Kanami wrote this song to challenge MIku's abilities, and man, did she nail it! Thanks for picking this song to react to. 👍

Go to the the acoustic version of this song and compare the differences. They’re both great

They picked up their lead vocalist very early. They decided that Miku's voice wasn't really forceful enough for the kind of music they wanted to make, and they decided they needed another guitar. Miku accommodated on both counts, becoming primarily their supporting vocalist, and learning to play guitar on the job. She gets overlooked a lot because she's not as strong of an instrumentalist as their other members, but whenever something has to give, Miku gives. The other members rest, and Miku hypes up the crowd at their shows. When the other members were too shy for interviews, she'd be the band's spokespigeon. But she generally gets one song where she's the lead on each album. It's important to note that they didn't pick up Saiki because Miku's a weak singer. Her voice just doesn't have the edge they wanted. But she's got a larger range than Saiki, and is more willing to do weird stuff with it. She's essential to how fun a lot of their music is. She can sing higher and lower harmonies with Saiki, and sometimes she'll do both in like one phrase. I think they did some of that in Forbidden Tale, which released recently. She also has a solo project, Cluppo, which is more pop-rock, less musically dense, but interesting in its own way.

History lesson, Po! For their first 3-4 years, they have many songs where Saiki and Miku trade verses on lead (see Freedom), and Miku (almost) always has a song per album in later years where she sings solo lead. Also, Miku won an idol competition in Tokyo before Band-Maid.

You've got to me a very, very good band to pull off Sayonakidori. And to do it as casual and with as much fun as the Maids have while playing it...? And then to write such a song... and to sound so good live...? Band-Maid is a very rare band indeed! We are lucky to be here, in there time, to experience these women. Thx Jaron!

💜💛❤(💙)💚 Now you have to do the acoustic version. If you want to know more about our MAIDs, check out the documentaries on Ohrenje's channel. One episode for each member (Miku has 3). In order: Saiki, Kanami, Akane, MISA and 3x Miku

This song is actually comparatively recent. It is off of Unseen World, which came out in 2021. This performance is about a year old. Other "Miku" songs are Beauty and the Beast, Time, Rock In Me, Big Dad, and most recently on the new album is Brightest Star (which also has some interesting time signature changes and key changes).

Saiki joined two months after the band's founding. Miku is the glue that holds the band together, through having the vision for the band, being the primary lyricist, handling the majority of the PR work, doing what the band needed even if it goes against individual ego -- deciding early on to add Saiki, learning guitar even though she didn't like it at first. Kanami does sing harmony at times. In the acoustic version which is played as a trio of Miku, Misa, and Akane, Akane sings harmony. Miku said when asked by her management what type of music she wanted to play in her new band, she answered Tokyo Jihen, which is Shhena Ringo's band. Saiki's voice is classic rock female lead -- think Pat Benatar, the Wilson sisters of Heart, and though people say Miku has a greater range Saiki's voice is stronger throughout her range. This song isn't that old. It's from Unseen World (2021).

This performance was from a very small venue, 350 normally 150 or so under Covid restrictions and with the cameras, where they had performed many times in their early years and came back there for a special show, to show their appreciation, just before they kicked off their 2022 US tour. It was streamed later for the fan club worldwide IIRC.

I saw them perform this live in 2022 during their US tour and Kanami, the lead guitarist, did sing some harmonies. I was surprised

Listen to the studio version of this song. The discrepancy in the timing of the drums is intentional and is part of ``this kind of rhythm pattern.'' Understand that the drums aren't losing their tightness due to live performance accidents (e.g. click delays causing them to fail to sync). On the other hand, how many drummers are there in the world who can maintain a groove with the timing that is just barely off? AKANE is definitely one of the most aggressive drummers in the world.

PRS just announced yesterday about Kanami’s Signature Model PRS 🔥❤️ First Japanese artist and only woman in their brand. There was show last weekend where Paul Reed himself gifted first one to Kanami. So happy for Kanami. She really deserves all this Glory and credit here in Western World ❤️ Kanami-Humble Genius ❤️ You can find video about Kanami and guitar in PRS KZbin-Channel 🤘 Edit: And it’s maybe allready sold out 😅

The vocal harmonies are most likely on a backing track. They definitely use backing tracks during their live okyujis. Mainly for intros, keyboards and some backing vocals. The drummer Akane plays to a click track and has rock solid timing while doing so. She once forgot to plug in her in-ear monitors on the last US tour and missed her cue to start. They stopped playing and she came to the front of the stage and apologized to the other members, then returned to her kit and showed everyone that she was plugging them in.

Sayonakidori is my favourite Miku "solo" track and in my top 5 Band-Maid tracks. Check out the Acoustic version. You will see Akane (Drums) singing backing vocals...... and she also has a nice voice.

I think the acoustic version is even better! It's just 3 of them and it's so transcendent. Miku can't lean on her teacher Kanami, or any backing tracks, and it has drummer Akane singing backing vocals. Super Rare! But it's just unbelievable how far Miku has come, not being able to play a note when she first formed the band. Amazing! But no, they've had Saiki for 10 years, though she was the last to join. If you want to know more about them Ohrenji has a documentary video for each of the girls and 3 for founder Miku.

KOBATO, a former Idol, is the founder of the band. They all wore identical maid outfits in the very beginning. SAIKI and MISA were never on board with the maid thing and their style soon diverged from the others’.

Prior to starting *BAND-MAID, Miku* worked in a maid cafe then later won a singing Competition, and was part of a 3 piece idol group called *Lil Cumin.* If you want a great song with a call and response between *Saiki* and *Miku* I would go back to 2015 and the song *Beauty and the Beast* 😉

This recording was done at a special tiny venue- Eggman? Tokyo, very recently although the song was about 5 years old at the time of recording. Miku (Red rose) only sang on her own for three shows when the band first started, before they recruited Saiki. Great- you know now that, say Miss (Bass), often accents Kanami's guitar line or the vocal melody line from Saiki. It's just genius composing by Kanami although Misa usually composes here own bass lines. I think that Kanami solo's through the whole song almost.

The best song the ladies have ever done where they go back and forth between the two vocalists is FREEZER, from their second album. There is no video, there is no official live. There is an amazing fan cover that I think best displays how good the interaction of the two vocalists is that you may lose just listening to the studio track, where it can be hard to differentiate who is singing.
@throwaway93897 күн бұрын
Thanks--great insights. The acoustic version is a great song as well, and I second the suggestion of FREEZER. They have so many great songs w/o a video and they get overlooked by reactors. My understanding is that all but Misa use a click track. Cheers.
