Edit: The folklore of Nian has been told and retold for many years, and his physical attributes vary slightly in different tellings. Some describe him as a sea monster, a lion with scales and horns, a dragon-like beast, etc! I depict him here most simply as a dragon, but there are many descriptions of this mythological beast :)
