In my opinion, Xjoob loved Paj more than she loved him. She broke up with him, didn't look for him after her divorce, didn't recognize him, didn't ask for his number, didn't recognize his voice on the phone, and it was always him pursuing her after they reconnected. I honestly think if she recognized him at the store, but he never saw her, I don't think she would've approach him at all. I was hoping that it would be reveal why Paj's father didn't want her to marry Xjoob. If her father is still alive, I'm also wondering if he finally gave his blessing.

Hello, Thank you very much for listening to my neej neeg. Perhaps I can answer this question for you. From talking to Pa when she told me her story, Hmong women during that time were more conservative than Hmong women today. Hmong women then were still playing their roles for the men to pursue them more. Both of her parents had passed. The reason her father didn't allow her to marry him in the first place was that her family had a higher social status than the boyfriend. The boyfriend was an orphan with having just his mom and they were from lower social status than Pa's family. Pa's father preferred her to date and marry someone with similar social status as theirs. For that reason, he forbid her to marry him. Both parents had already passed when Pa and Xyoob got reconnected.

My advice to women out there: NEVER marry an intelligent man with a SHORT temper! I believe Xyoob loved Paj more than Paj loved Xyoob, and that's why she was able to drop him for her parents. Paj's marriage to John failed because John only married her due to the pregnancy, NOT because he loved her with all of his heart. Her biggest mistake in her adult life was making an important life decision NOT for her happiness but for her parents' happiness! If she had just followed her heart originally, she might have had a happier life in her 20s to 40s. Live for yourself and your happiness, NOT for your parents because it's YOUR LIFE! OG Hmong parents care very little about their children's happiness, just face that can be brought to them----this mentality has ruined plenty of children's lives in the Hmong culture!
