Cassie, the lady in the rocking chair is the constellation "Cassiopeia". She's not actually in a rocking chair but that's what he changed it to. The constellation Cassiopeia was supposed to be her on her throne with her head down. I think she was sad because her daughter was about to be sacrificed.

I did know what the movie was about the first time I saw it. My father was a big Stephen King fan, and this particular book of his came out in serialized form when I was a teenager, roughly 100 pages a month for 6 months. My mother, who didn't read much back then, started to read it too. When she got part 5, I started in and read the first four, took 5 after she was finished and grabbed part 6 first. The weirdest part for me was that it was a Stephen King movie that didn't take place in my home state of Maine. I knew it wouldn't but that was still the weirdest part for me, not the sudden turn to healing and whatnot.

This movie is a true masterpiece of cinema. Every cast member gave phenomenal performances and the story was perfection. Random thought for you, if John made Paul and Mr Jingles live so long by giving them little pieces of himself, how long had John been walking the world? How long would you have to live to forget how you got covered with scars? By the way, that mouse living so long is the equivalent of Paul living for about 2000 years or so.

I think the movie is about suffering, especially suffering of innocent people. The suffering we cause each other (the murder of the young girls, the burning of Del), and the suffering due to other reasons (the brain tumor, seeing our loved ones die due to old age). The movie allows us to feel strong compassion and empathy for the suffering of the world, through John's ability to feel all the suffering of others and his desire to help ease that suffering. At the end we cry because we feel compassion and empathy for John's suffering, leaving us (hopefully) with more empathy for others; for how much suffering there is in the world. The most powerful scene for me is 13:30 and the execution of course, because the prison guards and John empathize with each other's suffering, trying to ease it for each other (John to Paul: "I know you're hurting and worrying"). The only thing that can bring some ease to suffering is our empathy and compassion for each other. To me, that's the point of the story.

Great reaction Nia! It's very natural to want to try to fit a movie into a category or larger context so we better know how to think or feel about it. We try to figure out, is this a (real-life / supernatural / racial / political, etc.) movie? The Green Mile is definitely one of those movies where it helps to just take things as they happen, without trying to predict what's going to happen next or figure out what the larger context is. By the end, you realize it doesn't matter what category the movie fits into. It's just a powerful story, well told.

Stephen King has a lot of books/movies that are less horror or very little like the two you saw. At one point he was writing like 2-3 books a year. He has over 70 books to his name. Delores Clayborn and Misery fit that mold real well. They are a little scary but NORMAL type scary. Stand by me no scary stuff at all and Hearts in Atlantis has very little. Nia, so many discussions are built on this movie, and during one of them with some friends, I was recently introduced to the theory that John Coffey = J.C. = Jesus Christ. Christ absorbed the sins of the world and died on the cross for it, next to two criminals. One was repentant for his misdeeds and the other was not. I never thought of it that way, it gave me great insight and it gives even more depth to the subtext found in Steven King's literature. Just some food for thought as you move forward.

I really loved your reaction Nia, I hope you get to react to Jojo Rabbit. I've watched it recently and it's now one of my favorite movies of all time. If you like Tom Hanks you should check out Forrest Gump or Saving Private Ryan. But I really think Jojo Rabbit will really surprise you.

Additional stuff for your part II 1. Hammersmith/Lt Dan wasn't a very good attorney. 2. Toot Toot/Harry Dean Stanton(RIP) has a very long resume and is worth checking out whenever you can. off the top of my head, Alien, the original Red Dawn, Christine, Pretty in Pink and Escape from New York. 3. Regarding Percy it couldn't happen to a nicer guy. KARMA's a Bitch 4 Both David Morse and James Cromwell are the same height as MCD but planks and a smaller bed and chair were used to make him taller than he actually was. 5. The mouse used when Del is going to the chair was one of the real mice and really did poop on Paul's shoulder. 6. Now we know why old Paul wanted two pieces of dry toast (day old is fine) 7. Director Frank Deramont asked Michael Clarke Duncan if he had a nickname. MCD said he is called Big Mike Frank told him to find little Mike to become John Coffey. 8. Congratulations you have just experienced the GOAT😎
@NiaMakiReacts2 жыл бұрын
Oh man I totally forgot about that attorney in the end too,.. I was pretty upset with him also… and too funny about the 💩 lol! that mouse is one that I’m ok with, the ONLY one lol. and yeah, Percy got a taste of Karma. That’s for sure!

I have seen several reactors describe the Green Mile as the best movie they had ever seen, and they would never watch it again. Sorry Nia, but you failed the challenge in the first 30 minutes of the movie when Paul was reading the transcript and they showed John with the little girls. The movie takes place in the deep south, Louisianna, which accounts for the guards' accent and Del speaking Cajun French. The prison was an all-black unit, still segregated back then, with a few white trustees like Toot. Chief and Del had done some very bad things, the movie wanted to show that they were still human beings. When they used the electric chair, they would turn the power off and on till the condemned was dead. Executions as bad a Dell's were rare but did happen. Stephen King wrote the book and had it released in 6 parts because he was tired of people flipping to the end to see what happens.

Yeah this was the south during the depression. Wild Bill could have confessed everything and they still would have executed John which is just horrible. At the same time, it's what he wanted. Like, I believe in the right to die. If you're in constant interminable pain of which there is no relief and you've exhausted all other alternatives, I think everyone has the right to decide, "I'm done." At the same time literally every single time I see this I bawl my eyes out wishing John would have let them break him out. And I'm not a religious person by any means but Tom Hanks asking what he's gonna tell god when he's asked why he let this happen totally breaks me. This movie is phenomenal.
@NiaMakiReacts2 жыл бұрын
That’s true, you’re right I’m sure they could have still executed him cause.. well those were the times :( forreal though when he was talking about that part I was like 😭 😭

@@NiaMakiReacts If it's not too much to ask, can you please add "Hero" starring Dustin Hoffman, Geena Davis, and Andy Garcia to your list. It's a gem of a movie that came out in 1992. I swear you won't be disappointed. It's not a tear jerker, but you should probably have a tissue near.

It's a reaction video not a commentary, learn to be still. Damn why do so many of these youtuber TALK incessantly instead of being still, immerse and react?
@NiaMakiReacts2 жыл бұрын
Part of it is because we only have a select amount we can put in the video, so we typically put in the parts what we are talking rather than when we are quiet. If it’s not transformational (ad in we are just quiet and watching) it’s not fair use, and we can get a copyright claim, strike, channel taken down, or sued
@RelaxwithJC2 жыл бұрын
What exactly do you think a reaction video is? You want people to just sit there and watch the movie? No talking? You want her to react but not talk, that doens't even make sense lol.
@roguemerlin19692 жыл бұрын
She did do a reaction video and she has to do some commentary during it, or would you rather her pause the movie during key scenes? She missed none of the key scenes or dialog. If you don't like they way she does it, then start up your own channel and show us how you think it should be done.
