I am under the royal free hospital in London. The ophthalmologist I am under are terrible. I’ve seen three different ones who are very happy to not treat anything there and then and would rather leave it and let it get worse before any intervention. I am 35 with diabetic eye disease. I was given two operations in my right last year for a detached retina and also cataract surgery. I have been short sighted the whole of my life and they give me a lense for long distance without being told they would. I was lww wear to believe that it was just wear and tear from being a diabetic with out being given the name to my condition or the severity of it. I was made to believe my eye sight would go back to normal. I was never told what the second op was for. I was never told of the condition I had and found out from doing my own research. As soon as they knew I had DR I was written off and looked at well she’ll lose her eyesight way the disease is. Which I refuse to be Just a number. I was told in February this year from a general eye examine for new glasses from a high street spec savers I had a slight detachment in my left eye. The quickly called the hospital who brushed it off and said the knew about this in November last year but failed to tell me. I have had no treatment for my left eye from November till the end of august this year. I have been left and isolated. No help no support for my mental well being. I have two teenage children and as I said 35 years old. I have tried seeking help from the western eye hospital who refused to see me without a referral and then the morefields eye hospital Refuse a referral made by my gp. Nhs are only interested in providing help to patients in their 60s/70s. I have had no follow up with my consultant and the last time I was seen by anyone from the royal free was back in feb. Currently I am 8 months pregnant which has worsened my eyesight. The only ophthalmologist I’ve seen is the screenings they give diabetic pregnant women at St Pancras eye hospital where I have been given laser treatment in my left eye. Since November the sight in my left eye has worsened I have asked for the surgery to flatten my retina to be given to me a well as cataract surgery. I’ve had floaters appear in the left eye 3 months ago and they still haven’t gone. I’ve been refused only down to the fact of my age and the cost for the nhs. They will Leave me until the retina detached from the centre of my eye which then will impact my vision greatly in that eye. I rely a lot on my left eye as the vision in my right is blurry. I have had to be persistent and near on harassed the ophthalmologist to be seen. When I explained all what has gone on with the royal free he said he would make a note for the other consultant to see but would word it in a way it wouldn’t offend anyone Doctors who work along side one another will bavk each other up they won’t ever side with the patient even when they know there has been medical negligence. The whole experience has been disgusting isolating debilitating and flat out inhumane. I don’t know how these consultants get away with it. I have zero trust in the nhs. No one should have to fight to get the treatment they deserve or the medical help they deserve. A cancer patient wouldn’t be tossed aside for having lung cancer after smoking for 25 years. A obese patient wouldn’t be tossed aside for eating too much and not exercising. Why at 35 have I been cast off and not helped why have I been left for my sight to get worse to not be treated like I’m nothing. Absolutely disgusting. Nhs has gone to hell. Instead of strikes doctors consultant surgeons need to remember the promise they made when graduating in their field of work and abide by it. Think of the patient and their families. Don’t keep quite when you see a patient is not getting the help you hey need bevauee they are being seen under a fellow colleague. I am desperate for someone to help me I am petrified in losing my eye sight. 3 years ago I lost my 9 year old son to cancer bevauee the royal free misdiagnosed his leukaemia with constipation and then great ormand street hospital dropped the ball with him. I am almost ready to give up Fighting for the help I deserve and desperately need.

Hi...I'm just a regular brown ophthalmologist who has never been to Uk and hasn't gone through your eye examination but I can assume you are suffering from advanced diabetic retinopathy...the thing is you already had an rd surgery i belive..in aded there are tractional bands that can detach the retina ..so if the central retina is attached and vision is good most ophthalmologist will wait and watch as with rd surgery you are also going to loose the current vision to intrqocular gas or worse case scenario silicon oil...now if the cause of your rd is not diabetic and you mentioned re-rd and a laser..so it is actually called a barricade laser..rather than making you go another rd surgery and loose your sight to gas, they barricaded the rd with laser..so the rd that is in the periphery won't be spreading ...thus you wont be losing any vision..thirdly you mentioned decrease vision while being pregnant..well that's normal..your hormones are causing structural changes in your cornea probably..it will get settled soon..i believe for worsening of diabetic changes you already have seen an ophthalmologisy so you are left with this cornea thing
