I remember him in the 80's. He was one of the most knowledgeable meteorologists I have ever seen in my life. A legend left us in 2002.

I remember watching John in the mid 90's on the early a.m. rotations on TWC as I got ready for school. He helped stir my interest in weather as I'm sure he did many others. R.I.P.

He would have also reported about the falling temperatures in the East Coast due to the polar vortices.

Exactly! I remember turning on the TWC and watching a meteorologist present the weather. It seems like they show tv shows instead of the weather most of the time

I always wondered if John had not died, if he would have retired before the hyperactive 04 and 05 hurricane seasons. It would have been very interesting to get to watch him cover all those storms.
@Savineyard310 жыл бұрын
Oh my god yes. He would have jumped out of his skin if he lived to see hurricane charley, Katrina, rita, Wilma, Emily, Dennis, and whatever category 4-5 megacanes. Imagine what he would have said on the air if he saw Superstorm Sandy which brought the Egg Harbor Bay water just 1 block away from my house here in South Jersey.

John Hope was the greatest hurricane forecaster ever...I watched the weather channel as a kid just for the tropical update to learn science and weather from a master... American Hero...RIP John Hope
@DanTheMan1985ful7 жыл бұрын
Forecasting Hurricanes and Tropical Storms was his life... Always tracking them from Depression to Category 5... Letting us know where they were coming from and where they are going to hit... and Letting us know what to do before the storm came or when we had to endure the storm itself... Either way you look at it, he did his best at Educating us, Informing us, and Warning us of any Approaching Storm...
@DanTheMan1985ful7 жыл бұрын
Also forgot to mention John Hope was our only hope and guide when both Skies and the Seas became Violent especially during Tornado and Hurricane Season. Whether we the viewers were under a Storm Watch or Storm Warning he was there... R.I.P. John Hope and Dave Schwartz...

John Hope is dead?!?! I always figured I missed him for the past eight years during the very few times I tuned into the Weather Channel (I was obsessed with weather in early high school, but then dropped off watching any TV during and after college). I know it sounds profoundly stupid, but I hadn't realized his death until now! He was a great presence on the Weather Channel. Taught me a lot about hurricanes. RIP John Hope...

Hurricane Camille is named after his only Daughter Camille, who is married to former Macon GA Mayor and Georgia Congressman Jim C. Marshall. Jim C Marshall's Grandfather was one of the inventors of the Atom Bomb and worked on the Manhattan Project. Jim C. Marshall graduated from high school at McGill Institute in Mobile Alabama.

The weather channel has lost a lot of its best qualities since John died. They need someone like him to run things when hurricanes are around- no hype BS, no competing with cable- just getting the facts to people to keep them safe.

Tracking hurricanes hasn't been the same since the death of John. I don't think the guy got a wink of sleep when a hurricane was in the Gulf or on the eastern seaboard threating land fall. Turn on the weather channel 3 in the afternoon he was on! Turn on the channel again at 3 in the morning, he was on tracking the storm! Safety was his major concern. Miss ya John!!
