Nick Cave & Mick Harvey - The Mercy Seat [1990]

[Hi-Fi Mono] Nick Cave and his band-mate of the time, Mick Harvey, appear on USTV, backed by the house band for this performance of an early classic in the Bad Seeds' canon. The tempo seems "just a tad fast", but it comes off pretty well, considering the mix of musicians on this occasion.
Musicians for this appearance include Don Alias on percussion, Philippe Saisse on keyboards and Tom Barney on upright bass.
This program was the creative idea of the music producer, Hal Willner.

For me this is the best version of mercy seat. I like the doublebass, the second voice of MH on chorus, the keyboards and percussion. And the strong interpretation from NC made an acoustic version dark as a night in the woods

Nick is a great song writer with an average voice. But it is unforgivable that the town of his birth refuses to recognise his achievements with even the simplest plaque. Instead the main street is full of fake sheep. Shape up Warracknabeal in western Victoria.

I'm not sure if you mean just a flat performance or what I notice that he's quite off key on many of his songs. Don't get me wrong, I love Nick Cave, and his voice is great, so it's strange that he is off key so often.
