Like, I can get people not understanding vtubing, or not being in to it, but hating an entire group of people you don't know solely due to how they present themselves online to entertain others is crazy. Like, you can dislike individuals, for any number of reasons, but once you group up people, and profess hate for them for belonging to that group... Also, love the people in the chat that just felt they needed to be contrarians and said they hate Suisei... I bet they never watch anything of hers to begin with... because, not being interested in a youtuber is fine, but HATE? You don't even know her. Unless a youtuber does something heinous, why spend energy on hating someone you don't know? You'd have to be a real hateful person for something like that...

@@apolloisnotashirt If you're talking about the people in the chat, as I said, they probably weren't trolling, they just felt the need to be contrarians, the need to be different... even if the differing opinion from the norm is objectively wrong, because that is what contrarians do, take the contrary opinion for no other reason than it is contrary. They have no actual opinion. They have no actual personality of their own. It's just always "be different, be contrary" (yes I am trying to come across as harsh on these kinds of people, because I have met these kinds of people irl, and man are the infuriating)

Nicholas, I am glad you are interested in Suisei. Suisei was once unsuccessful in an audition for Hololive because she refused to give up her name and appearance as “Hoshimachi Suisei” and re-emerge with the identity the company had prepared for her. Suisei said that the reason she did not give up her identity as “Hoshimachi Suisei” was because she did not want to betray her fans who had supported her during her early years, but personally, I think it was because even if she left Hololive in the future, she could remain as “Hoshimachi Suisei. She has ambitions to become more popular as a virtual singer, and that is what I like about her.

I have to be honest-there are many highly skilled singers in Japan, yet many of them still haven’t been able to achieve their dreams. Suisei is undeniably talented, but she is also a prime example of someone who succeeded by seizing the right opportunities and timing. What I particularly want to highlight is that, until Hololive EN debuted, Hololive was honestly just a mid-level company in the VTuber industry. However, after EN's debut, Hololive leapt to the top-tier of companies in Japan. That being said, I would never disregard the efforts of the talents-they worked hard to get where they are now, and their success is undoubtedly built on that hard work. What’s fascinating and brutal about this industry is that no matter how amazing someone is, without luck and timing, they won’t gain popularity. Suisei, for example, is incredibly talented but had to endure hardships as an unknown girl struggling to make her dreams come true. As a fan, I intend to continue supporting her and her companions in the future.

The video is a good overview of what happened but I think the speculation about AZKi and Suisei is a bit off. AZKi and Suisei were both fed up and thinking about quitting the label at the time Suisei was moved to the Hololive branch. Suisei was moved first because she already had experience streaming. It wasn't about them trying to only support AZKi, it was more about Suisei's qualifications. AZKi had never really been a streamer, aside from some talking streams, just connecting with fans a bit, so she remained the only artist on that label, until they made a new label for releasing Hololive songs. AZKi ended up being transferred to Hololive, like Suisei, but not as a streamer. AZKi was a "vsinger" for Hololive for a while, instead of a "vtuber", since Hololive English had debuted the vsinger IRyS in a very similar capacity. Under a Hololive branch, but doing a different job than the other Hololive girls. Part of the company but not allowed to stream games with the other girls. AZKi had thought about quitting for a long time at this point, but she was given a shot at streaming games and other content like that, despite having very little experience in it, because they didn't want her to quit. She was received well enough to be taken off the "vsinger" roster, which prompted IRyS to say (I'm paraphrasing) "I guess I'm the only vsinger now" on a talking stream. IRyS had already joined some collab streams with the rest of Hololive EN, which was clearly a similar test by the company to see if she could join a regular branch like AZKi. It worked and they ended up just removing the whole "vsinger" concept and focusing on releasing a lot more music in all the standard Hololive branches. Eventually they connected AZKi and Suisei with the other separately debuted Japanese Hololive vtubers Sora, Miko and Roboco, and they've been called Hololive generation 0 since, as some of them had been around before Gen 1. IRyS was connected similarly to the 2nd generation of Hololive EN, since she originally debuted after EN gen 1. So now they all have a group as well... no more lone wolf vsinger bullshit, since that just made everyone lonely and sad.

Different things can be true at once. Just because Azki and Suisei were both fed up, doesn't necessarily mean their frustrations were identical. Before Suisei joined INNK Music, Azki was originally INNK Music's only talent (at least the only one that had debuted). This part is fact. Suisei wasn't getting any support from INNK Music in terms on the music side. This part is not speculation. This is Suisei's version of the story that she has been publicly mentioning on streams and on magazine interviews. This is not guaranteed to be 100% accurate/unbiased, but at least the company hasn't stepped in to modify or challenge Suisei's version of the story. This narrative is pretty much always part of the larger story about how she thought of quitting but with A-chan's help transferred to Hololive. We shouldn't dismiss it just because Azki was also thinking about quitting, or because Azki was facing other issues which Suisei also shared (such as unable to collab with the Hololive girls). Hindsight is 20/20. The strategy for INNK Music ultimately failed. Speculation: Perhaps INNK Music not doing well caused them to not have the resources to support Suisei after signing her on (all resources focused on Azki, and still failing). Perhaps in a parallel alternate universe where INNK Music were successful, it would have had more money/resources/humanpower, and perhaps Suisei wouldn't felt she had no support. Separate note on collab: Suisei has mentioned that she didn't felt like she could even (proactively) collab with Azki when Suisei was still at INNK Music, because at that time she felt she had too few subscribers/followers, literally a nobody, whereas she felt Azki was already established. This led to further isolation. I think on a company level it makes sense for the company to experiment with different brands/images/strategies. DEV_IS is a more recent attempt. However, Subaru (Hololive 2nd Gen) on a recent stream reflect that the ReGLOSS girls (effectively DEV_IS 1st gen) were assimilating to become too similar to the Hololive girls and unable to maintain DEV_IS's own image/culture, probably because ReGLOSS members collab too much with the Hololive girls. Now I definitely think it would suck and would be a bad idea if the company had disallowed DEV_IS girls from collab with Hololive girls. It would be interesting to see if DEV_IS can stay separate, or if eventually it just gets absorbed back into the main Hololive (either as 7th/8th gen, or become un-numbered generations kind of like Gamers)

@@pansola my point wasn't to dispute Suisei's issues with the label. The point was that they didn't support AZKi either. AZKi wasn't getting what Suisei wanted, they both were struggling and the company wasn't ready to give either of them the support they desperately needed. That was the point.

4:42 - Corporate Vtuber Agencies typically own the rights to the character the talent is using, so new hires usually get a brand new model and if they leave (graduate) or are fired, that character effectively dies. There are a few rare exceptions, Suisei being one of them. 12:30 - That branch is dead now, and rightfully so.

While a lot of the huge Vtubers are part of certain agencies like HoloLive and Vshojo, there are some pretty big independent Vtubers like ShyLily, Akuma Nihmune, and Neurosama/Vedal987. There's also big former agency Vtubers that have maintained (and even grown) their audiences after leaving agencies like Dokibird, Dooby3D, and Mint Fantome.

5:12 The agencies told her to leave the "Hoshimachi Suisei" character behind, because.. well, you know, companies goals are to make money, and thats why they want to make sure the characters they give to these streamers are s marketable and as profitable s possible . For example, the agency she is in now, Hololive. They have like a creative team that designs the characters for the new streamers. They make sure all the characters are very marketable, and that they all have a cohesive theme and lore (a generation of Mythical Creatures, a generation of gamers, a generation of bounty hunter and thieves, and so on). They have all that ready and THEN they make auditions to look for people that can play the part. Of course, at least Hololive wants to make sure there is enough chemestry and look for specific kinds and people that will probably get along. They also have bent the rules at times, with the case you just seen of Suisei keeping her character, or Fuwamoco a pair of identical Twins that share one channel, or Former Streamer Amelia Watson (now Dooby3D) who wasnt a mythical creature like her generation mates but was a detective.

I think Gigi Murin is the most out-of-pocket streamer in Hololive if you’re looking for one. She was also part of another agency (V4Mirai) before joining Hololive, so she has the rare case of 2 PL identities in Hololive.

There are a lot of independent vtubers and for example vshojo is a western company so you don't have a lot of the japanese bs like waiting for permision from devs/publishers to play games. The main benefits of joining a big company are you get provided a model and some other equipment, support and an existing fanbase as well as merch.

and in 2024, Suisei, Pekora and Gura had a collab with Los Angeles Dodgers... Search for Dodger's Hololive Night. same day as the birthday of Dodger's Shohei Ohtani, the MVP and GOAT of all times in baseball.

So you don't HAVE to be signed, to be successful, but 'm sure it certainly makes a lot of things more attainable than solo. Recent history has set the precedent that you don't have to stay signed and be successful. A lot of Vtuber today start off as "Indies" then join the agency as someone else, but of course the internet is quick to figure out who these "past lives" were. In 2024 at least 3 major agency Vtubers (Amelia Watson, Pomu Rainpuff, Selen....... something) left and their fans FOLLOWED them back to their Indie Vtuber (Doobie, Maid Mint, Doki Bird) boosting them almost instantly over a mil subs that they likely never would have gotten to without the success they built in the agency. Probably the biggest true advantage in the agencies is the 3D studios, but if you're an indepentently tech minded wizard like Ame (who really helped develope what Hololive EN is today) or Suisei that can figure out how to do that and has the money, success, and knowhow to make it happen that advantage gets smaller and smaller. I think what Suisei's biggest advantage is though (depending on how the contract looks) is actually that since she joined Hololive as her Indie self the IP may still belong to her so conceptually she is the only member who can just leave Hololive and STILL be Suisei.

10:00 yes you can. But you wont be the kind of vtuber that does 3D live shows and all those kind of things. Because that would just be way too expensive
