This must be one of the best Requiems ever. It is a real disovery for me and sends one's soul soaring even with the imperfect, slightly extended echo recording. Nevertheless, no words can describe the particular exquisite and heavenly beauty of Vox Luminis' interpretation. Zsuzsi Toth is absolutely divine, even above Lucy Crowe. There are two other versions on KZbin from highly regarded choirs but, for me, they cannot match this interpretation. Unfortunately, Vox Luminis have not issued a CD of the Jommelli 'Requiem' with Les Muffatis and the very same choir members. I urge them to do this as soon as possible: I cannot wait ! Finally, huge thanks and gratitude to Lionel Meunier for creating and directing Vox Luminis.

What do you consider the others to be? Is there a general neglect and underrating of the school perhaps?

The neapolitan school started with alessandro scarlatti .then came vinci leo ,porpora,pergolesi,jommelli,traetta,piccinni,anfossi, Demajo,guglielmi,sacchini, paisiello,cimerosa,spontini, Vincenzo bellini,mercadente.handel hasse gluck,j.c.bach haydn and even mozart were completely under the influence of the music that came out of the school of naples

Thank you. A very brief comment for the sound - unequal engistered due probably to the location of the microphones, a "flat" anti-echo which weakenes the clarity of the voices very often. I´m just making this comment without any minimal depreciation whatsoever - the performance is magnificent. Just to learn from experience of alive performances of such a jewels. Again, thank you, muito obrigado, best greetings from Portugal.
@jamesgibson21793 жыл бұрын
My comment about the microphones too, but the exquisite interpretation shines through. Right size and quality of choir and orchestra very well balanced. There is a brilliance about the performance.

" _Nietzsche_, Nachgelassene Fragmente, 1888, 25 [10].

Is this the requiem that Jomelli wrote in 1756 for the mother of Carl Eugen (Duke of Württemberg)? If so, it's very appropriate that it should have been performed in Stuttgart, given that Jomelli was resident there roughly 1753-63 (and then for several more years in nearby Ludwigsburg)!
@liomeunier10 жыл бұрын
Yes Donald, it's this requiem as far as I know and it was for sure performed in Stuttgart, this is why Muzikfest Festival invited us to perform it there. All best wishes

Why do the British and the Americans never care about spelling correctly foreign names, especially Italian names? Please, it's Jommelli, not Jomelli.

Thanks for the correction, but 'British and Americans never care about spelling correctly foreign names' is a bit strong as a generalisation, surely....? @@vaderetro264

John Trotman English speakers in truth struggle a little more with pronunciation than spelling, particularly those from the US where we have a whole range of previously unknown composers such as Scarladdi (from Idaly apparently), and Baydoven etc.
