Hi Louise, Regarding the water, all water in Ontario is fresh water (you're about as far away from the oceans as you can get from the oceans). My *guess* is that the difference you experienced in the water in Kelowna is that it is mountain/spring water. Regarding rust on cars, it is due to the salt that is applied to the roads in winter. BC tends to have much milder winters than Ontario due to the warming effect of the oceans, therefore they use less salt on the roads, so less rust. It is worth noting that often the rust you see on cars is just superficial rust and does not affect the structural integrity of the car. Of course, there are some cars where the rust has eaten through the frame, and in those cases the car is structurally unsound, but this is less common with newer vehicles and ones that have been treated with rust protection spray. Finally, regarding milk, bagged milk is only sold in Ontario and Quebec, whereas the rest of the country predominantly uses the plastic containers.

We used to live just a few steps from the Lake in Kelowna and swam there often. I have also swum in quite a few lakes in Ontario. Many small lakes in the Burlington/Hamilton area and also in Lake Huron and Georgian Bay, The water in all these places felt the same as Okanagan Lake., nice fresh and clean. I have never been in either Eirie or Ontario and probably never will. Way too much industry around those two. If you went in either of these , it was probably chemicals you could sense! Our family there said they would never go in either of those two, unless for a quick paddle! (Just realised that 'paddle' here only means in a canour, SUP or kayak, it NEVER means going in up to your knees!

The winters are shorter and much less snow in southern BC, so we don't put all that salt on the roads. That's why there isn't the rust problem.

Have you travelled to the Muskoka region in Ontario yet? You will find water sports more prevalent and the lifestyle more relaxed. It is also more wild with bears, wolves and moose. In Niagara, you will find a lot of deer and coyotes on the Escarpment. And Lake Ontario is fresh water, but harder due to all the limestone.

Great video. Kelowna has a semi arid climate so it will be quite different from Ontario or here on the West Coast, Vancouver, Victoria etc where the climate is similar to the UK, but MUCH drier summers ! We used to live in Kelowna and really enjoyed the year round climate. Hot, sometimes really hot summers, 40C , but little rain year round, with NO humidity in the Summer. Winters are great too. Colder than the UK, but with some snow. I think we had a white Christmas there! Another point I wanted to bring up which will be of interest to those thinking of moving to Canada is travel time. I did mention this before a few months ago in one of your previous videos, but I don't think you caught it. You mentioned one of the reasons you picked Ontario over say Vancouver was travel times. You said that you could get back to the UK from Ontario in just a few hours, so a day's travel. However travel from Vancouver was MUCH longer, so two days, maybe longer! The fact is London to Toronto 6hrs 45 mins. London to Vancouver 9hrs! Draw a straight line on a GLOBE , not on a map , to see why it's not that much farther!

I grew up around the Niagara region and I can't notice a difference in accent at all 😂😂 The L.A accent we call "valley girl." It's definitely in every major Canadian city you go to, just based on how influenced people are by American movies / Hollywood. People who speak valley are usually on the lower end of the IQ spectrum. Higher pitched, yes, and every sentence has an inflection at the end...as if you're always asking a question.

Hey Louise, great video as usual! I’m from the U.K. but I’m a weather geek so I know there are different climates in different regions. From my personal experience though, when I visited Coquitlam, near Vancouver.. it was a very “fresh” feeling place… just clear, lovely fresh air. The weather was also sunny but not too humid. Although Vancouver is known for its rain, it is different to the U.K. as it has guaranteed dryer summers. I think the weather is all over the place everywhere at the moment though.. due to climate change. I know Coquitlam residents said they had more snow than usual this year and the lower land doesn’t usually get a lot of snow. The LA lifestyle.. I wouldn’t call them LA people although I know what you mean. La la land is a strange place 😂 and I wouldn’t dare compare lovely Canadians with them! I think the better description is it’s more outdoorsy in BC? But don’t forget, you visited a touristy place in the height of summer. If you visited Anglesey, where I am right now, everyone is paddle boarding, jet skiing, speedboating, swimming, ok the beach etc etc.. but that’s not a true reflection on everyone, if you get me? Don’t get me wrong I do go for long walks every day on the beach etc but I’m not on a paddle board every single day. It’s the same when I was in BC, some people are into outdoorsy stuff but others just want to stay in and watch tv. But if you visit the touristy areas, you’ll always see people doing stuff and again not a true reflection 🙂 I thought bagged milk was an 80s thing in Canada? When I was in Coquitlam 10 years ago, they all had plastic containers for milk like they have in the U.K… but the family I was with joked about having the bags in the 80s…. Wildlife, the only difference is that there is a lot more wilderness in BC.. a lot more space to roam. In the cities you will get the scavenger animals like foxes, raccoons etc. In Coquitlam they had bear signs in the streets and while we were there, a mamma bear and her Cubs were at the local school… it was the norm, because sadly they are building new homes up in the mountains and forcing the animals like bears and cougars down to the neighbourhoods ☹️

Most of BC's liquor stores are privately owned and all of Alberta's are. The LCBO thing is just weird.

Hey Louise, we are from England but currently living in the BC area. You guys would love the mild winters, wildlife, city feel with the mountains surrounding it is amazing, the many beaches and coastline here, not to mention Vancouver Island which is only a short ferry ride away with lots of British style pubs in the Victoria area. You guys should take a break over to Vancouver too.

@@LouiseWareArmstrong Don't forget I promised you and Jake a tour of Victoria in our '67 Mustang Convertible, if you can make it over here. I bought it as soon as I got here in 1973 so I could take pictures of it and send them back to the 'boys' in the pub back in Wales. "Look what I'm driving now boys!"

Yes, there are government liquor stores in BC, LCBC, just like the LCBO in Ontario, There are three in Kelowna. We also have private liquor stores that are often a little more expensive. In our village of 5000, we have one of each, plus a few private ones a few miles away, What we do not have here are the Beer Stores that they have in Ontario, that just sell beer. We have the two kinds of liquor stores and some larger supermarkets sell wine and maybe beer? We find that younger people here use the private stores, where as us oldies are too cheap!

The Great Lakes, a group of 5 lakes, on the Canada (Ontario) and US border are the largest body of fresh water on the Earth. So all water in Ontario is fresh water and the cleanest safest drinking water in the world.

Great Comparison Video Louise. Water in Kelona vs Water in Niagara Falls. It seems that due to the salting of roads in Ontario. That salt in water is becoming an issue with the Great Lakes. However, it should be noted that they are working on alternatives. It is a major environmental issue thou. That being said. Tap water in Niagara Falls / Region is considered safe to drink. Whereas in Kelowna they consider it safe to drink but the elderly, young , or immune compromised should drink bottled water. Rust is occurs when two things come into contact with steel water/humidity and salt.

I noticed somebody already mentioned the salt on the roads as to why the cars get rusty over here and that is true. I don't know about BC but because of Alberta being alot of farms they don't use as much salt on the roads they tend to use more sand for traction so maybe BC does this as well and of course like the other person said there milder winters. oh when you get a newer car in the future I would suggest you get it either rust checked or crown rust protection or some kind of under coating of the car to protect it from rust. It will help it last longer and keep the value up. Also bag milk is mainly a Ontario and east thing. We have bagged milk down here in Nova Scotia as well but we also have milk in plastic cartons as well and I think even in paper.

@@LouiseWareArmstrong no you can find bagged milk all the way from Ontario, Quebec, new Brunswick, PEI, and Nova Scotia. Not sure about Newfoundland. It's just that down here in Halifax Nova Scotia you can also find milk in plastic jugs as well.

It has been a while since I've seen a skunk here in BC. I used to live in North Vancouver and you'd see them often, so I imagine they must been in the interior. I've never seen a skunk here on Vancouver Island, plenty of raccoons so it's not like there is a shortage of food for scavenger animals. Hadn't noticed this until you mentioned it

I grew up in St. Catharines/Niagara, so, naturally, I'm biased. But, judging from your video, both regions are beautiful in their own unique way.as for the water, none of the Great Lakes have salt, they're all freshwater. BC is much less populated (12% of Cdn pop) than Southern Ontario (40% of Cdn pop) and, therefore, not as urbanized. So, skunks and raccoons, which are both scavengers, will congregate in more urbanized areas. The large animals in BC are more common in wilderness areas. You can get milk in plastic cartons in Ontario at 7-elevens and Mac's convenience stores.

There's more snow in Ontario regions than in Okanagan like kelowna Penticton and points South so less salt on the roads to control slippery roads etc. I think there's a salt mixture in the sand that's spread on Hwys. And there's just wider larger hwy systems on Niagara than Kelowna so maybe Ontarioans drive around more??? Might be reason Milk... The first time I went to visit my daughter who moved to Ontario I laughed at crazy bagged milk. I COULD NEVER get that stupid idiot cutter thing that came attached to the jug to cut the bag. Gahhhhh made me crazy Scenery.... Road trips are boring in Ontario... So flat so many trees in my vision obscuring anything worthy of seeing. The other thing that's funny about Ontarians???? They're idea of what a mountain is. We drove once from Toronto to Niagara falls (the first time) and my son-in-law was pointing out this statue on a hillside. That one in the niagara region. I forget what the name is. Anyway I couldn't see it. I looked around and didn't see it. He said "it's right there on the mountain"... What mountain, there's a mountain I can't see either???? I finally saw the statue and had to laugh at his idea of a mountain. People in Ontario are VERY jealous Of mountains in BC & alberta. Very touchy on the subject. Bahaha.

Oh and the lakes should all be freshwater.. because they are all far from the sea.. but maybe the water in BC feels fresher? The cars are probably rusted because of all the grit on the roads where you are? With more snow that side, and people driving through the slush that mixes with the snow.. their cars will be rusted. I live near the sea and rust can be a problem but if you clean cars often they’ll be fine… but obviously where you are, it’s less likely you’re going to watch your cars in the snow lol wheras in the U.K. you can wash your car on a cold day because there’s no snow on the ground. If that makes sense? Personally, I’ve never been to the eastern side of Canada but because it’s closer to the U.K./Europe etc and also closer to New York.. I’m guessing there’s quite a mix of people there - but more BC side, like you mentioned you get some Aussies and and when I was there a lot of Chinese coming over and buying the homes and businesses. The family I was staying with knew a few Aussies that come there to do buses up and just travel around in them (camper vans etc). That’s the vive their going for, that California camper / adventure thing! Just from years of watching different programmes and documentaries and researching I think I do prefer BC - just because of the epic scenery when I was there, it reminded me of home on a much larger scale, mountains and sea! 🥰 I would like to visit Toronto and Niagara Falls etc but it looks very Blackpool-like in some of the videos I’ve seen (not yours, just other videos)! I like visiting Blackpool once every couple of years but I wouldn’t like to live there 😟 I think there’s food and bad everywhere at the end of the day and when you live somewhere it’s different to when you are visiting, so that’s the thing to keep in mind. We live somewhere amazing close to the snowdonia National park, close to beaches, to castles and forests etc but it doesn’t mean we are always out and about as we are working hard to live here 😅 but that’s the impression you would get if you visited us for a week and we were doing all the outdoorsy stuff 🙂 Looking forward to the next video!
