Fun fact: "HAN" accidentally cut Bruce Lee for real. The part where you see him yell and kick him outta the shot real fast/hard was real! Bruce Lee got pissed from being cut for real and kicked him so hard he dislocated "HAN's" shoulder and they kept rolling while he was in a sling.

Seeing this in theaters in a packed house was a life changing experience as a young teenager in the 70,s. technicolor made the colors jump off the screen. Lee had the crowd in the palm of his hand from the very first scene. just an amazing experience i will never forget. the original version i saw was different. they released it later with this extra footage added. but the original i saw was just as powerful

Back when "Enter the Dragon" came out, Black Belt magazine reported that John Saxon (the actor who played Roper) was a brown belt in Shotokan karate. Since then, I've seen online arguments saying that he was a black belt. Whichever rank he was, he had some legitimate martial arts skills for doing his fight scenes in this movie.

It was the 70s, and in Hong Kong they really didn't think a lot about stunt safety compared to today. They just did the thing and pointed a camera at it. People got hurt a lot. It seems a miracle Jackie Chan can still walk.

In the first sparring match, Bruce's opponent is Sammo Hung. The backflip he did after the match was his stunt double Yuen Wah who is the landlord in "Kung Fu Hustle" and Guang Bo, the old archer in "Shang Chi" The head goon who tries to collect Roper's debt on the golf course is Pat Johnson who trained the actors and choreographed the fights in "The Karate Kid." He was also the ref in the tournament scenes at the end. Jackie Chan is one of Han's random goons, Bruce kicks his ass a number of times Bruce was 5' 8", Bolo is *5'6".* (Jackie Chan is 5' 10") Bolo was so jacked, he looked bigger than everyone even though he was one of the shortest guys on set. Shih Kien, the actor who portrayed Han, did not speak English. He learned his lines phonetically and then they were overdubbed by actor Keye Luke, who portrayed the original Kato in the 1940 Green Hornet serial. (In HK, movies were shot MOS; meaning no sound recorded on set, all dialog looped in post, which is why The Chinese monk was obviously overdubbed by a British actor) EDIT: no, that was his own voice, looping in post makes the sync look off even when you do it yourself. And it was Roy Chiao who was Lao Che in "Indiana Jones and The Temple of Doom." Thanks to @RetroClassic66 for the correction

The Chinese monk, Bruce’s teacher at the beginning, was played by Roy Chiao, a Hong Kong actor who spoke fluent English and later played gangster Lao Che in INDIANA JONES AND THE TEMPLE OF DOOM (1984). He dubbed his own dialogue in this movie, as did Bruce Lee.

FUN FACT: In Bruce Lee's fight against O'Hara, man with scar, Lee's kicks were actually full contact because in rehearsals, guy playing O'Hara accidentally sliced one of Lee's fingers open on the part where he broke the glass bottle in the scene, they changed the move to Lee kicking it out his hand on the final cut. And so to get him back, Bruce really kicked him in their fight scene. The side kick that sent O'Hara flying into the crowd broke some ribs.

Greatest martial art movie of all time. There will never be another Bruce Lee!!! Fun Fact: In the original script Jim Saxon's aka Roper was suppose to get killed, by Hans, but he didn't want his character getting killed, so they killed off Jim Kelly's character aka Williams. Bruce & Kelly were to team-up at the end to fight Han's men. That would have been way more epic. Saxon to me was just a brawler, but Bruce was an intense & powerful fighter & Kelly was a smooth & cool fighter, so they balanced one another, the ying & yang! 😃👍

Marshall (12 Angry Men) and David Hartman (Good Morning America)) leading up to Enter the Dragon. In real life he held a black belt in Shotokan karate and had done martial arts since 1957. Bruce Lee was a visonary who had many people wanting him to not reveal his peer's art to others because of traditonal thinking or ways, without him I don't see actors like Jackie Chan or Jet Li making movies in the US or even Martial Art sports be this popular and glamorous as boxing. How he brought people from all over the world to enjoy what they love to do and turn it into a world phenomenon was a stroke of genius. The movie Dragon the Bruce Lee story is one the best biopic to delve into if youre curious about his upbringing.

Yes, Ip Man taught Bruce kung fu..But after that, he trained with some of the best in Jiu-Jitsu, Boxing, Wrestling Savate, (French Kickboxing) Judo.1:15..First the Akido throw. Then the dirty street fighting throw by the head. Then the Jiu-Jitsu finishing armbar/neck choke. 2:08.Straight from his book," The Tao of Jeet Kun Do", chapter 1...AKA " Catching your opponent flat-footed"..they literally run right into the blow.

Ip Man only taught Bruce Lee the foundations of traditional martial arts. Bruce's eventual style was "having no way as way." That means totally unpredictable, freestyle fighting, much like an animal would fight. Lee even said that a total beginner can be more dangerous than a so-called "expert" with years of training because the beginner is not bound by rules or conventions.

37:33 "You have offended my family, and you have offended the Shaolin Temple." In the 2007 comedy movie "Finishing the Game" (which was inspired by the real life cash grab attempt to finish the movie "Game of Death" after Bruce Lee died before the movie was completed) one of the Bruce Lee lookalikes auditioning for the movie was so overjoyed about playing his hero that he delivered this line with a big smile, and the film makers told him that he had to look more angry when he said the line because the way he was doing it made it look like he was happy about being offended.

I don’t know if anybody’s mentioned it already, but at 33 minutes, Bruce is fighting Jackie Chan. As Jackie was one of the stuntmen on the film. You should react to Dragon the Bruce Lee Story with Jason Scott Lee, and maybe some of Brandon Lee’s movies, the Crow, Rapid Fire.

Great movie. Fyi there is a funny spoof of this movie in the Kentucky Fried movie with the skitch in it called "A fist full of Yen". There is a great bio pic drama on Bruce Lee called Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story which is a great movie. You should watch Bruce List other movies. My Favorite is Fist of Fury which has a great remark of that movie with Jet Lee called Fist of Legend

The only actor among the main characters who didn't know martial arts in real life was "Roper", the gambler/golf guy. Apparently the studio insisted on having him because he was an established star in Hollywood at the time. (Bruce Lee was an American, born in San Francisco! 🙂) The black guy was like 4th degree black belt in Karate, iirc. A really good show you should check out is "Warrior" on "MAX". It's based on Bruce Lee's notes for a TV show he wanted to do on CBS in the 70s. But CBS decided they didn't want an Asian-American as the star, so they declined his offer but then turned around and made a show called Kung Fu with a white guy as the main character. Warrior is about a guy who comes to San Francisco from China in the late 1800s looking for his sister who was kidnapped. (at that time, China was a free country.) He finds her, but she has become a drug dealer. Our hero ends up in a gang, and at first he's an unintentional bad guy, but over time he becomes a guy who just uses his role in the gang to pay the bills, and behind the scenes he's doing good stuff for the people of Chinatown. Everybody in Warrior who is portrayed as knowing martial arts, the actor actually knows it in real life! The main character is played a British man of Japanese descent (he fakes an American accent for the show). Bruce Lee's daughter is the producer of the new show. She knows Jeet Kune Do herself! (her father's art.) But her father died when the kids were very young, so it was Bruce Lee's friends who taught her JKD. It's a really good show!! 🙂

One of my favorite martial arts movies. Sadly, Bruce Lee died before this movie premiered, but the legacy he left behind will live forever. This is also one of the only times where you can hear his accent. Most of the others, he's overdubbed by someone who doesn't have one.

1:43 Yes, that bit *was* supposed to be in English, but in the original version released in 1973 that whole scene was cut due to it at the time being deemed "too preachy" for a Western audience. It was not added until sometime in the 1990s, by which point, although Roy Chiao was still alive, Bruce had died long beforehand so someone else had to dub his voice. Also, this was a Hong Kong production. At the time Hong Kong movies were not shot sync-sound so all voice-recording was done after filming wrapped. The first Hong Kong film to be shot sync-sound was not until _Police Story III: Supercop_ in 1992, and even then it would not be until 1998 that this became standard practice in Hong Kong cinema.

*Now...* you need to react to "Kentucky Fried Movie" It's the very first movie from Zucker-Abrams-Zucker ("Airplane" "The Naked Gun") and it features an extended parody of ETD. (If you've never seen "The Wizard of Oz" see that first too) Bruce only made five movies. They're all worth seeing, except maybe "Game of Death" - it was completed after his death using unfinished footage and his stunt double in sunglasses. Instead, find the documentary "Bruce Lee: A Warrior's Journey" it contains all the Game of Death footage in it's original cut. And although it's highly fictionalized, the biopic "Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story" is a lot of fun What you really should check into is 80's and 90's HK action like *classic* Jackie Chan ("Police Story" "Project A" "Dragons Forever" "Operation Condor" "Drunken Master 2") Jet Li (Once Upon a Time in China I & II, Fist of Legend) and John Woo ("The Killer" "Hardboiled" "Once a Thief") and the fantasy movies like "A Chinese Ghost Story" and "The Bride with White Hair"

If you fancy more 'Martial Art's' movie's....'Drunken master', 'Method man' {now known as 'Fearless boxer'}, 'Shoalin soccer', 'Ong bak', 'Kung Faux' & 'Fist of the conder' for a nice mix of classic modern and comedy martial arts.... I'd also recommend 'District 13'{2004} & the 'Taxi' Franchise{1998 on}....both french action crime movies, both under-rated but great! 😉

They didn't have spun sugar breakaway bottles, so those were real broken glass bottles in the scene when Ohara attacks Lee. Bruce Lee actually cut his hand on one of the bottles, and filming of his fight scenes had to be delayed while his hand healed.
