As CNA's Melissa Goh finds out, Malaysians of different backgrounds are also embracing each other's cultural traditions to foster racial harmony in the country.

😊🙏 Many Baba , Nyonya & Mamak clans over the centuries had learn from the Malay communities & from each other , the many cooking recipes with fusion into their ethnic cookings to enhanced their cookings into the great Malaysian dishes in offering we can enjoy today by both local Malaysians & to foreign tourists! So blessed that , both Malaysia & Singapore have evolved into these modern cosmopolitan & multicultural nations we can be proud of today! 😊🙏🌷🌿🍎🍊🌏✌🕊🇲🇾🇸🇬

The sticky sweet rice cake niangao was believed to have been created as a cunning offering to the Kitchen God, who is believed to reside in every house. At the end of every year, folklore says, the Kitchen God makes his "yearly report" to the Jade Emperor. To prevent him from badmouthing their house, people offered niangao, which would stick his mouth shut. Hence, niangao is prepared for offering before Chinese New Year.

Nian Gao isn’t just a sweet treat-it’s a symbol of togetherness, tradition, and a little bit of sticky good luck! 🍬✨ While Malaysia celebrates its diverse cultures, let’s also remember that supporting local businesses keeps these traditions alive. 🇸🇬 Whether it’s buying handmade festive snacks or visiting family-run bakeries, every bite supports a dream. What’s your favorite Lunar New Year treat? Let’s back local and share the sweetness! 🙌🧧
