I praise this episode for its accurate portrayal of the frustrations and effects when trying to recover from a handicapping event. As a caretaker of a stroke victim, I've seen the desperation, emotional depression, and need to direct all that frustration at somebody that occur during this time. To anyone whose loved one has similar incidents, they need all the physical, medical, and psychological support that they can get. The longer a recovery takes, the more taxing it is on the mind.

Korra's had people trying to help her, but what she needs is some Toph love.
@DistinguishedGentleSkull3 жыл бұрын
She needs someone who can actually help her without holding back. Toph doesn't hold back especially verbally even if she's talking to a currently ptsd sensitive korra. Most people korra know hold her back or just pity her, thats why she needs toph. Toph knows what she's capable of.

The time when this episode / Book 4 was released, I assumed that the awareness for mental health and trauma was minimal than now. I remember that people criticised her mental struggles as a huge plot hole as they tried to reason that she’s physically strong yet losing fights, yet they really unaware that she was battling with her mind and trauma. I was a young teen back then so I was on a turmoil on liking or hating Korra due to the public reaction at the time. However, now in my mid 20’s.. I love this character. I finally understood her struggles and growth because I been there. I got in a tragic accident that I had to go through not only physical therapy but the biggest struggle was to actually overcome my fear and trauma to finally drive again and not having panic attacks in a vehicle, even when sitting in the passenger’s seat. That took me 3 years.. That event alone is just one of the struggles I went through in my life and it’s really empowering to see the progress.

@samuelvincent5573 жыл бұрын
I always thought that the reason Dark Korra had a manifestation that could hurt her harkened back to something that Iroh said. He mentioned that, in the Spirit world, your emotions could become real, is part of it. The Avatar is the bridge between worlds, and houses the most powerful light spirit within her. So I think that with her severe trauma her fear is now far more powerful that her rational mind. And one of Korra's fears is being too weak. With her fear being so powerful, I think her fear is now controlling the light spirit within her and fighting her. Or maybe Rava was using her fear to push and guide her to the swamp to get the help she needed.

I’ve seen this posted somewhere else before, but just gonna leave it here also In “Zuko Alone” Zuko is physically alone, he’s pushed everyone away or they pushed him away. In “Korra Alone” she has people around her, trying to help her (for most of the episode), but her loneliness is more mental. She feels alone rather than actually being isolated.

If I had to guess what the poison used on her was I would assume it’s mercury. And I do know that being exposed to/ingesting it can cause a lot of bad neurological disorders and nerve damage. That along with the trauma of the near death experience and the extra pressures she’s gone through could all be making things even harder.

This dark manifestation of Korra can attack her for a variety of reasons. Korra has already been traumatized three times. Perhaps this vision (if it is actually rava) wants to force Korra back into action. That's why the dark korra attacks her.

The way I explain that "hallucination" Korra: So, we know now that the Avatar is an amalgamation of Raava and Korra's own spirit; i believe, then, that Raava can now know what a human goes through physically and mentally thanks to that merging of souls. With that in mind, I think that when Korra was poisoned, for the first time Raava was forced to be traumatized too; i think that Raava learned just how scary it is to have a deteriorating physical body be more in control than she is during the Avatar state. So Korra when through TRIPLE the trauma: she was traumatized physically (with the poison torture), mentally (with Zaheer as the abuser), and spiritually which would leak into Raava. This PTSD that Korra is going through, is now something that Raava has to go through too; and since it is new to Raava, I think that Raava's subconscious (if she has any) is manifesting as a form of energy (energybending) that is corporeal and would then be visible to other spiritual bodies. I think that Korra's mistake when talking to the spirits in the Tree of Time, was that she didn't realize that their "help" would be very different from the help that people have been giving her. When the little spirit asked if they could help her she declinedand said, "...For years people have been trying to help me..." 🙄 umm, yeah... PEOPLE have been helping you, they were SPIRITS and they were trying to help Korra which would in turn help Raava. I think she was just too blocked to rationalize that the spirit's help would be different than the "help" she was getting from humans.
