I was a Garda (Police officer) in Niall's hometown of Mullingar for a couple of years. One night in 2014, a colleague and I were on patrol and Niall was out on a night on the town with his mate. Towards the end of the night, we decided to bring him and his mate home as was being swarmed by many young lady's (lucky guy). The craic we had with him in the patrol car was brilliant. He's a gent like his dad, Genuine and sincere. Westmeath's finest! Well done Niall, beautiful version of Spancil Hill.

I heard someone in the audience mention Northern Ireland in reference to this song. No no it is a Co Clare song. Spancil Hill is in Co Clare, on the Tulla Road between Ennis and Tulla and it always reminds me of my father Ned Kelleher. This is a lovely version by Niall.

As I get older I often reflect and ponder on my irish heritage and what would have been if my father moved there as he was going to in the late 70s. My whole family hailing from Galway Dublin and donegal. To be honest it does hurt me that I wasn't born there. I’ve also struggled with my heritage a lot having been born in England with most of my family hailing from Tipperary and Donegal. I find myself listening to Irish music like this more than anything else. Nothing stirs the soul like Irish music sung beautifully, but then again you don’t have to be Irish to enjoy it.
