Hi Nichola! I live in a 55+ community in the desert of Southern California. In looking for a project for our (mostly) ladies to do in our arts and crafts room I decided to share this with them. My was it a hit!!!! We just changed the tissue paper to frosted spray paint and we all just took off with it. Everyone was so absorbed and happy with the results. We did buy the fairy cuts from Gypsy Soul and they worked great! Thank you for sharing.

Awesome! Wonderful gift for my young granddaughters! Every time they visit I have a surprise for them. Buying "junk" items from store is very boring. Thanks so much for inspiring video. We can always make these together also. Of course I will use glue gun for safety.

I used a swirly-patterned tissue which gave it a Van Gogh effect. I also used little monster silhouettes for Halloween lanterns.

Ive been thinking about doing this for months. I shopped around for all the supplies I wanted to use. I had to wait several weeks for the fairy cut outs. Tonight I started and found out wow, this is harder than she makes it look. The tissue paper breaks very easily and it didn't lay as neatly for me. Mine has ripples in it due to brush strokes. Somehow I got the idea I needed to paint the glue on the jar and over the tissue paper. So, I'm waiting for them to dry now. Maybe it will be awesome and different. But the tutorial's surface is so gauzy and smooth. I'm kinda disappointed it wasn't as easy after all the $ I put into it. I don't know how hard it would be to start over with these same jars.
@PixieHillStudio
@PixieHillStudio 8 жыл бұрын
+CosmosFiddler it might take a little practice to get the hang of handling the tissue. Please do NOT spend loads of money on this project. Use cheap school glue to cover the jars and discount store gift bag tissue. (Heck, you can even use glass food jars from your recycle bin to save further money.) A few suggestions: Don't fuss with the paper too much. Many wrinkles will work themselves out as the glue/paper dries. Work quickly. The longer the paper is wet with glue, the weaker it becomes and more likely it is to tear. I know it sounds counter-intuitive, but you really do want to use cheap runny glue for the paper part. Thicker glue will pull at the paper and is more likely to cause it to tear. Save the good stuff for applying glitter and decorations. And if none of that works? Don't worry about it! Not every project works for everyone. (I can't knit to save my life.)
@CosmosFiddler
@CosmosFiddler 8 жыл бұрын
The glue dried and Im satisfied. The appearance is like crackled glass and the fairies are quite visible so I think it will be ok. I did use jars from peanut butter we ate over months and months because I like the idea of recycling, which drew me to this project in the first place. I was going to try to recycle gifted tissue paper in pastel colors but the first I used shredded under the brush. I finally got 6 jars done now. Tomorrow, glitter and decorating. I'll improvise on the rest!

I'm confused at the part that you say it's not permitted to make these commercially? I've been going to craft fairs for a long time (since I've been a kid in the late 80's) and have seen things similar to this being sold. My grandma had something similar to this years ago. It had a silhouette of an elephant but no glitter and she used regular tea lights.
@PixieHillStudio
@PixieHillStudio 8 жыл бұрын
+littlered13 thanks for asking. Sorry if this is a bit long. It simply means you can't make this exact project commercially (to make money) or get paid to teach this exact project to others. You can give them away, make them for fun, make as a group project but if you want to sell them you'll have to add your own dose of awesomeness. If you're representing yourself as a maker/crafter/artist, and you want to sell something similar, you should be adding your own style and altering the project, not selling knockoffs. There's no reason to copy this project exactly, there are 100's of years of creative inspiration to draw upon! Check out shadow puppetry (which is what this project was inspired by), magic lanterns, hand shadows, Victorian silhouettes. I absolutely, totally, 100% encourage people to add their own flair, to be inspired and to make their own version of this project... just don't sell exact replicas. Think of it this way, you wouldn't copy a book word for word. You'd be inspired and tell your own story. People don't need to copy, they need to create.

Beautiful craft! But don't like the wrinkles of the paper. Have you ever tried using frosted glass spray instead of covering the container with paper?
@PixieHillStudio
@PixieHillStudio 8 жыл бұрын
+DALMAR TORRES yes! A few things to consider: the spray is much more expensive than using tissue, more toxic, and takes longer, can drip, and requires several layers for decent coverage. To avoid the wrinkles using paper make sure to use thin, inexpensive, school glue, apply a liberal coating the jar, place the paper and smooth, then apply more glue on the outside. Applied neatly, and well saturated with glue, the paper should dry taut with no wrinkles.
