I give the Hurricanes a ton of credit. They made Ayres feel very welcome by all patting him somewhere when he was coming off of the bench to go to the ice, must have been a huge confidence booster knowing that he was with a friendly bunch of guys who had their beliefs in him

When he first came out the equipment manager didn't have the pants ready. they had just thrown a jersey together and put him out there so he went out there with a jersey and his Marlies gear. Over the course of play the equipment manager got him some proper Canes pants, possibly borrowed from Reimer or Mrazek, so he'd fully match the rest of the team.

one time last season my regular goalie got a concussion in the game so me as the starting center was our listed “backup” so i had to step in against the number one team in our division, who we were currently beating 1-0. on one play with a minute left my glove came off but it was a one goal game and i didn’t want them to tie it so i jumped across the net and blocked a slapshot with my bare hand. i broke my pinky finger in three places but we won the game 1-0 and I got a shutout so i was happy. 😂

That final play with Ekholm, that's not "terrible luck" but bad defense. As a defender, the golden rule is that you don't make a small deflection on a shot that the goalie can see and prepared for. You can't kick at a puck like that unless you're sure you can stop it.
