Niagara always reminds me about the HMS Enterprise. I mean, that one in WWI/II. HMS Enterprise (D52) is an Emerald-Class light cruiser, Royal Navy developed this ship as an emergency respond to Germany's new high-speed light cruisers. As such, the ship is simply lengthened the hull of existing Danae-Class cruiser for 30 metres, plug in a new section of engine room and a new chimney, to doubled the ship's engine, make it capable to reach 33 knots. Pretty much like what happened on Niagara.

The Niagara might have used Ambassador Class Nacelles in its earlier life as the ships registries point to the same timeframe as the Ambassador long before the Galaxy class was even designed (20000 registry is used in the Ambassador class and Niagara Class USS Wellington NCC 28473) . It wouldn't be the first time the Nacelles have been changed on a starship. It was classified as a Fast Cruiser. USS Princeton was at Wolf 359....being a Fast ship no doubt doomed the crew as it was able to make it to the fight so quickly

Why Yes you could have done it different on the last battle. Mult target the Romulan ships torpedo launchers, first... You woulda won if you did. Your way you came close, but in the end. Those pesky Plasma Torpedo's made you BITE THE FARM,.

I think the Niagara is a heavy cruiser by the time of the Dominion War. Probably at the lower end of a heavy cruiser, a bit above the Ambassador in terms of firepower.

For the last battle I think if you would have target the shield generators you could have won it, the first romulan battle you disabled the shield generator without realizing it and it gave you an easy kill.
