@canesmojo2 жыл бұрын
Well since we know they didn't, it's moot but actually no, he wouldn't have. You have to have played a minimum numbers of games in the regular season OR have played in at least one game in the SCF to qualify. the Canes could petition the league to get his name added -- which happens quite often -- but the reason would have to be compelling enough for the league to grant the petition (there's also a limit on how many names you can squeeze into the space you get for a win). If this had been the game that put them in the playoffs MAYBE they can make a case, but they were above the cut line already, and a couple of weeks later the season got derailed, so they were already in the qualifying round, even as a WC.

I'm 50/50 on that Clifford hit. I definitely don't believe he intended on hurting the goalie BUT I do believe he saw him there. The reason I say this is because of the way he approaches the puck. He doesn't skate it with 2 hands to control it and get a shot off, he extends his arm out to poke the puck away because he knows the goalie is out of position and it could lead to a goal. With that said, yes I believe Clifford saw him skating out, no I don't think he intended on bulldozing him down and hurting him.

The Leafs were already down 3-0. I feel like Toronto would rather score a few for points and take the L, rather than obliterate one of their own employees (who's old enough to retire if he was actually in the NHL) on national TV. The fact that The Canes took *57* shots to our what? 20? Only half of which David Ayres had to take, just means Carolina outplayed us the whole game. Yes, yes, yes, a heart warming story, but put plain and simple we lost that game before Carolina lost their netminders and had a good reason to play extra hard. That all being said, I think some cheers are needed for the Canes, who made sure to really give it their all for the guy who stepped up to play for them. They celebrated him and thanked him profusely post game. THAT is a great show of good sportsmanship.
