bishop only played 33 more seconds of that game because the next shot went, guess where, over his left shoulder. He mistakenly stayed in and should've gone off soon as he was hurt but he tried to play through it. Cost Dallas another goal before they wisely yanked him. He clearly was hurt.

@jtrav27105 жыл бұрын
Bishop could have stayed on his feet or went butterfly until the puck was cleared. He chose to flop to his back assuming the whistle would blow. He was on his feet in 30 seconds. This was not a serious injury. If this was the case goalies would become injured with every hard shot that gives up a rebound. I can’t believe you picked this as dang it.
@rbmac1105 жыл бұрын
I mean, it still kind of is a dang it since his decision to flop left the net wide open for the goal.
6:00 *Rangers fan here, I thought the Charlie hit was clean IMO. Kept his elbow down and did not leave his feet. Chara was a screen and the fact Anderson is looking down at the puck or his skates does not help him. People used to keep their head up and even on a swivel back in the day. Today players seem to skate and act like they are immune to body checking. I think the minor was the right call, some years ago this would not even be a call. Hell they would not even stop play for this back in 2011-2012.*

The Bishop one is iffy from simply the necessary criteria to stop the play on an opposing scoring chance- if he wasn’t the goalie. I would say that the combination of the fact that he’s clearly badly hurt, and the fact that allowing the play to continue could allow him to get hit with more shots should mean it needs to be stopped... I mean hell, what happens if the second shot is a slapshot that dings him again in the same spot, or hits him in the neck? What if it simply hits him and 10 guys are piling on top of him because he’s unable to cover the rebound? However, I also think that if the play hadn’t transitioned this quickly back to the D and another shot- the refs would have stopped it.

Because there are off ice officials watching the game, they can easily buzz down to the ice and tell the on ice officials that was a 5 minute major or not. Next year I hope they do get major calls right. In NCAA football, if there is a targeting call on the field with ejection, it’s checked on replay to confirm it. NHL can do that too.
@Vanquish795 жыл бұрын
Well there has to be an option for a 5 minute major in the case of McAvoy illegal check to the head doesn’t have a major option it’s only 2 mins or a match penalty can’t blame the refs for calling it the way the rules stated the blame goes to the nhl for that not the officials

Earlier in that same game Dubois hit Krug against the boards in the head hard and earlier in series Kukan jumped with an elbow and smashed Backes right in the head but all of a sudden McAvoy hit was sooooooo terrible, he didn't even hit him in head, his arm, elbow, and lower shoulder got Anderson in the upper chest/lower neck , it was only right after initial contact that McAvoy's top of his shoulder ends up barely hitting Anderson's jaw, that wasn't a bad hit and at very least in no way worse than Kukan from two games earlier or Dubois hit into Krug's face/head as puck slides by, not even in his possession
@Reaper9555 жыл бұрын
I can't find a replay on the Kukan hit anywhere, but the Dubois hit, in my opinion, was completely fair. Krug even had a similar hit on Bjorkstrand earlier in the series. Here is the link to it: kzbin.info/www/bejne/nYGToXybn9qCbcU If the Kukan hit was as bad as the McAvoy hit, then they both should have received 5 minute game-misconducts. Just a copy and paste of why the Eakin major wasn't a dang-it with my opinion on penalties not getting called in general. A handful of facts for everyone in regards to the 5-minute major that Cody Eakin was given. No the cross-check was not worth 5 minutes however remember back to March 5, 2004. A game between the Flyers and Senators turned into a joke of a game with a total of 11 players finishing the game either on the ice or on the bench. The NHL responded with a rule saying that referees can toss out any player to keep control of a game or for player safety. How does this apply to the penalty given to Cody Eakin? The remaining Sharks players on the ice were basically chasing Eakin around the ice chirping at him even after the refs put him in the box. Shortly after putting him in the box they tossed him from the game. What I think happened is the refs saw the reaction from the Sharks players and tossed Eakin from the game to keep the game under control. The only way to toss Eakin is to give him a game misconduct which in of itself requires a major penalty. Hence the 5 minute major for cross-checking. If this is why they tossed him from the game I fully agree with the decision as it was done for the safety of Cody Eakin as well as the other players and to keep control of the game. It is then on the impetus of the Golden Knights to kill off the penalty which they failed to do. As for cross-checking, and other penalties in general, I have this to say. The blame for all of this goes directly to the NHL itself. Both the injuries to Joe Pavelski and T.J. Oshie are fully due to the fault of the NHL and their very lax approach to calling penalties in the game. In this specific instance cross-checking penalties. They just flat out don't call them. The lack of enforcement leads to both of these injuries in what amounts to freak accidents. There is another penalty in the NHL that had the same issue until an infamous moment where Marc Methot more or less had a finger slashed off by Sidney Crosby. Clearly, the penalty I am talking about is slashing. Guess what? The NHL is almost back to square one with that penalty as well. This past season I've seen big two-handed swings of sticks at the stick and hands of the puck carrier with no call whatsoever. However, the lack of calling cross-checking penalties concerns me more. It is clearly more dangerous and is even potentially deadly. There is a particular scenario that plays out almost every game in the NHL that I am only thankful has yet to turn out in the way I fear it eventually will. A player on the attacking team gets in front of the net and attempts to screen the goalie. A defending player then comes from behind and cross-checks the screening player in the back when a shot is taken and the player falls to the ice in front of the shot. While it hasn't happened yet eventually that shot is going to hit that player in the neck or face with the potential to do serious damage and maybe even kill if things go horribly wrong. All because cross-checking goes largely uncalled in the NHL. Is it really going to take another freak accident just like, or heaven forbid worse, than what happened to Joe Pavelski before the NHL starts actually taking player safety serious? I really hope not however I fear it will as T.J. Oshie and Joe Pavelski can, unfortunately, attest to.
