Yeeep. I began using more attacker than using support and well, it feels nice. Though usually I play it since... some dps are just dog water (and that says something because I literally can NOT aim). But yeah, it is easier on you when you get a change of pace.

3:30 I had an Ana today tilt super quickly and I was being SO positive to counteract it and we barely squeaked out a win. I genuinely think just being a mediator won us that game because I could visibly see our tank and one of our dps start making bad decisions as Ana kept complaining

I feel I'm getting in this situation where I get tilted quickly these days, even if I restrained myself and say things like "please die less" or "don't be too reckless" because I simply can't keep alive players who depend on healbots to survive. Can you shed some light into this positivity you have?
@alatielinara

@@X1erra I sometimes just say " I can't heal you in dangerous position, sorry" and heal or boost somebody else. If they tilt, I'll block. I think as a support I shoud let my teammates learn from their mistakes on their own, not enabling their mistakes and dying in the process. If they don't use cover they'll die. All of "do this" or abstact "don't be reckless" things can be tilting for your teammates. You can say something like "I like how aggressive you are but please don't run from my healing". It is not about good or bad for me, but effectiveness. Nobody's gonna listen demands from some random dude. Also, playing dps myself got me some perspective on the thinking process of the dps and helped me to understand what they need from me as a support. I still bronze-silver tho, but most of the time I'm having fun playing this game, even sometimes despite broken matchmaking)

@@X1erra idk why I didn’t get a notification for this I just don’t let myself tilt. I constantly remind myself that I’m not playing with pros. I cannot expect them to play like pros. I also can’t expect myself to play like a pro. If someone dies, saying “stop dying so much” isn’t helpful. Look at them and figure out *why* they’re dying so much. Are they doing something stupid over and over? Or is it that you or the other support aren’t actually helping them like you could? Is the other support not helping the tank like they’re supposed to? If I find myself healing more than the other support, especially one that is supposed to heal a lot, maybe you should focus more on helping your tank. Mercy’s new healing lets her take over the main healing role for the first time in years. Or maybe the other support is getting wrecked and you need to sit back with them more. Generally people want to win and they will try to. If you go in expecting the worst of them, it will absolutely be a self fulfilling prophecy. Also what exactly is it that’s tilting you? Is it toxicity in chat? Just mute that person at the *first* sign of trouble. That includes people trying to tell you how to play your own character. Do not let people bully you into making bad decisions. Trust that you know what you’re doing better than a DPS or tank player with less than an hour on Mercy. If they’re demanding a rez that you know isn’t going to work, don’t do it. Also PLEASE learn another hero. There are other mercy onetricks and if you can’t pick her, but you can only play her, you’re soft throwing by not being able to play anything else. Also just knowing when to get off Mercy is valuable. I’ve had so many games where I swap from Mercy to anyone else and the game immediately turns around. Zen and Lucio are super helpful to learn. I don’t really love playing either of them but sometimes you just need them. I had a game a few days ago where we were getting run over by a Kiriko/Lucio/Rein comp and until we mirrored it (me on Lucio), nothing was going right. We even won that game by mirroring despite me not being great at Lucio lol Zen is really helpful to deal with tanks. If there’s just a tank that’s winning every fight against your own, go zen and discord them and they’ll struggle just by you existing and keeping discord on them

@@alatielinaradude this advice is massive. i feel like "I love that you're so aggressive" is an important way to start any request for help because you're acknowledging they're trying to do something right. they should be aggressive! aggressive playing is good! so I think it's a really impactful way of showing your feedback is in good faith and you're not trying to flame them. I have consistently good results when I tell tank players "I love how aggressive you are, I just need X" because X is something specific and actionable and it isn't calling their whole game into question. specific, actionable communication is underrated but it's so important. the people who say "heal me" even when they are being perfectly nice drive me insane. who is "me"? where are you? are you even talking to me or are you talking to the other support? a dps friend of mine started saying "I need healing behind you" and it was a game changer lol it's such a tiny thing but he's helping me help him, and I think that's a huge part of being on a team, helping your team help you. it's a huge part of communication in general too lol so I don't care what rank you're in, your communication skills are God tier and I'm proud of you and I stan

What your videos taught me the most for now is to respect another support and let them heal. I think it is a bronze habit - trying to heal everyone to the maximum, but I am now trying to remember to leave some heal for other supports and just trusting them with it and not flying across the map just to heal what they could. I see how my understanding of the game and play changes due to that, slowly, but there's progression. Also your videos is always so inspiring to just play and enjoy it

I feel like sometimes it's just better to pretend you don't have a Rez ability. Sometimes it's just such an intense urge to "I have rez, so I have to use it," that you end up dying or a teamate ends up dying. You have like 10 seconds before the teammate responds to think about the rez. Do we need it? Should I risk it? Is it safe? Are my teammates going to be okay if I go for this rez?

I remember playing a match against you years ago back in Overwatch 1 in GM :) Back then I was at my peak - Comfortable with Ana, Mercy, Moira, Zen, Lucio.. Scrimming for 10 hours a day, haha. It was fun, but I had to tone it down a lot and eventually dropped Overwatch entirely, disbanding my scrim team too after being diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis, which totally crippled my hands. Been watching some of your videos in the hopes of slowly getting back into it again. :) I may be down to Diamond, and unable to play aim-based heroes like Ana for more than a couple games at a time, but I'm hoping to get back to my old rank again! Re-learning everything is complicated, and I honestly despise how difficult it is to climb with the new system (I've gone 5-1 in placements multiple times only to remain the same rank, it's frustrating!) but your videos make it easier - Thanks!

A huge tip I have is to STOP PLAYING ON LOSS STREAKS!!! I've learned that some days are just bad Overwatch days. If you're on a loss streak, more than likely you are just going to keep dropping and not recover it today. Stop playing and come back tomorrow. It's hard to follow this rule sometimes because you're just like "one more, I have to win the next one!" but you have to be disciplined and just stop. It'll save you from losing 100s of SR. I went from GM1 to GM5 this season by ignoring my rule and playing on loss streaks. I finally made it back to GM1 but it's really not worth playing on loss streaks.

Agreed! Recently hit GM for the first time and started on GM 4 and lost a lot which brought me down to GM 5, took a break, came back the next day with a clearer head and made it up to GM 3 which is where I’m currently at. For me personally though I feel like my issue that was leading me to make mistakes was how a lot of streamers are saying the ranking system is effed up and some people don’t deserve the rank they’re in so then I think “do I deserve it?” Like I definitely feel like I play well but then because of that ranking issue I’m like 😅

okay i just need to say that this video is exactly the kind of thing that changed my life with this game. the way you talk about your attitude and approach to the game. that literally has been the single greatest influence on my approach to the game. yeah, all of the technical advice and the minute details have been massive, but i honestly believe the reason i am a better player today is because you have taught me to trust my teammates, you have taught me to ALLOW myself to trust them. you mentioned how you would roll your eyes at a Sigma who was playing less than optimally instead of helping him and that's it!!! i feel so bad for all of the tanks and dps i let down because i was so invested in this idea that i was right and they were wrong so i wasnt going to help them out. obviously i have never touched GM so you know more about the game than i do, but letting myself trust that the dps player and tank player know more about their jobs than i do has let me support them so much more because i don't waste time second guessing them. there are so many moments where i know a risky play would have failed if i hadn't decided to wholeheartedly back my teammates up, and that is the most rewarding thing, knowing that i decided to trust them and my trust is why they succeeded. even smaller things like trusting my other support to know what they need to do instead of just trying to heal everyone myself (and stealing ult charge from them etc). idk man, your videos have been a part of my overwatch life, your original mercy guide was the first educational mercy content i ever watched and you have given me the ability to feel so much joy about this game because you have modeled the perfect support attitude. you're just really great and i love that we are both queer, i love that for us

Great video there niandra!! Funny thing is, i was 4200 consistently on ow1 as a Mercy onetrick, until i stopped playing because of school at the end of ow1 and picked up the game again when ow2 came out, but pretty slowly cause i couldnt't play a lot. I was stuck between masters 1/2 and masters5, and i was getting frustrated because i couldnt get the gm back, games were feeling rough and i felt pretty stuck. Until Season 3 where i decided to rethink completely my way of playing mercy, and ive slowly realized all those things that you've stated in that video, and made me relearn all those things ive forgotten about Mercy, as ive been playing much more on autopilot before and thinking less during my games. Thanks for sharing that personal anecdote. I *know* that we're all human, flawed, and will make mistakes, but it can be easy to forget, or to think that you're *particularly* flawed. It's reassuring to be reminded that, no, even the best players in the world are like you, and make mistakes or struggle with emotions. I think that inclination to put content creators on a pedestal can cut both ways, too, and sometimes make it feel to a viewer like you could never be that good. When in reality, just as you said: at the end of the day we're all just people who love this crazy game =3

I think rez should work a bit like genji's dash or morias healing. That is, a reset condition like an assisted kill, or a resource that goes up with the use of another type of play, like, if you blue beam a target long enough you gain resources in rez. It DOES feel really bad to hold rez for "the right moment" especially if that moment never comes or passes by when it looked like the wrong moment.

Also, I used to pick mercy cause i felt like you were doing your team a disservice by not having a rez, but came to realise that sometimes the pick potential of a kiriko headshot can outweigh rezzing at times when your team just cant seem to get kills can be much more beneficial. I had a big losing streak early in my season going 1-10 (Diamond 5) and started panicking, thinking I had to change how I play from the ground up but I felt like I would also throw away good habits misidentified as bad ones. In the end my matches evened out to 50% win rate and I still climbed to Diamond 3 without changing too much.

If I get on even about a 2-3 game loss streak, I take a break. It's too easy to carry any tilt into the next game. Keeping it at such a low number helps to reduce the hit to your rank too. I'll swap games, or even just go to quickplay for a bit (since after 2 losses I may not be too tilted to play).

I feel like this is the advice I have been looking for to help me get out of that same lose mentality... I went from gold 1 to silver 1 in the time span of less than a week just because of the current system. I feel like I have almost zero impact on all of my games even when I am absolutely popping off the enemy team just dedicates 2-3 people and swap to just bully me the rest of the match. This current state is insane and winning feels nearly impossible... I went from a 71% or win rate to 32%... Just kind of bs but I think your advice will help a lot. I just feel like the devs don't get how your team is literally only as strong as your weakest link... if you pit 2 bronzes together and the rest of the team is gold-diamond who ever has the better bronze player/diamond player just wins.

I understand why you feel this way. As someone who makes sure I have a main in all the character types, I main pharah the most, and this is for a good reason a niche character with a high skill floor helps preemptive preparation become extremely difficult when I force someone else out of place for their team. But when I play support, I main bap since he has all of the basic utilities that can cover all of the abilites that aren't able to be dealt with by any ana support characters AND he gets air mobility. I have yet to find a support who can cover as many things as him, so what he utilizes is overall game skill, which comes with experience. To reiterate, I'm not saying it's wrong to main mercy. I just think that maybe throwing bap into your support lineup wouldn't be a bad idea.

The 2K dmg boost/10 min target in low elo is sooo hard. I try to hold myself to it, but sometimes my dps don’t even do 2000 dmg/10 min

Thanks for the resurrect tip. I play a lot of competitive with my friends and one of them is playing 90% of the time as Genji. Every single time when he dies he yells "Res! Res! Res!" in the Discord call and he's so annoying lol. (We're all in approximately Gold)

As someone who picked up kiriko, yep you’re so right. Sometimes you get another mercy one trick who just doesn’t know how to play anyone else and it’s painful so I’ll just swap. My kiri winrate is so much better too it’s like 65% 😂

I tried to play mercy again waiting a few weeks, to see if maybe I could stomach the movement nerfs. I still can’t stand it… I really think I might have been pushed out of my favorite hero for good. I just want to fly around like an angel, but I can’t anymore. Even other mercy players were mocking me for being unable to adjust 😔

Thank you for pointing out that you will get yelled at in lower ranks if you play Mercy correctly and let your teammate die for a faster regroup. It's Mercy's job to help win the match, not make friends in game.

Hit a peak of GM4 playing about 60% Brig, 40% Lucio/Moira. My Mercy is at around 30% win rate after 5 hours. Something just isn't clicking.

Yeah I having trouble climbing from bronze. My mercy is decent and I can focus but matchmaking is so bad it makes me lose all confidence. I go from the a 2 yo 3 win streak then matchmaking just puts me in a shitty ass match where my team dont know shit. Not to mention the constant Rage quitting. I do my best and this shit holds me back the only time I can get silver a couple times and I still pulled in with shitty matchmaking lol

i feel like i can't have any impact as mercy :( i practice my movement, go for reasonable rezes, and i stay behind cover, and my deaths are not that high. i try to do some damage as well because i heard that that is a big factor in ranking up maybe around 1k damage a match trying to finish people off and kill easy targets like widow, but sometimes my team gets wiped so easily and im left there alone. im silver and my highest rank was probably gold 3. i try my best to have a positive attitude towards my teammates but i can only enable them and if they aren't doing well then i really can't carry them. not to say that im an excellent player, i am not good by any means, and i probably deserve the teammates i get, i just wish it was more consistent. sometimes my team gets destroyed and sometimes i can almost afk and we still win.

I know this is really old but in case anybody needs it, mercy has a feature where if you jump/ fall off of a ledge while not immediately using your jump to float, you gain an extra hop in the direction that you land. Example, come to ledge, jump off and go in to free fall, THEN press jump to float the rest of the way down. Your movement will end with a hop.

What I've learned playing Mercy: If your DPS suck, just play another hero, there's nothing Mercy can do if you Hanzo has 20% accuracy and your Ashe lands one scoped hit every new moon.

I'm new to OW overall. (halfway in kirko pass) and I'm a Mercy main immediately. I love her kit. Learning when a rez is actually needed vs wasted is hard but I've gotten it down mostly. My main issue lies in I can play my ass off and have a good win/loss and still barely rise rank or actually drop rank. I've even gotten myself down to less than 10 deaths a game. Usually less than 5 for the most part. So I'm doing plenty I feel. Boosting when needed. Healing when needed. Any tips? Or insight about why I can't gain when doing well ?

@@erinslps yea she's very reliant on her team being at least competent. Having just one person not up to the same level or ability can really hinder a team in OW I've noticed. The amount of times I've done literally nothing every fight I feel but the moment I die as mercy the rest of the team folds so obviously I was a huge part, is crazy to me as a new player.
